Congratulations Jawa on ditching another Zelda game

It’s entirely possible to progress a little way through the game not realising this like I did :fp:

If Jawa had anything like a functioning memory he would know this as he has also started BB (more then once I think)

Wait you’re supposed to die at the start of Bloodborne.

I literally punched that beast to the death. Granted it took me a while.*I lied.

Played some more this evening:

Started at Firelink Shrine and headed for the Catacombs once again, but again only got as far as the very start of that as the skeletons just kept on regenerating no matter how many times I put them down - what's the deal with those bony strawberry floaters? :x

Gave up and instead decided to try and conquer the Undead Asylum again, so worked my way up to the crow's nest and hopped a ride on that bad boy. Dealt with the torch-wieding welcoming party and the elite knight that had become hollow, but strawberry float me those Black Knights just stopped me in my tracks. I managed to defeat the one guarding the cell you start the game in, but the other one hanging around that long alley just had my number, must have tried 5 or 6 times to beat him but he just wouldn't take the hint, so I gave up.

Quite a frustrating end to the evening, and I know he's just waiting for me when I next load the game up, ready to whoop my ass again :x

Did you pick up the Peculiar Doll when revisiting your cell, Preezy? What it does is supposed to be a bit of a surprise - see the kind of vague item description - so I won't say anything else, but it's good to have!

I played for a couple of hours today too. I did a bit of clearing out of the Parish and upgrading, then Solaire ( ) and I smashed the Gargoyles. I'm ready to head to Lower Burg - my next objectives are to grab the Ring of Fap from Lautrec, smash the Capra Demon, and free Laurentius from the Depths.

The Scimitar seems to be shaping up OK at +5 and 20 Dex. The Leather Shield is just terrible though, really really awful. At least it has an alright parry I suppose!

You know in the last few weeks I was considering trying to find the time to finally do my DS3 stream. But all this Souls love has actually put me right off.

As for playing 1 again. Any twinge of temptation I ever have to do it is quickly crushed when I remember that only about a 3rd of it is any good with the second half being mostly strawberry floating shite.

I know you're exaggerating on purpose but I'm compelled to disagree...!

The second half isn't as good as the first half, but it has a lot of good bits and I really don't think it's shite overall. Here's a list of the main areas in Dark Souls Remastered (spoilers obviously), roughly in order:

Undead Burg / Taurus Demon
Undead Parish / Bell Gargoyles
Darkroot Garden / Moonlight Butterfly
Lower Burg / Capra Demon
Undead Asylum / Stray Demon
Depths / Gaping Dragon
Blighttown / Quelaag
Sen's Fortress / Iron Golem
Anor Londo / Ornstein and Smough, Gwyndolin
Painted World of Ariamis / Priscilla
--- second half ---
Demon Ruins / Ceaseless Discharge, Demon Firesage, Centipede Demon
Lost Izalith / Bed of Chaos
Catacombs / Pinwheel
Tomb of Giants / Gravelord Nito
Duke's Archives / Seath
Darkroot Wood / Sif
New Londo / Four Kings
Oolacile Sanctuary / Sanctuary Guardian
Royal Wood / Artorias, Kalameet
Oolacile Township / Manus
Kiln of the First Flame / Gwyn

All of the first half is good, for sure, but I think most of the second half is good too. I guess the first four areas I listed are noticeably weaker than the others. You can make Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith a lot easier on yourself by completing the Chaos Servant covenant. The Catacombs I would argue is actually a pretty good and fun area, as long as you know to take a Divine weapon (preferably a mace or hammer!) for the skeletons. Tomb of Giants is absolutely very janky (dat giant skeleton archer :datass: ) and I get the frustration there, but if you wear a Sunlight Maggot it's a lot easier to navigate. These areas are worse, definitely, even if you go in with a plan - but if you prepare for them I really don't think they're terrible.

And then once you're past them the game ends on a strong note, right? Duke's Archives, the Sif fight, New Londo, the DLC areas - they're all good!

Yeah I grabbed that, didn't check it out the time but I will do when I'm next on, hopefully some time today as even though last night was an exercise in Black Knight frustration I've definitely got the DS itch again

A lot of those second half areas i ended up doing before anor londo iirc, because I did things as I just found or saw them. Definitely did painted world before.

For sure, it's a really nonlinear game. The Painted World is in Anor Londo and it just depends when/if you find it for instance, could be before O&S, could be near the end of the game or never. You can do the Catacombs and Sif and bits of Demon Ruins quite comfortably before O&S too.

I'd say if you explore a lot and get as far as you can before, O&S is actually two thirds of the way through, rather than around half.

And then that last third has two new areas that are dodgy, three that are fine, and the DLC which is great.

The 2/3rds thing is definitely how I remember it being after Anor Londo.

Yeah I explored the hell out of the earlier areas so had done lots before Anor. I do think the game dips in the last third but when the earlier areas are so damn good there was only one way to go! At worst the later areas are still enjoyable enough and I don't think it spoils the game

Just reinforced my battle axe to +2 and obtained the Ring of Favour and Protection so next time I play I'll be ready to attempt the gargoyles at the first bell.

Great start, Zilnad - I will add you onto the Play Log tonight! Gargoyles :dread: ...

I did my second Souls stream this afternoon and it was a lot of fun; sometimes painful, but fun! Took down the Taurus Demon 8-) . Ended the session by getting duffed up by two knights and so revenge will be gained next session!
