It will sell less than the Neo Geo.

It will sell more than the Vita.

I really can't see the appeal of the Wii U, and none of its features make me even consider buying one.

So, bearing that in mind, it'll probably sell a tonne, as most things I don't like seem to appeal to the masses.

A lot of people I know don't even seem to be aware that it's coming out, so that's not a great indication.

I'm thinking probably something along the lines of what others have said - Decent sales while the core gamers buy it, probably continue to do well for a while once the tablet controller gains interest from others, but I doubt it's going to touch the Wii's sales. So likely better than Gamecube, worse than Wii.

Not very well.

Based solely off Nintendo's titles, it should be able to carve a decent little niche for itself.

I don't think it can count on decent third party for any length of time though, and its early attempts at online do not lead me to believe that it's system will ever be anything better than laughable.

4 years later, how did we do? :D

The Wii U is at 13.36 million consoles sold, and Wii U production has ended

In comparison, 101.63 million Wiis were sold.

Mega flop.

Jesus :dread:

Reading an article on the gamecube in retrogamer and it referenced the N64 sales on 30 million were considered a flop, so I can't see history being kind to the U.

Fwiw, I think the console itself is terrible, cheap feeling, uncomfortable main control system, almost third party appearance to it.

Great games, which is what really, matters of course, but I'll be glad to see the back of it.

I think when you look at it now it feels like it was a test for where they wanted to go with Switch.

If most of the Wii U's exclusives end up being ported to Switch then Wii U will not really be remembered. if they don't I could see the system being remembered in the same vain as GC

I agree with Ad7 mostly. But in saying that, I feel it deserved better success. It's my favourite Nintendo console since the SNES, despite the numerous problems that plagued it. The software Nintendo put out for it was great to amazing, bar a few exceptions, and I will fondly remember it for giving me games like Tropical Freeze, TW101 and my personal game of the generation, Splatoon.

I hope the switch kills it.

It won't be a surprise to hear that I really like the U. For me, the stand-out feature has been Miiverse. It is hugely under-utilised and under-rated and I'd love to see an even better version appear for the Switch.

In gaming terms, GRcade's Mario Kart Monday racing nights have been one of my favourite videogaming experiences.

I agree with this, apart from I find the gamepad surprisingly perfectly comfortable to use. The whole console and controller aesthetic is ugly as hell though, and I avoid off-tv play because of the awful gamepad screen

I quite like my U and the gamepad is an awesome way of playing for me, it does however feel a bit cheap and i don't like that when you tap it feels hollow and not solid.

The games I have played have been well done so it has that. I think they ballsed it by not putting enough grunt in the box to allow other 3rd parties to bring their games over.

I don't mind the screen, it isn't the greatest but I have never been one to care about being HD etc. I find it really handy so i can dip in and out of a game while in the living room and not need to hog the TV.

Bought it about 4-5 months in with NSMB, Nintendoland and Sonic & All-Stars. Loved it from the word go.
It might not have had the most packed release schedule but a lot of what was there were pure gems. Mario 3D World, Mario Kart, Zombi U, LEGO City, Zelda Remasters, Xenoblade, Splatoon and more.

Then Super Mario Maker came out which justified the entry price on it's own.

I've never had a second of buyers remorse. Loved everything about it, even the gamepad which I find perfectly comfortable.

I'd only put it above the Wii in terms of favourite Nintendo consoles, but they've not made a system I've been disappointed by. It shall be missed.

I don't get hung up on resolutions either, but going from an OLED Vita screen to the gamepad screen is incomparable. Moreso than the actual resolution is the fact the games are clearly not designed for that screen. I have no problem playing PSP or DS, but on the gamepad everything just looks blurry and unclear - especially text. The inset screen and cheap touch functionality adds to my dislike of using it.

But don't get me wrong, I still really like my WiiU. It's all about the games.

I can see jumping from a Vita or something would do that, luckily I only have the U so it isn't so bad. The touch is properly cheap and nasty though, Resistive touch in these days I mean really!

Too many 2D and 2.5D platformers, Nintendo's worst console.

On a positive note, it did have Mario Kart 8.
