Even as a relative Souls noob, I think an excellent aspect about the game is the different paths and approaches that can be taken; add in the fact that the enemies don't always do what you expect and you have a potent mix that creates opportunities for folk to try different things.

Seath is dead. Just making my way through Tomb Of Giants now to kill Nito before mop up and DLC. This area is pure ass.

Completed the main game a couple of days ago. Gwyn was pretty easy with magic. You need 50 Intelligence for Dragon’s Breath but it’s a really poor spell, it takes too long to cast and doesn’t really do great damage.

Really enjoyed playing as a sorcerer though. Gave me a fresh appreciation of the game. I started NG+ and I’ve blasted through it, already at Sen’s Fortress after only a couple of hours. May try out some Pyromancy in the second half of the game.

Many congrats Billbones! :toot: Is NG+ much harder so far? I've never actually tried NG+.

I've installed some graphical mods for the game as a bit of a change of pace. You can get a slight but noticeable upgrade by installing a load of texture packs, and then there's a postprocessing hack for the game which changes the lighting and colour profile on top of that. It's never going to look photorealistic (and I don't think I would want it to) but it ends up looking a bit more like Dark Souls 2 which is kind of cool. I realise this post is a bit of a tease without any screenshots so I will try to take a few next time I play and post them!

Thank you :toot:

TBH NG+ has been an absolute breeze thus far, apart from the Capra Demon, who took about 5 or 6 goes. I’ve done everything else first time and I’ve just got to Sen.

I took the back way to Blighttown and it was an absolute revelation, so much easier.

I’ve never played DS2 but I think I’m going to start it this week.

Congrats on reaching the end stage, mhtl, and it seems that you have enjoyed the journey!

"gg", Billbones! It certainly seems that being a sorcerer was a fresh way to experience the game.

People have varied views about the second title and it's gonna be interesting to hear your take on it, 'bones.

This sounds really cool, site, and it sure would be great to see a few screens!

Thanks jawa, I have indeed enjoyed playing through the game again. If nothing else it's made me more excited for Elden Ring. I should probably play through Sekiro at some points as well.

I finished Nito off last night, and decided to go for Painted World next. I've printed off a little checklist for NG+ so I can get all the weapons and sorcieries etc, games not done until I have all those achievements haha.

I played a few more hours of DS1 today on stream. Today the challenge was to see how far I could get without levelling up (i.e. at character level 1 as a Pyromancer). That was the only restriction, so I could still summon NPCs, enhance my gear, buy spells, and so on.

I beat the Capra Demon, the Bell Gargoyles, Quelaag, and the Ceaseless Discharge, in that order. I didn't manage to cheese Ceaseless so I had to give him a fair fight - that took a while!

Spent the last bit of the session doing a bit of farming to level up gear for Sen's Fortress. I have two Battle Axes - I got them up to Battle Axe +9 (which I plan to make Lightning) and Fire Battle Axe +5. It just occurred to me that I should try to get Dusk's Crown too, and also the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring, so there are a couple little detours before I'll feel good about heading towards Anor Londo. Hopefully getting those items won't pose any big problems...!

Probs won't be able to play again for a while now though :(

Nice work!

I've always been tempted by the idea of doing some form of challenge run in Dark Souls, there seem to be some fun options out there to spice up the experience!

I've worked my way through the Painted World, so decided to do the DLC before I wrap up and move onto NG+. This is my first playthrough of it, so it is all new to me. Which is a weird and unsettling feeling

Sanctuary Guardian was a shock, because apparently I knew about the other bosses but not this one. The actual fight wasn't too bad, took me a couple of attempts. The actual area seems pretty cool, those big stone enemies are quite tough but the main scarecrow guys are easily bested.

Knight Artorias was a typical Dark Souls boss. Almost took him down on the first attempt, wondered what all the fuss was about and then was thrashed the next 7 or 8 attempts. Great fight though, reminded me of the Sir Alonne fight from DS2.

Worked my way through the next area, and stopped at the bonfire before the Chasm Of The Abyss. I think there are two bosses left, and I'm aware they're quite tough. So that should be fun. :)

Artorias is a really great fight. The level you've just explored is very good too IMO. I think the DLC is one of the best bits of the game, glad you decided to check it out & cool to hear you're enjoying it!

I never had much problem with Manus, felt like a comfortable fight to win through steady cautious play. Kalameet was bloody annoying though, I never settled on a decent set of tactics for that fight!

I thought I had explored everywhere, but obviously not. I saw the dragon fly by across the bridge but haven't discovered the fight yet.

Gonna have to use a guide to find the Kalameet fight though, I've looked flippin everywhere.
