Just quoting it for the new page, since it was a bit of a PSA!

Karl_ wrote:Dark Souls 3 security risk on PC - play offline or install a simple mod to protect yourself

There's a potential security exploit in the Dark Souls 3 multiplayer: https://old.reddit.com/r/darksouls3/comments/n1235k/potential_pc_security_exploit_spreading/

You can protect yourself by selecting "Play Offline" in the game's settings, or by running this very straightforward mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls3/mods/723

I guess this post is mostly aimed at The Watching Artist, who is doing a DS3 playthrough on PC.

I see people are ignoring the actual DS3 thread then

Thanks for the heads up Karl. I didnt even know I could go offline as I'm use to the option being on the title screen. As if being invaded wasnt enough. :dread: Will I now miss out on hints (not really hints are they  ) about the illusionary walls?

I was gonna stream tonight but maybe I'll skip or wait till aayl1 is done.

If you go offline, you only get developer hints (there are a few, but none about illusory walls).

The "sentinel" mod is apparently super easy to set up, and then you can stay online. I think you literally just unzip it where it tells you and run it.

Since the fix is so easy it makes you wonder why From haven't addressed it, but oh well.

Thanks to the encouragement of chat during my last playthrough and some good arguments from Karl about how I was viewing summons I ended up enjoying my jaunt through the first DLC over the weekend.

Going to try my had at the second DS3 DLC tonight on the GRcadeUK twitch channel from about 8!

I was really happy to see you having more fun with it! You seemed to have a lot of fun with Sister Friede despite her being pretty hard. I think co-op adds a really fun element to fights that would otherwise be tuned a bit too hard (and it can make the game really funny sometimes - like "Ligma" or that useless weeb guy! ).

This 100% isn't a criticism, just an observation, but I think sometimes people can get a bit boxed in by their preconceptions about how Dark Souls is "supposed" to play like. I personally won't play without at least 1. summoning as much as I can for bosses and 2. a ranged option (bows/magic) for exploring. For me personally, it just makes it more fun! Other people like the solo and melee only approach and that's fine too, but it's a choice they're making, not the one true way to play.

It's all prominent in the game - I think I said some of this in your chat, but a lot of quest rewards are NPC summons (sometimes you have to summon to advance sidequests!), and there are like at least seven whole weapon classes associated with ranged combat (four kinds of magic widgets, plus bows, greatbows, and crossbows). They wouldn't put it all in if they didn't want you to use it to help solve problems in the game.

In one of my Dark Souls 1 playthroughs I spent almost all of the game with rings to make me invisible and silent, so I could always get the drop on the normal mobs - it was actually pretty fun! It's an RPG as well as an action game, so you have a big toolbox to use and it's OK to play how you want to! :toot:

Yep you're completely right! I think just getting out of the head space if "this is how you play this game" really helped aid my enjoyment. And I did have fun with that boss fight thanks to summoning and just treating it more like a video-game, so thanks again for the encouragement!

Looking forward to what the last DLC has in store now!

Had a good time with the DS3 Boss Rush mod on stream just now. Managed to get most of the bosses so far first or second try, but the Pontiff took me a fair few goes!

Just had a pretty good second stream revisiting the boss rush mod. I was pretty surprised at how far I got in it. I had a really good run mostly doing bosses within the first few attempts (I beat Nameless King first try!) but in the end I absolutely could not do Sister Friede. :fp: I probably tried for over an hour! The mod doesn't allow you to do any of the things I'd usually do (summoning, grinding out more levels) so it's just down to whether you can grind out the fight or not. She's very hard!

I think I'll probably leave the mod there. I think I could probably start again and build specifically towards beating Friede but I'm not sure that's a good use of my limited gaming time. ;) I only really wanted to try it out and see if it was good, and fwiw it is really well put together if anyone wants to take on the challenge! Check it out here: https://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls3/comments/6r7cdw/ds3_boss_rush_mod_beta_release/

Not quite Dark Souls but close enough, I'll be starting a stream of Demon's Souls on PS5 later this afternoon. Hoping not to clash with Aaron!

This lady defeated Ornstein & Smough... *just using roll* .

Apparently there is a headset you can obtain that causes slight damage to enemies when you roll, but good grief!

Thanks to Doom Spoon for the heads up on this!

She lives for the Souls games, she's done all sorts of crazy things! I believe she's even completed a playthrough without taking any damage once!

She's also defeated certain bosses blindfolded too!

She's so passionate about these games it's almost inspiring!

Now she needs to do it using Samba De Amigo maracas!

Fair play though, that's an impressive achievement :D

There’s a full set of spiked armour Jawa you find it near the leader of the Chaos Servant covenant after defeated Dark Knight Kirk in several locations throughout the game.
