Do people have/had XFiles for PS1 knows if it has subtitles or not?

I assume not, but thought I'd ask.

Just booted it up in an emulator and it doesn't appear to have them.

Nothing in the options and the dialogue in the opening FMVs at least was un-subbed.

Cool cheers, that's what I thought. As much as I love PlayStation I knew why I used to and still prefer Nintendo 64 to PlayStation - good bulk of games have subtitles and text! Granted not many have voices but still.

If I ever find it for cheap I'll grab it, but I backed off on bid because it was getting high for my liking esp with no subtitles.

Just seen a copy of Keio 2 Flying Squadron for the Saturn on eBay listed at £300.

I'm interested to see if it sells as I have a similar condition copy myself.

Edit: 'Mine' actually belonged to my brother and was without the manual, he sold it for £65 a few years ago having originally paid £1 for it.

I really want a loose GBA cart of Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town to replace the one I lost (I still have the box, manual and other gubbins) but the eBay prices are ridiculous for the PAL/EU version.

Got myself a Trinitron over the weekend. Does anyone know/have experience with somewhere reliable for RGB scart cables for SNES/Gamecube? retrogamingcables.co.uk seems to hardly actually have anything in stock.

EDIT: The snes only cable seems to be in stock - I was looking at the universal one. People's experiences with buying cables for their older consoles would still be handy though.

It's a blooming great game, I still wish Capcom would officially do a resident Evil 1.5 though and use all the old abondened RE 2 assets and in particular the games original female character ( I think she was Eliza Walker unless my brains picked that up from something else).

My local cex has/had a loose pal cart for £15 if that tickles your fancy?

Can't really speak for anywhere else to be honest. RGC is the only place I've gotten them from.

Worth the wait though. Sign up for stock alerts if you want a specific cable from them.

Yeah, I'm trying to avoid the cheap crap that floods amazon/ebay, so I'll wait for stock. Any other general tips on getting the best out of a CRT?

I'm honestly surprised how good some stuff looks, even with the standard cables. I connected my Wii to it to test and chucked in some GameCube games and the difference simply having a good CRT makes is crazy.

If you're going for RGB then you're already doing the best thing you can for your picture quality.

But CRT's are great. Older stuff looks really good on them, even on lower quality cables like composite.
Really masks some of the rougher edges on some games and makes them look great.

Do you find that dithering effects that rely on crappy CRT signals are lost with the extra clarity from RGB cables? Like the Sonic 1 waterfalls, etc?

Personally, I think I'd prefer to run composite as that's closer to how I remember them looking back in the day, but it takes all sorts.

I owned it on Nintendo 64 and despite being scared as strawberry float with it, it's still one of games I will love even if no subtitles, I also own NTSC version on PS3 (via EU PSN) but wanted to own physical PS1 copy, black label preferable and I got it now

I'd like to get N64 version too but not for good while! As of Resident Evil 1.5, yeah It's Eliza Walker, unless my memory plays tricks with me. There's prototype game out on internet but it's not finished as expected. Would be nice to have it as non-canon official game though. (think like Starfox 2 for SNES)

This is a school of thought that’s gaining traction, particularly in the US, where composite was common. I remember Sonic waterfalls as being crisp RGB lines because I used an RGB Scart cable, even in the early 1990s. I found that once I’d experienced the clarity of RGB I couldn’t go back, and I hate composite video to this day.

I can quite believe that some games were coded to take advantage of the bleeding picture provided by composite, but things like the Nintendo Playchoice 10 arcade systems (and the SNES and Megadrive equivalents) output in RGB, so even as far back as the 80s there was an optimal way to output video game content.
