This seems as good a place as any for this - I'm looking at making a small display of some of my retro games on a book shelf type unit I have in my games room. The original intent was to just have my racing stuff out, but as you can see from this photo I actually have far more than I realised (that's two layers high of ps1 games on the left). I have nothing to actually stand them up with so there's a very high chance of my fragile cases all toppling over and smashing if the unit gets bumped (which is quite likely). Anyone got reccomendations for some multi purpose individual stands? The ones i have seen all seem really over engineered acrylic jobs which are pretty expensive. I really only need fold out type stands that can stop the various sized stuff toppling over. Maybe some tiered bits to make ones at the back be higher. Who knows.

(Excuse the random books). I may also make each part something specific, maybe a dedicated ps1 part, maybe some gameboy stuff, who knows.

First thing is to decide exactly what you want to display. It maybe looks like you've got a bit too much on there (although I know you're still using the shelf for actual storage!)

Second thing might be to reconsider the unit itself as I think the partitions make it harder for you to display exactly what you want how you want it. This could be as simple as removing them and placing a decorative covering underneath your collection to hide the empty screw holes, or using white screw hole caps.

In terms of the stands, have you considered making them yourself? The base of the game box already forms two thirds of a tripod so all you need is a third leg (chortle!) and the boxes should be stable. If you imagine a narrow ribbon of sheet metal (10mm plus in width) - bend one end to be flush with the box when it's the angle you want, then affix it (see below). You can then bend the other end to make a little foot for stability.

This pack of balloon dots are like the gum you get on the back of a new credit card and might make it so you can attach a home made stand directly to the case without any damage. I wouldn't use this with a paper case but the plastic ones should be fine.

Thanks for replying.

I definitely have too much stuff out. I only intended to get a few games out and ended up bringing everything racing related down, including a GT3 ps2 which I forgot I even had. I'll be ruthless and thin it out a bit I think. Unfortunately the partitions are integral to the structure and it'll just collapse without them.

Making stands is a good shout, it may be that I've got enough bits in the garage to make raising platforms and so on.

Thanks :D

If by 15 you mean years, then I've still got 10 left to find out!

They were out for a different reason and I ended up keeping them there. I've got a lot more Amstrad stuff but I don't know if I'll put any of that out.

I’ve been playing Demons of Asteborg, a 2019 Mega Drive game (just released on Evercade but also available on Switch and PC/Mac, as well as on MD cart). It is just fantastic. If they’d been able to release this 30 years ago, I reckon it would have been a huge smash hit.

I'm sure it's absolutely excellent, but solely from watching that trailer, given the main character's name and hair, all I can think of is Gareth Keenan.

Haha, I think the devs are French - maybe it sounded exotic to them.

EDIT: Also a Knight of the Round Table, which I didn’t know until now.

Brother gifted me an SF2000 handheld emulator. He bought it for me to test it out basically

You can tell this thing is a budget handheld. The shoulder buttons are so clicky. It runs everything up to and including the Megadrive really well. The SNES are patchy. The GBA games may as well not be there. Yet some more intensive MAME titles run surprisingly well. It's weird!

Despite that, it's really impressive for a handheld that can be bought for a tenner online. Every other button is fine, I wouldn't say the DPAD is amazing, but it is usable.

Gonna update the firmware and see if it fixes some issues. My suspicion is that the horsepower isn't there for GBA and some SNES games. We'll see.

Interesting article here looking at the "Performance Analyser" for the PS1, which resulted in games looking drastically better as the generation went on: https://www.timeextension.com/features/ ... 32-bit-war

Examples of this can mainly be seen in titles released from late 1997 onwards, such as Tekken 1 and 2 vs Tekken 3; Resident Evil vs. Resident Evil 2 and 3, Tomb Raider vs. Tomb Raider's 4 and 5; Alone in the Dark: Jack Is Back vs. A New Nightmare; and Ridge Racer vs Ridge Racer Type 4.

Namco seemed to be capable of witchcraft with the PS1.

Wip3out also looked far more impressive than the first two games.

NES Tetris has been officially killscreened by a human being for the first time.

Crazy that this kid is only 13 and he's done something no-one else has managed in 35 years or so of that game.

That was a great video of an incredible achievement. I don't quite get how those players are doing that "rolling" controller movement... nor how they have the reaction times to cope with the speeds of those post-29 levels. It is very impressive!

Remember Steel Battalion? The OG Xbox mech robot title that used that incredible controller setup? Time Extension has published a terrific article about it.

I ordered two Chinese Handhelds, just got them, not going to use them till tomorrow but before I do I will take the micro sd cards out and save the contents to a folder on my harddrive so I can copy them onto better cards and have a root through the contents to see if there is anything intresting.

I got an R36S as well!

The buttons aren't as sensitive as I'd like, but apart from that, it's great. It came with some Dreamcast games. Soul Reaver runs really nice on it.

I haven't done the SD card thing yet. I need to sort that out and add more PS1 roms. I'd also like to get a master system emulator on there for Land of Illusion.

I put a Video review of the R36S out just before going to sleep... I am about to go on a weeks holiday tommorow so not sure if I will get enough time to sort out the video for the other one, that might be a once I get back job.
