I do like how in Souls you can try out various paths... not necessarily easier ones, but different ones!

It sounds like you're making good progress. I played the opening few hours - up to Cleric Beast - and loved the dark, gothic designs and the atmosphere. I found the bit where you reach
the big bonfire on the street to be really tough; so many enemies to to tackle and it was tricky to get the attention of just one or two of them without alerting others. The movement and fighting pace is faster than Souls which takes a little getting used to. I hope that you grow to enjoy it!
