The gang drowns in sand.

Except they don't because they fall through the sand to a worm cave underneath, begging the question of how all that sand is staying up there in the first place.

Hi, I'm Lando, I'm black, and as you're a black woman, you must be my daughter somehow, because all black people must be related somehow and the universe is only 5 planets in this anyway.

Hi Poe, I'm your ex. So you CAN'T be a gay, because you've done full sex on a woman and that's that. Now here's a special space token to start a ship thus justifying this chance meeting.

You forgot one:

I'm Poe, played by a Latino actor, therefore I have a history of drug dealing!!!

None of that is as bad as the Chinese posters.

Similar to my earlier point (and I said this at the time): if you have played any Star Wars game with Force powers and not thrown your controller down in disgust at Force healing, then you can't get upset at Force healing being a thing in the movies. It's entirely consistent within the universe.

You know what

(I can)

The EU is one thing, the films are another. The way it's introduced in RoS causes exactly the same issues as Hyperspace Ramming, as so eloquently explained by Orange.

I think Force Healing is far worse than Hyperspace Ramming. What Holdo does is entirely consistent with what we know about hyperspace from the narrative provided in the movies, it's literally explained by Han that hyperspace collisions are a thing.

Force Healing just comes out of nowhere. The closest you have to some hint at it is with Obi-Wan touching Luke's head in A New Hope, but there's nothing really there to suggest that any Force power is at work.

As far as I'm concerned anything that exists in EU/Legends that they haven't directly overwritten (e.g. Dark Forces and Rogue One) is fair game and should be accepted as canon if it is brought back in. Star Wars bedsheets were not collectively soiled when Jedi Knight and KOTOR came out, despite the fact that nobody used those powers in the films. Why is it suddenly a massive issue when nobody was asking these questions in 2005?

And, again in my opinion, it isn't that much of a stretch to think that if midichlorians can lift starships, conjure lightning and control minds, they might be able to fix booboos. If they made a big deal of it before it would be criticised as telegraphed.

There are very legitimate criticisms of both the films, but those two and Leia Poppins aren't among them!

I don't mind the force heal, apart from its a kind of put of nowhere power that gets overused in its importance. At least it's not introduced in the prequels, then has to be explained away as to why it's never used again (like the super speed and ultra high jumps).

I think it makes sense in that jedis are now far more powerful 30 years on and learning things a previous generation didnt know.

Not every Jedi has all the Jedi abilities, and so what if a particular ability is used to further the story? Can you imagine the comedy of errors Star Wars would be if the Jedi heroes in a given scene never had the right ability necessary to get past it?

Yeah it would have been a shame if Rey couldn't force heal the space slug otherwise they would never have been able to follow the trail from MacGuffin 5 to MacGuffin 6

We are missing the truly important point here poor Chewbacca has been removed from the cover so the Chinese must not like Wookies , I bet this made Chewie really sad especially as not only is he not on the Chinese poster for this film but he didn't get a medal at the end of New Hope when everyone else did.

But the problem there is with the journey the heroes make, not the powers they use along the way. If they'd fought their way through the slug encounter instead of healing it they still would've gone to the same places. It doesn't change there being special Imperial Free Hit coins, or Chewie dying only kidding actually lol, or any of the other crap they do (to be honest I've only watched it twice so I'm not able to recite it scene for scene).

It's a weird inconsistency that seems to have affected a lot of fans since the sequel trilogy. Make TFA and it's too boring and safe. Make TLJ and IT NERT STERWERZ. Make a character similar to an older one (they rhyme, just like poetry) and it's too derivative and samey. Give a magical space wizard a new magical space power (actually not new but whatever) and THAT'S NOT HOW THINGS WORK.

I'm not saying the force heal is the reason why the journey is the problem, it's a big enough problem on its own!

From the perspective of the movies the force heal does essentially come out of nowhere though, it's just another moment where you can see the awful outcome of how the movie limped through a troubled production on screen

There's a fair amount of false equivalency going on there...

Force Healing as a concept in Star Wars is A-OK. It's positively benign when compared to Finger Lightning and Hologram Luke. The problem is with the way it's introduced to the main-line film series, which is as an incredibly tortured Chekov's Gun. It's like if you added a mobile phone to Rear Window: a device that, although logical, doesn't fit the narrative and in fact invalidates a whole bunch of it. The introduction of Healing craters a lot of plot points of the previous trilogy in the same way bringing Palpatine back did. It retroactively negates and renders moot a whole bunch of the original trilogy and essentially all of the Prequels. And for what? A giant UNDO button for Evil Rey and a crappy heroic sacrifice that everyone saw coming.

It's rubbish, basically.

Just to pick up on this. I think my own personal issue with TLJ isn't that "it's not Star Wars", outside of the the fact that I just didn't enjoy it, it just doesn't feel like it fits. And this is the same argument against Rise of Skywalker. The trilogy just seems to be to competing writers who want to do their own thing and explore their own themes and the result is a disjointed mess. I would have much preferred say, a Rian Johnson trilogy or an Abrams trilogy. I may or may not have enjoyed them but a consistent feel and overall arc would probably have definitely stopped it feeling so disjointed.

To end on a positive, I did think Daisy Ridley and John Boyega were really good in it and I liked both of their characters. I do wish John hadn't been so sidelined though

1. Empire Strikes Back
2. Rogue One
3. A New Hope
4. Return of the Jedi
5. Revenge of the Sith
6. Attack of the Clones
7. A Phantom Menace

- a big gulf -

8. The Force Awakens
9. Revenge of the Sith/The Last Jedi

I put the sequels lower because TFA is just ANH but worse and I can't seperate ROTS and TLJ because both of them are completely thrown out by the other film existing. If TLJ lead on to it's own sequel it might've been good but feels disjointed and then because TLJ existed the story threads that JJ was bringing over from TFA went a different way to what I think he wanted so it felt like he was shoehorning in a load of gooseberry fool at the end to retcon what happened in TLJ.

Why they decided to change director mid trilogy I have no idea, but it ruined the sequels in my opinion. I also found it very difficult to actually care about any of the characters in the sequels at all - I really didn't get into them.

Changing director wasn't the problem, after all the original trilogy movies all had different directors, it was the lack of overarching vision in terms of the story and characters that killed things. Someone needs to be in charge and oversee things

It's pretty mental Disney have Kevin Feige orchestrating a 20+ movie strong Marvel universe over more than a decade with great success but for Star Wars decided to play hot potato with the trilogy.
