And now for something completely different; some clever chap has drawn this Animal Crossing screen re-imagined for the C64.

Conker's Bad Fur Day is 20! :o .

I'm still kinda surprised that it actually launched. A wee bit controversial, a large cart size and a steep launch price so late in the N64's mass market life... amazing.

Never played the N64 original, but I did play Live and Reloaded on the Xbox (summer of 05, I think). I quite enjoyed it, though I don't know how similar it was to the N64 game. A much better bellwether and representation of platformers on Xbox than Blinx however.

New pickups, no pics yet till they arrive:

EA Supercross 2000 (Not to be confused with Jeremy McGrath's Supercross 2000)
Superman 64

No boxes.

EDIT:

Add boxed copies of:

Mario Golf
South Park: Chef's Luv Shack

to that as well. Good couple off the list, especially Supercross which doesn't come up regularly, and an elusive black border box that looks in good condition too.

My most recent pick ups were a bunch of Gameboy Color loose carts at 2quid each Disney Dinosaur, Jungle book Mowdlis wild adventure, Thunderbirds, MTV Pure ride, 102 Dalmations, Mat Hoffmans pro bmx and rugrats time travels.

I got a boxed complete but rough looking copy of Road to Wrestlemania for Gameboy Advance for 2quid it was supposed to be a loose cart but turned up in a bashed box so was pretty happy that I got more than I thought I was going to get.

and I spent 4quid on a loose cart of Troy Aikman NFL Football for the SNES, I grabbed this as a possible future title for my review series.

Perhaps a tad ambitious, but one day I'd love to see / create a thread to ask whether, as a forum, we collectively own every game for every mainstream console. It'd be a pain to find comprehensive PAL release lists for each console, and also to track the OP, but I'd be fascinated to see it, and I'd wager that between us all there'd be very few games 'missing' from our combined collection.

This seemed as good an excuse as any to have a crack at the game the other day, having never played it before. I remember its release, but I was never really interested in it, despite owning nearly all of Rare's other N64 games. It always struck me as a bit of a strange release and more of an oddity than anything else, so I never bothered with it.

Anyway, I put a couple of hours into it on Sunday, and...yeah, it's not great. There's a really odd tone to it. Strange, jarring characters, confusing and messy environments, unclear objectives and signposting...it's just not very fun. Visually it's impressive, but everything else about it so far has been very average. I reached a point where I haven't got a clue where to go, and so I'll probably look that up and put another hour or so into it, but if it doesn't improve, I think I'll ditch it.

I was looking the other day at what came out in Europe on the N64 back in 2001, and there's still some big titles there:

Batman of the Future: Return of the Joker - January 2001
Scooby-Doo! Classic Creep Capers - March 2001
Star Wars: Episode I Battle for Naboo - March 2001
Rugrats in Paris: The Movie - March 2001
Pokémon Puzzle League - March 2001
Banjo-Tooie - April 2001
Tigger's Honey Hunt - April 2001
Conker's Bad Fur Day - April 2001
Excitebike 64 - June 2001
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards - June 2001
Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage - August 2001
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 - October 2001
Pokémon Stadium 2 - October 2001
Paper Mario - October 2001
Mario Party 3 - November 2001
Tony Hawk's Skateboarding - December 2001

Hawk's 2 releasing before Hawk's 1 can't be right though, can it? By this point both games would have already been very late compared to their PS1 counterparts. 3 had also just come out that year on PS1/2.

That is absolutely correct yes, THPS came out in the PAL territory about one month after THPS2 and was the last game released on the N64 over here(coincidentally THPS3 was the last N64 game released in North America). The N64 had, I think, 16 games released in its final full year in PAL. There are a couple of genuine quality games, some average ones and three appalling pieces of gooseberry fool in Batman, Scooby Doo and Tigger’s Honey Hunt.

I’ve got eight of those sixteen, and of the ones I don’t have, four of them go for £150+ in decent boxed condition.

Do you know if there are any alterations to the N64 version of Tony Hawk's Skateboarding, such as adding manuals? I can only image it feeling like a step backwards if you'd played the second game just a couple of weeks earlier (which in itself is rather surprising, releasing them so close together and back-to-front).

At least N64 owners still had quality stuff to play in 01 if they were waiting for the Cube though.

I got NASCAR Fast Tracks complete for the original Gameboy for 5quid today, the box is a bit rough but not too bad considering how old it is and the price

You could try this with Nintendo home consoles - there are decent lists available for the PAL libraries of each console, though the Switch is insanely unruly as it counts all the downloadable games as well. I've quickly compiled the games from Nes to Wii U into a spreadsheet if you fancy starting a topic!

I got THPS2 on the N64 shortly after release, as I was a fan of playing the PS version at a friend's.

It still annoys me that I didn't pick up a few late titles though - Pokémon Stadium 2 being an obvious one, as I was a fan of the games, loved Gold and Silver and had the original Stadium. Mickey's Speedway was another, though so average reviews ultimately put me off that.

With the GC, I was more aware that these titles would become rare or expensive later on, so I hoovered up titles like Chino Robo, Mario Baseball, Baiten Kaitos abd Starfox Assault (not literally).

As an aside, I recently went to my local second hand skip and picked up loads of older Pokémon games. Got Soul Silver, White, Y and Omega Ruby, albeit only the latter two have English language options.

Annoyingly, I actually had a properly boxed JP Soul Silver with the pokewalker (as opposed to just the game and the game case I have now) but traded it in as I wasn't playing it, likewise with a copy of Platinum. Going to try and look for Platinum again, but doubt I'll find the full version of Souls Silver in a second hand shop. The good thing about Japanese ones are that generally the second hand copies are pristine. You could easily sell them on again and claim you've been the only owner. Annoyingly it's now the only way to get Pokémon games, as prints seem to have dried up and they aren't available new. Even second hand games can cost a bit - the game case of Soul Silver (i.e. without the bigger outside box and Pokewalker) still cost me about ¥3400 (£22).

Yeah I have a boxed copy of Heart Gold with Pokewalker that is not quite pristine but in good condition - apparently it is worth the best part of £100, though I wouldn’t sell it.

My last N64 game was Paper Mario, still have it in pristine condition too.

I wanted Bad Fur Day, but got Banjo Tooie instead as Banjo was £49, and Conker was a ridiculous £59!

N64 games always took the piss when it came to pricing.

Ive got one PAL copy of almost every mainline Pokémon game (bar some third versions like Yellow, Crystal and Platinum) hut the reason D/P remake announcement has gotten me back into the series, so I've been looking at getting the other version here in Japan (so I have a UK Black, so I bought a Japanese version of White etc).

I have a boxed copy of Heart Gold too, and wonder what condition its in after a decade stacked in my retro cupboard with my GBA and N64 stuff. Those cardboard boxes were not durable. I barely used the Pokewalker as well. If I'd known how rare they were going to be I would have picked one up, as I have a lot of nostalgia for Gold and Silver.

Jesus I had the poke Walker and binned it when I moved. Still have my heart gold loose cart though. Idiot.
