PostGRcade solves: Zombies (norms)
by aayl1 » Sun Nov 02, 2008 12:50 am

I feel a pressing issue has come to light with Halloween recently just being passed. And that is that there is no "norm" for zombies.

An issue we are going to solve now.

I for one fall into the camp described by the zombie survival guide:

Movement: Slow shuffle, incapable of running

Diet: Craving human flesh, but not needing it for sustenance

Infected: Only if bitten by a zombie, but not devoured. If you've been completely eaten then you won't be a zombie, as there's nothing of you. Subject turns into zombie 24 hours after passing away.

Defeated: Only by destroying the brain. Removal of the head will stop the use of the body, but will still be capable of biting. Alternatively, will decompose after a few months.

Intelligence: Low. Approximately of a 2 year old. Will take a direct route to a target.

Strength/Fatigue: As strong as the muscles allow, though decomposition will affect this. Never showing signs of physical fatigue.

What say you, GRcade?

I'm all for the classic slow zombies. That way I'd have a chance to get away from them if there was ever a zombie outbreak. In fact I'd love there to be a zombie outbreak if they were the classic slow zombies. It'd be great fun.

I'm a sucker for the classic Zombie. Webster's Dictionary defines zombies as the living dead. The living dead shouldn't be an animated bunch. I wouldn't class the 28 Days Later zombies as zombies. I'd class them as infected.

You mean the book I mentioned in the first post?

Yeah, I should probably read it before recounting how it describes zombies.

Gotta be the slow Zombies. Riggor mortis, aint it?

Zombies were meant to be scary because of their numbers and relentlessness, not because they can run faster than me (who can't? )

But can a person who has been bitten, got eaten not completely turn into a zombie? Does the zombies go "huh?" and lumber away?

The only way to stop this is for the zombies to munch on the brains?

The fast running zombies is growing on me. Really. The only way to survive is to RUN LIKE HELL.

Whilst with the slow moving ones, you can just take a brisk walk.

1) You could be taken by surprise by a zombie, which bites you but you overcome it. You become infected and die over the course of 24 hours, then 24 hours after that you're a zombie.

2) As for the walking away, well you could do that, but you need to rest eventually. Zombies never need to rest. Ever. And the ones described in the Zombie survival guide can "smell" human flesh from something like 20 miles away, possibly more.

I quite like the idea of runner zombies. Makes it more intense. Still, when I think of 'zombie', I think of slow, shuffling dead bodies.

What I mean is if there's a person who got bitten, then dies.

If the zombies haven't munched on its brain, wouldn't the body turn into a zombie?

EDIT: Half eaten body, with its brain intact. Would the zombies stop and go "huuuurrr it's one of us now. Sooood this, leeee'ts find a fresh oneeee." if they could speak.

Zombies should never run. They're dead, FFS, and their muscles have decomposed. Running zombies were invented by film-makers who were running out of ideas.

Well there's still a brain, so yes.

But it takes 24 hours for the virus to get to the stage to allow the body to walk again. In that time the zobmbies might have eaten the whole body, rendering the now zombified brain useless.

EDIT: "My" zombies don't attack other zombies because the flesh is infected. They crave clean flesh. They won't eat an ifected dead body once it has been dead for 12 hours.

If a half eaten body still has a brain intact, it will become a zombie, yes.

This. I have a sword that I shall use when the zombies come. And I know a few good places to hide out. Imagine if all the zombies in Dead Rising were capable of running. :o

And I hate it when the zombies is supposed to be evolved, and show some sign of intelligence.

Like that god damn awful Romero film (it was fairly recently, I think in the last ten years? They suddenly know how to use firearms?! :x)

I can never remember which title belongs to which film.
