Nice. But: there has been a disappointing lack of news about The Powerpuff Girls and how it plays.

I've been pressing F-5 daily hoping to see whether it still stands up.

I dont think id have picked a power puff girl game up if it wasnt part of a bundle but I will try it just for you the next time I have some free time lol

Hey guys, would anyone be interested in having some issues of Retro Gamer? I keep getting sent a duplicate copy whenever my subscription arrives and I am loathe to just chuck them in the bin, but the Mrs is getting annoyed with the ever-growing pile of magazines by my side of the bed

I've got issues 216 through to 224 (which is currently on shelves), all in great condition, basically unread, with the subscription-only front covers.

All I'd ask is that the postage is covered, whatever that might add up to. I'd stick them in a box and send them your way.

PM me if you're interested.

Edit: THE POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED :capnscotty:

Started my gameboy mod today. Having the spare shell was pretty helpful, as I could practice trimming a few tabs without worrying I was going to snap something.

Permanently fixed the screen and glass in place earlier, so I really really hope I've lined it up correctly as there was a little bit of wiggle room.

My soldering iron arrived yesterday, so I'm going to practice on an old pc motherboard, then tackle the gameboy this evening.

Anybody got an everdrive for the gameboy? I've purposefully got a power supply mod to attach so it can power the ips screen along with an everdrive (plus a speaker mod if I fancy that at another time).

I've been taking pictures at all steps. Barring any fuckups, it's probably a couple of hours worth of effort once you know what you're doing.

The colour scheme I've chosen :datass:

To avoid derailing this topic too much, and as it's quite a lot of images, my gameboy pocket mod details are here if you fancy a read:

I had my eye on a big 32" Trinitron on eBay that was sitting at £1 for most of last week. I wouldn't have the room for it, but I was following along anyway out of curiosity.

It ended yesterday on £21, and I feel like a bloody mug for not putting a bid in. I would've made the flippin' room for that money! :fp:

Dang, sorry that you missed out, CM. 32" CRTs are *huge*, though; you really gotta have plenty of spare space to have a beast like that setup. Hopefully you'll see something similar again soon.

Oh god yeah, I remember the beast we used to have in our living room. I'm not even sure it was as big as that! It would have been a case of roping a mate- if not two- into a 3 hour round trip to help shift it as well, which is a pretty big favour to call in.

The stars sadly didn't align this time, but I might still keep an eye out. We'll likely be turning the spare bedroom into an office in the coming weeks as the missus got offered a job at my place, so with a bit of luck (and a touch of grovelling) I might be able to set up a little games corner. ;)

Another thing I think is worth bearing in mind is that very few games actually had widescreen support at the time CRT was basically better for everything. You might be better off with a 21 or 24 inch that supports letter boxing for 16:9. I had a 21 inch panasonic (in black) I think it was for my GameCube, back in the day, composite only but it was a pretty good comprimise between space and having my own screen.

One thing I regret is a 21 or 24 inch broadcast monitor with a kind of filter screen in front of it that along with a few others was in a skip at art uni (they kept them around for film stuff). I stowed it in the studios to keep but at some point gave up moving it even though we had a car.

My tiny 9" PVM does have an aspect ratio switch on the front which is handy.

Yeah, I'd probably go for a smaller TV anyway for the sake of space, I was just toying with the idea of that one because it was so cheap.

Didn't widescreen CRTs have a button on the remote to change the aspect ratio, though? It's been a good 15 years since I last used one, so my memory's pretty fuzzy.

Yup they did. I mean more if you're going to be playing in 4:3 most of the time, you can save your self the space!

Ah, fair enough! Yeah it'd probably be a tight squeeze fitting a 32" inch CRT in that spare room as well as a making it a home office! :P

I once nearly accidentally destroyed our 28 inch CRT during my teens, was sat watching it and noticed my electric wheelchair was still switched on, pressed the power button and the bloody wheelchair started uncontrollably moving towards the TV and wouldn't switch off.

Luckily it hit the edge of the sofa and got stuck for a few seconds, during which time the control unit on the wheelchair had totally fried itself, my knees were actually pressing against the TV screen too.

Turns out that the wheelchair had a known fault as the following week there was a nationwide product recall of that model of control unit (apparently someone had been seriously injured in a similar incident).

So today I got a boxed 1530 Datassette Unit Model C2N for £5 from a charity shop (its the Cassette drive for a Commodore Vic20 and/or Commodore 64).

Ironhide, man, that sounds terrible... but also a little funny :shifty: . Glad you survived and didn't wreck the TV :toot: .

The C2N  . There were a number of variations and I've used the device with a Vic-20, C64, C16 and Plus/4! It's great that you have the box as well. It'd be lovely to see this in a future Retro Weekender!

Felt like CEX wasted my time yesterday, almost went £110 for Skies of Arcadia Legends for gamecube as the disk was mint but turned out they didn't have the manual which easily places it closer to £80 average ebay competed sale price.

It's not CEX policy to factor in manuals but at that price bracket you would think they would have two separate items, one complete and one incomplete.

Went away to think about it came back and nope no manual, I walked away. I'm not paying £110 when £80-£100 gets you a complete copy.

Anyway they did have Pokemon Colosseum including manual for £32 which was a good price, but the cheeky buggers split out the included memory card 59 with the sticker on it for £15 in a separate cabinet. So that's basically £15 a sticker that originally came on a sheet in the box.

I'm tempted to pick both up just to keep it together as it was actually a title I was interested at the time (closest thing to a proper console Pokemon game before Pokemon Sword & Shield) but not sure it'll get played. Went stopping for my girlfriend's 30th and she's always wanted skies of arcadia for dream cast, which they had a few weeks ago for £70 and it went quickly.

Perhaps for the best for what is ultimately a slightly comprised port of the original game (the music isn't played back properly on the gamecube audio engine and there are some graphics clipping issues).

They do have a very nice not yellow DC controller for £6 thinking of picking that up for 4 player ReVolt or similar games.

Edit: just checked and both controllers here are yellow and the console is orange now lol, I'm going to grab that now as I live literally around the corner from there now which has been getting expensive...
