Congratulations Lotus, you got gud! It's been a pleasure to join you on your journey and read about your progress. Are you considering playing any of the other games in the series?

Big congrats Lotus, enjoyed reading about your journey! It's cool to hear you had fun with it.

If you ever get the urge to play more, there's a really good DLC story for DS1. (You'll have to play a bit of NG+ to get there, but don't be put off by doing the opening again - you keep your levels and gear so you'll blast through it in no time now!) Beyond that all the other Souls games are great too, so there's lots more to see.

Thanks guys, it's been fun :toot:

I definitely want to play the others in the series - I bought the remastered collection on PS4, as well as Bloodborne, and Sekiro :slol:

I might tackle the DLC, I'll see how I feel. Looks like it's £10. I could always tackle the remastered version at a later date, which I think has it included.

Nicely done Lotus.

It's a great feeling when you finish it for the first time.

I remember when I got to Gwyn and I just couldn't seem to get any damage done on him.
I basically had to teach myself how to parry just for that last fight as I'd never really needed it till then. Took a good few attempts but when I finally pulled it off it was glorious.

I've not really enjoyed the other games as much as the first one to be honest . They're all great games, but DS1 was the highlight for me, though I think Elden Ring is going to beat it.

I finished DS1 not that long ago really and I have tried BB, DsS, DS3 and just couldn't get into them as much as DS, or more accurately just fell off them as i didnt enjoy them as much as DS, but Elden Ring had me by the balls.

You know, I am kinda thinking that I could start a fresh run of that!

... . You guys! I do tend to restart a game if I've been away from it for a while as I usually forget the controls and how the game works.

Matt put a thought in my mind that, yeah, playing Souls was good fun and I could try it again. Thing is, I'm thinking that for about fifteen games at the moment and not actually playing any of 'em. For now, it's a maybe.

I have finally started playing Dark Souls 2, I’ve just done the Looking Glass Knight, and I have to say, I don’t understand why the game is so derided. It’s fantastic.

I get the criticism of the world not being interconnected, like DS1, but they’ve only really attempted that type of design in that game and that game alone. DeS didn’t have it and neither does BB or ER.

So far, I’ve found the bosses more memorable than ER, even though there are probably a few too many of them.

My only real complaint is the gangs of enemies which don’t really suit the combat of the game as well as they could.

2 is great!

It's just not quite as well put together as some of the other games in the Soulsborne catalogue. Main issue for me personally is it doesn't have that many "wow" boss moments, they seems like mini-bosses and are often quite samey, but it's still a lot of fun

Are you playing the original release or the "Scholar of the First Sin" version? The latter tweaked a few things (particularly around mobs I believe) which smoothed off some of the rough edges.

I really should play 2 again. It's the only one I haven't played multiple times. Might download it on the Deck tonight.

2 is a brilliant game.

You're probably not quite there yet, but (late game area name) Dragon Aerie is one of the most visually impressive zones in all Dark Souls.

If you like the base game, you'll love the DLC. Crown of the Sunken King in particular is just fantastic -- easily up there with Artorias of the Abyss from the first game and The Ringed City from the third.

(Souls DLCs are always so good. So excited for Shadow of the Erdtree!)

I’m playing the First Sin one, I think that’s the one where they made the mobs worse, isn’t it?

Yeah, I think they went for quantity rather than quality when it came to the bosses in ds2. In the original it felt like a real event when you came to a boss, whereas here it’s much more common place.

I really enjoy some of the different settings in ds2. It feels much more like an epic journey. Whereas the original felt more contained.

Yes, I’ve not got to the dlc yet. I’ve heard very very good things, although I also hear it’s incredibly difficult. Should I do it before the end of the main game or wait until after?

I suppose I would do the DLC just before the final boss, because I guess I kind of like the ending to be the last thing I see, if that makes sense?

But you can do the DLC after the final boss if you want. It doesn't force you to do NG+ until you're ready.

I’ve done everything in Dark Souls 2. Just one area to go, the Frigid Outskirts … I cannot comprehend what was going on in their minds when they made this area. It’s just horrific.

Finally conquered the Frigid Outskirts, easily the lowlight of the game for me and at the end of it, a boss that wasn’t particularly enjoyable either.

Does anyone have any tips for farming sunlight medals?

Congrats on finishing off DS2! The invisible unicorns really suck, but by overcoming them - a testament to your passion and ingenuity, showing no obstacle is insurmountable - you have joined the illustrious elite of Dark Souls 2 enjoyers.

Make sure you do Darklurker too if you haven't already! :toot:

This was the last thing I had to do to get the remaining achievement in the game, and it was awful. I'll post the advice I got below (I picked option 3 as I don't play online much)

Sunlight Spear - Awarded for reaching rank 3 in the Heirs of the Sun covenant. The altar is in Harvest Valley. No two ways about it, it's gotta be done. 30 Sunlight Medals must be offered. There are three ways to get these.
1. Summon other Sunbros to help you kill a boss or kill enough enemies, and you will get one medal for each member present. Their summon signs are more bright yellow than others.
2. Join others as a Sunbro, and you will also get a medal when you beat a boss or kill enough enemies. I recommend placing your sign before the double Dragonrider fight in Drangleic Castle.
3. Farm them offline. This is not fun, but if you really want to, it can be done. You'll need a lot of Bonfire Ascetics, and preferably Item Discovery+ gear, like the Jester Hat, Symbol of Avarice, Prisoner Tatters and the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring (get the +2 version from killing Belfry Gargoyles on NG+). The enemies to farm are Falconers, and there are three spots to do it, although only one is good. The first is Things Betwixed on NG+ onwards, as four Falconers always spawn right at the start. Downside is that the run from the bonfire is quite long. The second is the Royal Campsite at the start of Brightstone Cove Tseldora. Plenty of Falconers here, but you'll have to kill the Congregation every time you want to use an ascetic. The third and best option is to use the bonfire at the crossroads in the Shaded Woods. Heading left here (towards the castle) you'll encounter five Falconers every time. Two just outside the door and three past the tower. This bonfire can be asceticed (?) without killing a boss, as long as you've killed Najka on the current playthrough. The drop rate is terrible even with maxed item discovery, so prepare to spend hours doing this if you choose this method.

site, please could I be included in your special group of DS 2 enjoyers? I've not actually tackled it yet by I did watch Matt/TWA's complete playthrough (I think he was going for a no-hit run but he did get hit loads ;-) ) and I very much enjoyed it. I just remember multiple enemy attacks and plenty of dragons!
