I remember enjoying this game when I first, briefly, played it years ago and it's still a delight! I found four jiggies in Mumbo's Mountain and learned the talon trot move before heading to Treasure Trove Cove. The Gruntidla's Lair version of the TTC track is one my favourites in all the games that I've played. I actually sourced it for my collection not long after hearing it :shifty:

I picked up a couple more jiggies in TTC and found Bottles to make use of the shock spring jump. I made a quick look around most of the cove and couldn't find more than three of the Jinjos so I warped back to Grunty's Lair. I'm going to try finding more jiggies and moves in MM when I next play.

The magic of the Rareware is still alive and holds up very well today

Reading this thread makes me want to play this all over again.

I won't join in, but I will try and break out the N64 or 360 and give this another go.

We really need a new BK for the next gen.

I feel that it does, too. There's something about the Rare games on the N64 that just seemed so right.

It's definitely worth a go, Albear! The 360 version is a little kinder than the N64 original; you don't lose the musical notes after exiting a scene.

Dude, it's coming... Yooka-Laylee :-).

I can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday morning, so I've also joined in the party.

I think Spiral Mountain goes largely unappreciated (or unnoticed) when it comes to game introductions. It teaches the basic controls in a controlled environment for newcomers, but is also entirely optional for veterans if they want to skip it. Of course, by sneakily putting the honeycombs as a reward for doing each tutorial then veteran players will still quickly lap the area and pick them all up. This means that they'll still relearn the controls if they haven't played in a while, without it feeling like they're being forced through a tutorial again.

Of course, if you decide to skip the tutorial then Bottles refuses to teach you the controls if you ask him later... which could be a bit of a problem if you're a genuinely new player who happened to press the wrong button. :slol:

Still, Spiral Mountain is ace. The music always puts me in the mood for adventure.

Got a hangover so I can't face something like bloodborne, so I'm back on this.

Suddenly enjoying rusty bucket bay for some reason despite hating it before. Going to 100% this level before moving on the the last level (which I haven't found yet).

God I love this type of game

Started this on Friday. It's just brilliant.

The chunky visuals look great, the music is wonderful, it consistently makes me laugh, and it's just a joy to play. I've actually ended up ignoring the 'structure' we discussed, because I woefully underestimated the time it takes to do each level. :slol:

I've fully completed Mumbo's Mountain and Treasure Trove Cove, and have done most of Freezeezy Peak, Bubblegloop Swamp. Just about to start Gobi's Valley.

HM, you have to:
> Approach the crab, but not too close
> It will then pinch and swipe its claws for a few seconds
> When it stops, you can nip in between the claws and do Kazooie's rat-a-tat (forward thrust) move to poke the crab in the eyes
> Repeat until the crab is taken down!

Cheers done. Did Clanker's Cavern as much as I could (only missed one piece, two of those jinjo) because that level, and mainly swimming, is gooseberry fool.

I've been annoying my family so much with all the silly music and sound effects, so stupid

I've 100% Mumbo's Mountain and Treasure Trove Cove in an hour. :slol: I know I played it alot so it wont be the same for everyone and the later levels do get bigger and take longer, specially if your trying to get all 100 notes. But the structure could still be 3 levels a week easily I think. More like this-

Week beginning 16th-17th May
Spiral Mountain
Mumbo's Mountain
Treasure Trove Cove
Clanker's Cavern

Week beginning 23rd-24th May
Bubblegloop Swamp
Freezeezy Peak
Gobi's Valley

Week beginning 30th-31st May
Mad Monster Mansion
Rusty Bucket Bay
Click Clock Wood
Gruntilda /Endgame

Apart from technical issues from emulating it its been pure fun so far. Its obviously aged in the places you would expect it to but other then that. :toot:

I always loved that if you used the beak buster on the crabs you killed them in one hit and got 2 health honey combs instead of one.

100% in all levels, all honeycombs and colour animal things found. One secret jiggy to get.

I think I'm going to run through both games around E3. With Rare's reveal at E3 and the Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter ending shortly after it seems like the perfect time to me. I also have a slightly unrealistic hope that Rare's reveal will be a Disney Infinity style sandbox for Rare's IPs, and that PlayTonic will collaborate and allow Yooka-Laylee in, in a future expansion. I don't even have an Xbox One, why am I hoping for this???

I am very jealous of everyone playing this now, but it's just not feasible for me. I have 2 chapters left of Final Fantasy Type 0 HD, and The Witcher 3 immediately after, which should last me to E3 (the main campaign at least).

I've got about six jiggies from each world and I think that I only need 5 more notes in Mumbo's Mountain. All of the Jinjos in Treasure Trove Cove have been rescued but some are still in need of help around MM. I couldn't work out how to get rid of the bull or big monkey but I did use Mumbo Jumbo's magic to do some insect platforming.

I'm going to move onto the next level now as I feel that I've seen all that I can of the first two worlds and I don't know what else to do. I know that there are still things for me to find, like the third move in MM, but hopefully I'll still be able to make a bit more progress.

I love the noise that Kazooie makes when she jumps during the talon trot

Clankers Cavern 100%! Would have taken me 30 mins but I had a complete brain freeze on one of the honeycombs. :fp:

Raising Clanker is awesome. :datass: I hope Yooka-Laylee will feature levels that are even more dynamic. I love this game so much.

Onto Bubblegloop Swamp next. I think that was probably me least fav level in the game so it will be interesting to see again now.

After completely forgetting about doing Clanker's Cavern, just 100%'d it. Comfortably the worst level in the game IMO - the controls are god-awful underwater, and everything's awkward as a result. It's also really small and most of the jiggies don't have any real challenge to them.

Anyway, up to Rusty Bucket Bay now, got about 3 jiggies so far.

Only now AT THE END OF THE GAME do I discover that R1 & L1 make banjo hard turn when swimming and flying :fp:

I have loads of issues with manoeuvring, it takes age for me to move it the turning etc. is really sluggish and lazy making it really hard to have any amount of precision to stuff under water.

I hope you guys have fun, but I completed this early last year on 360 again, after having finished them both on N64. Hope everyone has fun!

Bubblegoop Swamp 100% 8-)

Not as bad as I remembered and its certainly the first level to really start being a challenge. Use to hate the water. :dread: It's not aged very well visually though as the design isn't really that interesting. But Tiptup  and stealing the worms from right under the Crocs nose. 8-) Also being turned into the washing machine. I forgot that happens. The camera is really quite fiddly here I found, makes a few of the platforming parts trickier then they probably should be.

Found Cheato after. His theme is really underrated.
