Inspired by this thread I tried to get into Dark Souls again last night, for what I think is the fourth time. :slol:

It's just not happening. I like the world, the combat, and the exploration, but I hate the bonfires, the resetting of enemies, and having to repeat bits you've already done when you die. It just ends up feeling like a chore rather than being fun. The lore does nothing for me either.

I really want to like it, but I just can't be arsed with it. :lol:

have you tried Bloodborne or Sekiro? they feel very fresh to me and the change enough of the formula that you may like them
i actually cant get on with DS2 or DS3 because they feel like a rehash of DS1 but i LOVE BB and Sekiro

I am only now enjoying the game after 4 or so tries. I think streaming is a big part of it though.

It's not even about the difficulty, it's more constantly having to re-do areas I've already done. If they got rid of that, and some of the other bullshit, it would be a much better game (for me at least).

Again, I'd want to like Bloodborne and Sekiro, because I love the look of them, but I'm not willing to buy them and take the risk of just getting pissed off again. Maybe if there were demos available that might convince me, but nobody bothers with those these days, so I'll probably skip them (unless the progression/checkpoint/enemy reset stuff is different in those?).

thats fair enough and no Sekiro/BB are not different in that respect. i think if you really enjoy the mechanics of the games the repeated sections often are just fun in themselves. when i find myself just wanting to 'progress' in terms of story i then get frustrated if a die whereas if im just in the mood to enjoy playing the game i find it much more enjoyable just playing.

I’ve had a break from DS this week and played Mario Galaxy instead.

I’ve got all four souls for the lord vessel now. But should I do the DLC before I take on the last boss?

Definitely. You won't be able to do it after finishing the game, so now's the ideal time really.

The DLC is very good imo - have fun!
