It's great to see this back. I've enjoyed listening to the first two sections of the latest podcast (I'll listen to E3 and beyond tomorrow) but Taf did a great job of selling Frostpunk. It sounds like a very well developed game but the bleakness isn't for me.

There are a lot of good points about Nintendo's online service. Personally, it'll be like the online fee for PSN and Xbox Live in that I'm just paying to play online and cloud saves (though the latter does provide them without a subscription). The 'free' games in any of the services don't interest me because I barely have time to play the ones that I've chosen to buy let alone the ones tied to a subscription. I can't remember the last time a title that I wanted to play and hadn't already bought even appeared on PS Plus or Games with Gold.

Even though I've still got the rest of this one to listen to, it'd be good to see one more before E3 :toot: Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback, Dragon!

Sorry all about the lateness of E02 -- hoped to have it up last night, but it needs a little bit more work so it'll have to be tonight instead. I think we had some interesting chats and I'm really looking forward to releasing it.

Thanks! And I don't blame you, it's not for everyone.

For those who were interested though GoG have it on sale for around £20 snoops (or 25 euros according to my version):

I actually worry that I was too negative on the Nintendo online stuff and my talking of Metroid Prime wasn't simply too much rambling nonsense.

I think we all gave Nintendo a kicking but I stand by it being deserved

Sorry that this is pretty late, everyone! My bad.

This is the first of a series of podcasts focusing on games development, tech news, and nerd culture. The host Karl is joined by Earfolds, Lex-Man, and OrangeRakoon. The guests tell us why they're in to games development and what they're working on at the moment. OrangeRakoon gives us an in-depth look at the new Nintendo Switch "dockless" option in Japan, and then Earfolds presents the Xbox Adaptive Controller and wider progress on accessibility in videogames. The podcast ends on a discussion concerning how accessibility and representation fit with both developer intent and audience expectation.

Music: Bensounds - Endless Motion

EDIT: I have just now corrected an audio glitch in that file. Thanks to Earfolds for pointing it out.

It will be tonight. Devlin's at work atm. I think it'll be tweeted out at some point too. :)

I had a really nice time taking part in this. Karl did an amazing job, and he, OrangeRakoon, and lex-man make for good conversation. We sure covered a lot of ground in this episode!

I'm still waiting on Dragons feedback from S03E01's second half.

Thanks, it was good talking to you as well.

I listened back to it yesterday and really enjoyed listening to it. My only problem is how many times I said bizzare. Probably should get a thesaurus.

I'm still waiting on Dragons feedback from S03E01's second half.

I managed to listen to it this morning and it was good to hear opinions around the Walmart leak, especially with hindsight. Nothing from that leak caught my attention but I enjoyed the first Splinter Cell so I'll give the new one a go if it exists and is well received. I keep meaning to go back to play the others but I should pick up MGS 3 first.

The Metroid talk was very interesting and got me hyped for its hopeful reveal next week. I enjoy the exploration aspect of the series, especially when you unlock new areas as you find more equipment. The isolation really lets you get lost in the world in a way that Zelda or Xenoblade don't as the are more NPCs and (in the case of the latter) party members. Hopefully by the time Prime 4 is released, I'll have explored all of Alrest and had the chance to actually complete Prime 3.

I'm looking forward to listening to the newest one tomorrow morning :toot:

Really interesting chats in this one, especially around accessibility, and the interaction with game difficulty.

Genuine question here, though. In the section about the trans speed runner, where you were talking about her and her old username, would that be considered dead naming? I'm not really sure of the etiquette around it, as obviously people change usernames online all the time, and for any number of reasons, but if she's changed her username as a result of transitioning, is it right to use her old one?

This occurred to me too while editing, and fwiw I feel as editor it's definitely my responsibility (rather than any of the guests involved). I think the zeitgeist at the moment is that it's OK to briefly clarify "this person released that work under her old username, X", but that maybe if you keep clarifying the old name then it can start to sound insensitive. In general I would feel that further uses of the name ought to be removed. But on this particular occasion I didn't want to slice out that part of the chat because I think the intention and messaging was quite positive even if the phrasing wasn't 100% spot on. Anyway, to answer your question directly, you're right, I think it would have been better to refer to her by her new name exclusively besides the initial clarification.

As a wider point, it's a shame that we have limited diversity on the team. I think we managed to have positive & interesting chats about accessibility and representation, but they would have been improved by voices who are more personally affected by the issues in practical terms than we are. (If someone is reading this thinking "that's me!" then let me know. :-) )

Knoyleo wrote:Really interesting chats in this one, especially around accessibility, and the interaction with game difficulty.

Glad you enjoyed it! I'm consciously trying to cultivate a mix of topics -- impressions, news, the industry, development, and politics are all interesting in their own right, and the goal is to always have a finger in each of them.

While it would be great to get a more diverse cast. We aren't all just white straight guys.

I guess a lot of issues would be harder to discuss when the majority of us, if not all will have not experienced many things that may get talked about.

Agreed, totally. This is getting a bit 'meta' (maybe we should move to our PM chain?) but I think it's something we could start discussing beforehand when we're shooting topics around. Certainly if anyone wants to go "I'm affected by this issue, so can I be on this week?" I'd be very positive about that.

(To clarify for anyone reading this wondering what the podcast is actually about: the podcast is mostly not politics / social issues, but it's important to us that we get those bit right, or at least as right as we can! :toot: )

Really great stuff on editing this together Karl! I definitely took a while to warm up at the start there with all my ums and uhhs, but the discussion from 53 minutes to 1h10 especially about game difficulty and the intention of developers I found very interesting to be in and was great to listen back to!

Also love the post music play out bonus
