I think that there will always be comments in a podcast that don't necessarily match the listener's view... the show is a collection of, often unprepared, thoughts and ideas. I thought the Xbox comment was a little harsh but it was off-the-cuff - just as posts in the forum usually are. Maybe it'd be cool to see someone like yourself or, say, Monkey Man join a future recording? That'd be pretty neat.

It was off the cuff but it was odd, like if I was on and someone said that about PS4, or Wii I'd like to think I'd argue how ludicrous such a statement would be.

These and the E3 vids are the most varied content we've ever done. You want to take part, just let me know in the thread man.

All viewpoints are welcome.

GRcade Podcast - Raw, Unvarnished Opinions!

For what it's worth I've been a bit perplexed by MS this gen. They put me off heavily with the XB1 announcement and the whole circus that went with it. Since then I've been waiting for them to show me something that would make me buy the XB1. Crackdown 3 probably would have been it. This E3 had a load of good games from them, however everything is coming to Windows. As a PC owner it basically told me that I now have absolutely no reason to buy a physical Xbox when the games I want are coming to PC. I think it basically shows that their focus is now more on Xbox as a service rather than as a piece of Hardware. I said this on the show as well, the box is just a gateway to that service. Non-PC gamers, I still think are better served by the PS4, but if Gears, Halo, Forza etc float your boat then an Xbox is pretty much what you need (Though a PC would be better ;) ).

Although to balance things out both Pedz and Dragon have Xboxes this time around so swings and roundabouts.

Just hope we get some decent news to talk about next Friday.

Surely you understand that a lot, most likely the majority of Xbox One owners don't game on PC, plus as an owner of an Xbox One, I like the fact that PC gamers will have cross buy and cross play in some titles, it means online games will have longer life spans and be more populated.

I'll upgrade to Scorpio and have a beast console that will be supported with games from 360 onwards plus with optional VR if I make that jump. To say "I don't know why anyone would buy an Xbox One" is ridiculous at worst, extremely narrow minded at best.

I'm a little bit uncomfortable with the idea that there is an "in-group" in the eyes of some folk. Sure, certain GRcadians may interact more with certain other GRcadians because of gaming formats and / or interests and / or personalities, but I'd hate to think that anything in GRcade is regarded as "exclusive" to certain people.

I'm not in any way associated with the running of GR but, personally, I can't think of activities where people would have a reason to feel excluded.

I hope that Devlin won't mind if I have a go at knocking this on the head: Devlin has said that anyone is welcome to join the podcast; within the boundries that, for practicalities, there can only be a limited number of people in each session. If you'd like to join in - and that is great! - just let Dev know and he will work out when you could join in. It may not be immediately (i.e. if, say, four other people had already ask to join that particular podcast) but I'm sure that no-one will have to wait that long.

We're all gonna have different takes on things, but the re-launch of the podcast would seem to be a good thing for GR. It's gonna get even better as, in time, more people decide to take part in the chat :toot: .

Why not take part yourself? Devlin has already said it's open to anyone.

Currently planned for a week on Friday at 9pm. Dragon and Pedz are already confirmed in for reasons I've mentioned a page or two back (They did the E3 videos, and were among those who really pushed to get the podcast back and so they all got first refusal on places in the first two episodes) and Cuttooth has expressed some interest in taking part. So I can put you in the running for that spot (It'll be picked at random) or I can guarantee you a slot in the episode after that (We record every two weeks).

There's no intention to be unbalanced or biased against anything in particular (Though we're not journalists so I'm not really too bothered). Most of what we say is just off-the-cuff comments made at the time, with some exaggeration thrown in as well. The comment about "Why would anyone buy an Xbox" is obviously an exaggeration as there are plenty of reasons, some of which you mentioned. I've explained why I don't see any point in buying one from my point of view as a PC gamer, though that's obviously for me, in my situation.

Anyway, lets move on.

I know Cheeky Devlin put some work into this, so it's appreciated the effort he and the other talkers put in.

Photek, I do understand what you mean - but I would say that part of the issue is the technology. If a podcast is recorded with four people sitting around a table they can all see each other and take visual or audio cues as when is a good time to cut in giving a very natural conversational style. As it was it is four almost strangers, using Mumble touch-to-talk, it's sort of a wait-until-your-turn-to-speak. Sometimes you would like to interject but on the other hand you don't want to talk over someone who is speaking.

Talkers will all have different, sometimes controversial opinions and I would say that they don't all need to be deconstructed else the danger of a slanging match happening. But when a big topic is being discussed, such as Microsoft's future plans for the Xbox, it would definitely be good to have someone representing the Xbox community - and I think you definitely should put your name in the hat.

PsychicSykes wrote:I'd knock the politics stuff on the head but enjoyed the podcast overall. Looking forward to the next one.

My big worry before the show was that it would become a soapbox for people to preach - and I come to GRcade to escape the world. As it happened the tone of this section was overly-aggressive. I live and work in London and people come in all shapes and sizes and you get along by being respectful of other people even if they have different opinions. If you get angrier and talk louder it doesn't make your opinion more right. This discussion for me as a participant and as a listener, absolutely didn't work.

As for my own performance, I'd be happy to hear any constructive feedback which I will use to get better - should I ever be on another podcast! But it's nice to have a podcast again and I think this thread is very useful and will benefit episode 2.

Peace! :)

On the topic of not seeing each other would it help doing it via a multi person Skype call you could record the audio from mumble as it would the best sound but with Skype there you would see facial expressions and might give a more "round table" feel.

Are you deliberately missing the point of that whole discussion?

They had pretty much the exact same Xbox One discussion on the Videogamer podcast this week by the way. Dave is obviously still lurking.

What's the barrier to doing this weekly -- is it that Devlin feels he would burn out?

Pretty much. It takes up a decent chunk of my Saturday to edit it all together. Plus with ARcade Attacks back in two weeks that takes time as well. I'm only one man after all. :D

Why is this 2.0? This is at least the sixth podcast this forum has tried to launch....I'll not get involved so hopefully this one lasts :shifty:
