Todays Retro Purchase was expensive by my terms, I spent £42 for the following 3 games all boxed with manuals but not in the best condition in the world but I think very fair for the price

Nice, these titles are likely to be pretty scarce now, especially boxed copies.

I remember renting the top one and get stuck really early on. I also remember playing a rented SNES Simpsons game, but I think it had Krusty the Clown as the main character. Do you play these games or you just like to have them?

Pokemon Crystal USA version (apparently less prints) is now selling for over £500 CIB https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gameboy-Colo ... 4951250562

I've got a CIB copy of the US version of Crystal and it's in better nick than that one.
I've got no intention of selling it, but it's interesting to know just how ridiculous prices for these are getting.

It seems that even Pokemon Blue is now going for £150+ (boxed, complete in good condition). I'm genuinely a bit disappointed that retro gaming is turning into an expensive business now; I kinda wish that people just felt that the games are old, crap and worthless as then the folk who are into them could just build up great collections and not even think about value.

A post went up this morning on an N64 FB group I'm part of.

Non-rare CIBs being advertised for £100 a pop. Good condition to be fair but it's a grim situation.

It's a vicious circle. As soon as one person is desperate enough to offer silly money for a game they want badly, that sets the mark for the price, then all the greedy bastards swoop in.

I've got 3 megadrive games which are in immaculate condition and considered rare, and they go for crazy money now. They're probably worth £10 in second hand terms under normal circumstances, but I could probably get £500 in the right place. It's just stupid.

To be fair pokemon has always been an expensive series, so while retro prices do keep going up pokemon is on the high end.

And yes I feel that pain c-m, all my bashed up N64 and GB cases :(

All my non existent N64 and GameBoy-Advance cases

Seriously though, not a collector of older games by any means but this is a properly grim situation for people who are, why the hell would anyone pay circa £500 for a copy of Pokémon Crystal, bet the internal battery doesn’t even work by this point!

I sometimes wish I'd never sold all my N64 games but then I remember that money funded my GameCube.

I've barely bought any retro gaming stuff over the past decade; I was fortunate to be buying in the period 2006 through 2011 when prices were not nearly as crazed as now.

As many collectors advise, the best time to buy is during the period just after a generation has ended. Right now, that means XBO and PS4; many people want to sell that stuff on and the market is flooded... hence cheaper prices.
