I played halfway through NG++ to get the third Sif Soul for the last weapon achievement. I think I've had enough Dark Souls for now.

Ah of course, it's an impressive achievement I think you've earned a Souls break!

I only just found out, but today was actually the 10th anniversary of the original release of Dark Souls. :toot:

Well done on the soul level 1 run Karl! Been fun to see you stream a few variant runs!

 If I owned one!

I might have to leave DS1 for a bit - I can't really think of anything else interesting to show right now. I guess I could do a proper speedrun and try out more glitches, but I should probs just go back to DS2... :shifty:

Deprived run, you can’t change gear and have to use the Deprived starter stuff.

Sorcery-only speedrun - 2:13:34.

WR is about half an hour  but I enjoyed it and it was much better than my previous PB!

Even 2 hours and change is crazy fast. I have no idea how anyone learns the game enough to do that. I think I know the world inside out and it still took me 20+ hours to beat it.

Thanks!

If you're interested, here are some glitches I used to speed up the run:

This one bugs out the menu so you can use hundreds of a soul item instead of just one:

This one lets you load into the "YOU DIED" camera mode without actually dying, by parrying in a particular spot. I couldn't fit the whole skip into a 60 second clip but the point is that the fortress gate doesn't load in this mode so you can just walk right in. (It messes up the directionality of your controls so I kept walking into walls! )

This one tricks a Manserpent into smashing the wall you're supposed to hit with a boulder later on:

And there were a few moments like this, where you jump off things you arguably aren't really supposed to. This one is probably the hardest, to skip being imprisoned in Duke's Archives:

I knew this one! The others are very cool though, there's lots of glitchy stuff in Dark Souls. It's cool that people dedicate so much time to one game.

New PB: 1 hour 33 mins ish!

Pleased with that! It was a good run overall, but I had a nightmare on a couple of bits, so I think sub 90 mins is possible with more practice!

That's awesome site, well done! :)

Forgot to mention until this post was bumped, but my lad (age 11) finished this last week. I had let him play the game after watching me for a bit, and expected him to give up early on into the game. But he just seemed to get really into it. Just a little guidance from me on where to go, he did every boss (including the DLC) himself.

Proud dad moment! :toot:

Wow! :o . That's great play, site - I can't imagine how you got through the game so quickly!

Your lad did so well, mhtl! Bravo, mhtl Junior :toot: .

Nice time Karl! I spotted someone was streaming Souls on the GR channel last night but wasn't able to watch along.

I dipped my toes back into the waters of Dark Souls II last night, going to try and get the momentum going again for my playthrough of that and see if I can make it to the end. Spent most of last night just trying to remember where I was!

Whoop! It's top to hear that you're back into Souls, Jen - and, as site and TWA often say, the best one in the series, too :toot: .

I enjoyed what I played of it a while back so I'm definitely looking forward to jumping back in! :toot:

Had another session on DS2 last night, I've finally mapped the spaces back out again to the point where I can remember where I have and haven't been before so I can get on with trying to make some progress!

On which note the design of the spaces is much more, to coin a phrase, "dead endy" than I think I've seen in any other Soulslike game. So many times you'll think you're making progress on a fruitful branch of an area and it turns out to be a road to nowhere and you have to go back on yourself. There isn't that same elegant layering and interconnecting of spaces that you get in DS1 which leaves exploration occasionally feeling a little bit more frustrating than it was in that game.

That said I'm still very much enjoying the experience, it's following some similar trends and
patterns to the first game but offering some interesting new riffs on them which is cool.

Highlight of last nights session was taking down The Last Giant first try. Not sure if this guy is supposed to be more formidable, or whether I've perhaps come to him later than expected, but he didn't exactly put up much of a fight! :datass:

The Last Giant is supposed to be the first boss you fight in DS2. I didn't even realise it was possible for it not to be.
