I am thinking of adding a weekly reviews round up to this, maybe every Sunday. I'll see how things go. I am also changing the way I am looking at this games and becoming a little harsher with my criticisms.

Anyway. 4 new releases and my brief impressions.

Pilot Test (80 points)

Red Block in a square. Avoid other shapes that move in the same square, they gradually get faster and faster. Survive for as long as possible. That's it.

Goblyn Stomp (80 points)

Single screen. One man, tons of goblyn's. Jump on their heads. Once you get the stomp move, just use A and X for high score.

Square Off (240 points)

Rocket Riot type game (although not as good imo and without destructable scenery), which is probably best played in multiplayer (as shown in the clip below). Looks nice, but the rinse and repeat gameplay on the first 3 single player levels, and the constant spawning of enemies, I played, left me feeling disappointed.

Snail Shot Torpedo (400 points)

You are a lawnmower (well it looks like it to me) in the centre of the screen. Your under water, you have a slingshot, you have to destroy the zombie snails making their way to your slingshot. I found this slow and the controls at times clumsy and didn't maintain my interest at all. Check out the video it may grab you.

Just tried out

Avatar Wave: Snowball Fight (240 points)

I really like this. It's like dogdgeball but in christmas, with snowballs. Has Live mode, single player arcade mode, survival mode and multiplayer mode. Uses your avatar, nicely presented and with christmas music to boot too. What more could you want to get you in the festive mood? If you don't like it, well bah humbug to you :D

Arkedo Series - 03 Pixel (240 points)

The next in the series from Arkedo has been released. I am holding off on my full judgement for the moment, but currently it is my least favourite of the 3 games in the series

There are a fair few games being released at the moment but I keep going back to Leave Home, I'll post some feedback on this game in the next couple of days, or someone else can =).

Funny you say that because, based on the trial, it seemed like my favourite of the Arkedo series so far, and the only one I've considered buying.

Its nowhere near as good as Jump, but perhaps better than the second one.

My gripe with the game is that there are a lot of blind jumps, which a hell of a lot of games get slaughtered for, yet this one because it looks so pretty gets away with and I am not too keen on the run and jump control. It is a good game but I still think I prefer the others. It's only 6 levels too, I only dip in and out of the game and I am halfway through the 5th level.

I prefer Jump myself. As for Swap it is simple but takes some skill to rack up big scores.

Twin Blades (240 points) is out by the way, the game visually looks great but I think the demo will possibly put a lot of people off. It's highly repetitive but when you get to further into the game and have power-upped your character the game is more challenging and some of the animations are really good, it is still very basic and repetitive though. I can't post a youtube video link from work.

I am still planning on making changes to the first page. Do any of you have any suggestions? I was thinking of adding a high score section for games like Leave Home, Wool, Biology Battle, Echoes+ etc...

HSH28 what games have you purchased? I know it wasn't many last time you posted.

Any of you guys got any other games you'd recommend?

I have given Tobe's Adventure a quick trial and my initial thoughts are the controls impede the game quite a bit. I have posted this feedback on the developer’s homepage.

The developer is aware of the issues, basically it uses d-pad controls and they are stiff, and they are working on implementing analogue controls. Unfortunately I do think this will affect sales because when the game is patched feedback will already be received based on the current build and ratings based on this build too.

I hope this can be sorted asap for the developer’s sake.

Still not that many (though I've had loads of trials).

Arkedo Series - 01 JUMP!
Biology Battle
Halfbrick Blast Off
I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1

Always looking for more to get, I've got the trial of Tobe's Adventure and Leaving Home to look at next.

HSH28 - The trial of Tobe's Adventure in my opinion is ruined by the d-pad controls. They are working on fixing that though.

Anyway quick round up of some of the games I have recently tested.

Decimation X - 80 points

A fast paced bullet crazy version of space invaders. I reckon it is definitely worth the 80 points. Get it.

Pixel Boarder - 240 points

Pixel graphics 2d snow boarding game. Simple graphics and the controls for the gameplay take a while getting used too. Several levels, decent tunes. I have a slight issue as to why the game suffers slow down every now and then but definitely worth a trial. My daughter really enjoyed it too.

Slide Colors - 80 points

A simple puzzle game that has 3 modes. Again I think it is a decent title for 80 points, trial it and see.

You will Die - 80 points

One life, limited energy and no power-ups. Every time you beat the boss it comes back stronger.

SOS - 80 points

Get SOS on a grid by playing an S or an O. Best played against someone and can be played on different sized grids. Kinda like 0 and X's I think.

Makiva - 80 points

I have no idea. It's in Japanese. No trailer to show sorry.

Home Run Challenge - 80 points

Score as many runs as you can. Hit targets and get on a run for multipliers and extras.

Concept Car Series 2010 - 240 points

A decent effort at a racing game even if the scenary looks bland.

Arc Viking Edition - 80 points

The 5 Viking tracks from the full game. Full game is 400 points and the trailer for that is below.

There is a game up called SPACE PIRATES FROM TOMORROW - 240 POINTS, apparently fans of Elite may like this

"Struggle your way to the top - or bottom - of the pile as you blast your way around the galaxy in this HUGE, no-holds-barred 3D space romp! Thousands of star systems in which to fight, trade and race, and an infinite number of challenging missions. Can YOU compete?"

I haven't had a chance to play it yet.

Imagine if David Braben or Ian Bell were to port Elite to Indie games. I think my head would explode at the excitement of it all. It would have to be the Archimedes version as I understand that's the best version of the game.

Tobe's adventure (240 points)

has received it's patch now and is now playable with the Thumbstick. It's a decent little game and while the controls are still not perfect it is more than playable and definitely worth giving a go.

A few more games to talk about today all 3 are worth trialing.

Soul - 80 points

A tough navigational style game, as long as you don't play it on wimp mode, that is beautifully presented. Give it a trial.

Lethal Judgment - 400 points

A really decent looking shoot em up. I am not too sure what to make of the game at the minute and I am left wondering if they should have hit the 240 point market rather than 400 points. Give it a go. I need to play it again before I decide if I'll purchase it

Plucky's 3D Adventure

This is basically a time trial 3d platform game. Once you are used to the controls this is a decent game and definitely worth 80 points in my opinion.

Soul looks amazing.

That Plucky game...I think inspired by stuff from Mario is the best way to describe it.
