Welcome to the party etc. :toot:

I'm distracted by Halo and Ratchet at the moment but will get back to my own DS2 play through soon!

Will stream it if anyone fancies seeing my failures.

Ooh! A newcomer to Souls II! This is gonna be fun for us :toot: .

I've not actually tackled the game myself, aayl, but I have watched a few others and they all really enjoyed it.

I'm not hating it as much as I thought I would. Done the first 4 bosses I think. Coincidentally there's a community event on right now so there's loads of people to coop with!

(continuing with it right now, too)

Co-op :dread:

Glad you're enjoying it, I've not got to the end yet and sure it's not without its faults but it's definitely a better game than some people give it credit for!

I have a copy of Dark Souls Trilogy (PS4) on the way. Right now I'm uncertain as to whether I'm gonna be shouting "Yay!" or crying into my pillow; not because of the games themselves but the packaging.

The game discs themselves are gonna be all good; three discs with all the DLC included, so that's great.

The packaging, though... well, it's a gamble. It comes with a cardboard sleeve containing three game cases. However, I dunno if my version will be the one with just the PEGI rating on each of the covers or the absolutely horrendous version that has rating badges from multiple European countries on each cover; they look hilariously bad!

Before ordering I looked at YouTube vids and there were some of each type. Guess I'll find out tomorrow what my set will be like.

Yes the annual Jawa Souls attempt! Colour me IN!

I'm enjoying DS2 more than I thought I would. Finding the ring that limits your health loss has been helpful, as as having a supportive stream chat for when I get a bit frustrated (basically Karl telling me where to go haha).

Made some good progress in my last session and got down to the spidery bit. Have enjoyed dual wielding swords (but may go back to single wielding soon).

Spoilers about one of the bosses in Old Iron King (DS2 DLC #2)...

I have been playing the DS2 DLC, staying ahead of Aaron, because I wanted to see it for myself before the streams (and also to be able to give little hints and so on  ). Realistically I was never going to get around to streaming the DLC so I hope Pedz doesn't feel too robbed. :shifty:

Anyway, I got through Iron Passage and then killed Blue Smelter Demon first try! This is my first - and I think will probably be the only - big "first try!" of late-game DS2 so I'm proud of it! :toot:

I didn't have any special strat, I just bonked him with my Malformed Shell +5 until he died. I prefer to play with NPC summons but I didn't clock that they were at the bonfire, rather than by the fog gate, so I had to face him solo.

I got extremely lucky I think! Was sweating by the end, and I don't think I could do it again! (Hi no context.)

I love you too Pedz!

I also did (spoilers for Sunken King i.e. DLC #1)...
...Gank Squad first try too, under similar circumstances (didn't find the summons, etc.).

That fight wasn't as intense though, at least with a very defensive playstyle - it just needed a lot of patience and careful kiting. I can see it being really difficult for characters set up differently, but if you have a greatshield and you're willing to spend a lot of time running around the arena to get good cover, it's not too bad imo. Just takes a long time!

As for the other bosses so far, I thought Elana was quite tricky, and Sinh took me quite a few goes with the NPC paladin lady helping. Cool fights though!

Wait, you did the whole of Iron Passage on your first attempt? You have no idea how many goes that took me.

At the risk of turning this into my little DS2 DLC blog, I've just killed (Spoilers: Old Iron King / DLC #2)...

Fume Knight. What a fight! Thought it was brilliant. Took me quite a few goes - probably around a dozen or so. Very difficult but it was totally fair IMO.

I felt like my greatshield wasn't bringing much utility to phase two, so I powerstanced two greathammers for the damage and reach. I'm not a brilliant dodge-roller so I wanted to make the fight as short as possible...! Really felt like I made good progress understanding his moveset and got the KO by doing a little bit better each time, so that was great.

Alonne has also left the building. I used both NPC summons and he got so much extra health it felt like an MMORPG boss.  However my "teammates" (cannon fodder) were very distracting which is just what I like to work with! And he seems pretty weak to greatshields, so I was able to just hold block when I drew aggro. Still took a couple of goes!

That's the Old Iron King DLC finished. :toot:

So I finally clicked with a soulsborne. I tried blood borne and couldn’t get on with it. I played demons souls on ps3 and hated it. Tried a few rip offs with no joy. Nioh came closest as I got past the first boss.

Played fallen order but got frustrated and dropped the difficulty.

I’d always wanted to get into them as on paper they are my cup of tea. Got dark souls remastered cheap and gave it a go. 1 hour in and I have up. Skeletons in graveyard. Then I found a vid online “7 reasons people give up on dark souls” and realised going left to graveyard was my mistake. Well I went right instead. 50hrs later I’m loving it and just reached bed of chaos :dread:

Cam back to read your spoilers now I've done it myself - very well done on doing BSD (and gank squad) first time! As I mentioned on stream Gank Squad wasn't too bad, just gotta do a lot of running around and be patient (which I'm not great at). BSD I found much harder so resorted to summoning help (so even more impressive you did it first time solo!).

Looking forward to seeing where the rest of this DLC goes.
