you can play Bloodborne very observationally and slow paced if you want - there arent any attacks that you cannot dodge or parry
i often would just watch bosses and dodge their attacks to learn about them first before committing to attempting to kill them.

Yeah, again, I'm not saying it's too hard - I can do it! - I'm saying I don't enjoy the style of play you're describing (sidesteps and parries).

It's OK though, don't worry about it - I've beat Amelia but it's not for me. I'm really glad I tried it out and spent some time in the world, all of that was excellent, but I'm going to put it on the shelf for now. Demon's Souls might be more up my street so I'll try that out soon!

I don't know how I feel about Sekiro. The makes you feel amazing at the combat one minute and then absolutely pants the next. It'll throw big mini bosses at you that fight completely differently to how you've learnt to fight up to that point and you're just stuck either banging you're head against them for 30 minutes (as a low estimate - mosst of them require clearing out their preceeding area to retry) or moving on and losing important upgrade materials which makes the game harder later on.

It just seems really hard to know if you've actually hit L1 at the right time.

I'm progressing, but I don't feel that competent at it. I seem to have missed an important area though as I just glanced at a guide for a bit I just did and they mentioned using stuff I don't have.

Just got to the top of Ashino castle and beat the mini boss at the top who I now see was optional. He wasn't too bad once I got my eye in on the L1 parries.

May not finish this, but I'll see how far I get til I stop enjoying it.

It's a shame that you're not quite feeling the game so far, aayl. I haven't tried it although I did enjoy seeing Mafro and Pedz tackle it. It certainly looks tough; possibly harsher than the core Souls games due to the speed and number of enemies?

I'm hoping that you break thru this tough period and progress enough to boost you thoughts about the game, dude. But, hey, it should be a fun event so do feel absolutely free to stop - and maybe tackle a different Soulsborne game if you fancy it!

Just a heads-up that I'm gonna continue my Dark Souls journey; streaming at 14:00 (UK) today. As ever, all folk are welcome to pop by!

I lost the plot a bit with the controls and timings today; I'm very rusty after a year or so away from the game. By the end of the session I was starting to get more of a feel for it.

But, yeah, today's session mainly centred around tackling the Taurus Demon. I kept getting caught up under its feet and, sometimes, the camera wasn't helping. It was funny when the Demon leapt up onto the tower as I didn't know it could do that! And that clip... man, it just bounced me off  .

I've been looking back over a load of the videos that I captured during my Bloodborne run two years ago and it's just bringing back to me just how much I love that game!

My twitter feed for all of August 2019 is basically entirely clips of BB!

Loving my Demon's Souls (PS3) run. I'm still in the beginning (about level 30) but it's fantastic so far!

It runs very well on RPCS3 after some minor tweaking. RPCS3 seems like a great emulator and the game looks great at 1080p60. If you're going to try emulating it then it's worth checking out its page on Nexus Mods, if only for the lens flare and grey outline fixes.

So far I've done 1-2, 2-1, 3-1, and 4-1. I'm primarily playing a magic and bow character - just bought the Soul Ray spell which I'm looking forward to trying out. There's a lot of variety in enemy placement, so sometimes in twisty corridors I've had to get the sword and shield out too!

I like the overall structure of the world and level design a lot. Although it's not interconnected like DS1, it has more immediate nonlinearity than DS3. Once you're in a level, a one-bonfire many-shortcuts structure kicks in which feels good to explore. (I do think 4-1's shortcut is a bit too obscure, but I still liked the level!) I love how ridiculous and strange some of the bosses are - like the dude in 4-1 who tries to lick you!

I've been enjoying seeing how later Dark Souls games draw from it. For instance, DS1's Bridge Drake set piece is from 1-2, and DS3's Irithyll Dungeon is a remix of 3-1. I'm sure some of those ideas actually go back to King's Field but it's still cool to see them closer to their roots!

Obviously I do enjoy it when FromSoft tries out some more "experimental" mechanics (DS2  ) and I understand it won't land for everyone, but I think stuff like inventory encumbrance is cool - it's pretty forgiving but occasionally you brush up against the limit and have to make some decisions, and I think that's interesting!

That the King's Field series is so overlooked when people discuss FromSoft is tragic IMO

 The healing herbs aren't my favourite bit of Demon's Souls, for sure! Another thing that means it definitely won't wrest the top spot from DS1 is the lack of NPC summons. I really miss that!

I think I'm dealing with consumable healing a bit better in this for a couple of reasons. The first is exactly as you say - I enjoy the process of playing the game more, so if I did have to grind a bit I don't think I would view it as a slog to the same degree. I've also found that the basic herb is genuinely cheap and abundant, so it feels more like a tactical choice between unlimited slow healing and expensive/limited burst healing. (By comparison, Bloodborne increases the price of Blood Vials as you beat bosses so they always feel expensive.)

I'd love to play a King's Field one day. The original trilogy seems like it hasn't aged terribly well, but The Ancient City is on my to-do list. (I've heard the other PS2 FromSoft RPG, Shadow Tower Abyss, has an English patch out there on the internet somewhere too!)

Site23, there ARE npc summons, but they're mostly tied to quests. Theyre certainly not as plentiful as im other games though.

Wait, people buy blood vials?!

I always had so many of the things, they seem to drop very regularly from most mobs, and when you combine that with the fact that the "Rally" mechanic means you should find yourself down on health far less than in other Souls games I really don't know how people didn't end up with a massive supply of vials like I had.

RE: King's Field - they are somewhat dated now, but at the time they were fantastic games. Being a huge fan of the Ultima Underworld games on PC I was always impressed by what King's Field offered.

Incidentally anyone who is into that kind of game should check out this Kickstarter, partially inspired by the likes of King's Field and Underworld: Monomyth

I'm not affiliated with it in any way, I've just been following the developer on Twitter for a couple of years and it looks great :D
