Loving my Demon's Souls (PS3) run. I'm still in the beginning (about level 30) but it's fantastic so far!
It runs very well on RPCS3 after some minor tweaking. RPCS3 seems like a great emulator and the game looks great at 1080p60. If you're going to try emulating it then it's worth checking out its page on Nexus Mods, if only for the lens flare and grey outline fixes.
So far I've done 1-2, 2-1, 3-1, and 4-1. I'm primarily playing a magic and bow character - just bought the Soul Ray spell which I'm looking forward to trying out. There's a lot of variety in enemy placement, so sometimes in twisty corridors I've had to get the sword and shield out too!
I like the overall structure of the world and level design a lot. Although it's not interconnected like DS1, it has more immediate nonlinearity than DS3. Once you're in a level, a one-bonfire many-shortcuts structure kicks in which feels good to explore. (I do think 4-1's shortcut is a bit
too obscure, but I still liked the level!) I love how ridiculous and strange some of the bosses are - like the dude in 4-1 who tries to
lick you!
I've been enjoying seeing how later Dark Souls games draw from it. For instance, DS1's Bridge Drake set piece is from 1-2, and DS3's Irithyll Dungeon is a remix of 3-1. I'm sure some of those ideas actually go back to King's Field but it's still cool to see them closer to their roots!
Obviously I do enjoy it when FromSoft tries out some more "experimental" mechanics (DS2
) and I understand it won't land for everyone, but I think stuff like inventory encumbrance is cool - it's pretty forgiving but occasionally you brush up against the limit and have to make some decisions, and I think that's interesting!
