Where you an I differ is to when we regard the baby/foetus a sentient being. I believe that *it* becomes sentient from within the womb, studies have shown foetuses/unborn babies respond to outside stimuli, be it music, or the prospective parents talking to their children. (Although this maybe purely psychological).

He was saying it for comedic effect.

I said they were sentient. This was in response to

'Even UK law states that it is only human life once the foetus is born.'

Are they sentient though?

A plant responds to stimuli. Is it sentient?

Is bum doctor a murderer because he chops down trees.

Like I said, I was responding to the 'foetuses aren't human, till they're born' argument. Perhaps I should have said intelligence, or awareness of capacity to feel pain.

ho hum.

Oh and Bum Doctor looks like a murderer.

I never said I was against abortion, did I? strawberry floats sake. All, I'm doing is just echoing the view that there should be cutoff point for when abortions should be allowed.

Oh, and chickens won't grow up to be human, will they?

Guess I should have used a better word than 'sentient'

I do not see what Libertarianism, ie. less goverment, less hand holding and less interference from the state, has to do with us debating the moral question of when a foetus has rights, or what point it becomes a 'human being'.

You can argue that the state shouldn't impose or interfere in someone's life and that people should be able to do what they want with their own bodies, but I would say it's a bit of a cop out and deflecting from the nitty gritty of whether abortion is right or wrong.

In fact I'd say they are two different debates.
