Congratulations, JK. You may have set the pace by being the first to complete all tasks in Week 1. I'll need to double check of course when I go back through the thread to do the scoring. But you've certainly staked an early claim for the title of Taskmaster 2009.

Easy

Task 1

a) Watched Harper’s Island. It wasn’t great, but slagging it off reminds me of that bit in Arrested Development when Michael opens the bag with ‘Dead Dove’ written on it – what was I expecting?

b) Later, I watched Storyville: How the Beatles Rocked the Kremlin. It was alright, but Iplayer is a bit jerky with my dodgy net connection, so I only watched half of it cos the picture was starting to get on my wick. Partial Get?

Task 2

I entered this competition:

http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/advice ... -_-generic

Dead easy and even if you don’t win the £5000 worth of gear, you get a discount code for 10 percent off.

Medium

Task 1

I put some comic books up for sale. No takers yet, but I remain quietly optimistic.

Task 2

Photos of trees.
Image
An interesting tree, I think.
Image
Sort of a tree crucifix.
Image
If a tree falls in the forest but no-one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? Yes.

Hard

Task 1

I emailed a friend of mine who lives in Germany, who I haven’t spoken to since I left the place in 2006. He mailed back to bring me up to date with what he’s up to, mentioning he has a girlfriend now; in fact it was almost as if he was boasting about it. Nonetheless, I email him again, politely congratulating him. He gets back in touch and invites me to go and visit him in Frankfurt. A positive experience.

Task 2

I realise this task is all about stepping outside your comfort zone and trying new things, and that’s an idea to be applauded. In the end though, I simply couldn’t be bothered to do this task. As a kind of halfway house I was going to photoshop a balloon animal onto that photo of me standing next to a pornographic actress in a transparent attempt to copy that wacky Drunken Master, but I’m using a Mac and it hasn’t got any paint software on it.

I accept this has been a mediocre attempt. Don’t worry, I’m just warming up. I’m sure that by week four I’ll be up to all sorts; learning Swahili, tap dancing, perhaps even successfully using a public urinal while another person stands beside me. It’s going to be the best.

It does look like the Balloon task is proving as challenging as I anticipated. Ostensibly light-hearted and simple, ultimate dedication is actually required. Still, a fair effort, tys. I predict a mid to high league table position for you. Those are some darn interesting trees, there. I am pondering whether to give you the iPlayer task. You did it in spirit and were honest about being unable to complete the documentary due to visibility issues, so you will probably get the point.

I have no money to buy balloons. Would a "rubber glove" animal work? :shifty:

I love Only Connect, it makes me feel clever for watching it but stupid for not getting any answers at the same time.

Although I'm late to the game here I'll be up for the next edition. This looks like the little distraction my life could use at the moment.

My Tasks
1. iPlay, iSaw, iConquered
I watched a Blackadder documentary and Only Connect.
2. The Winner Takes It All
I entered the lottery. I didn't win.
3. Arboretum Council
Image

This tree is in St Luke's Church in Liverpool. St Luke's Church was bombed during WW2, and is now nicknamed "The Bombed Out Church". This photo is a testament to the fleeting nature of man's accomplishments - one day we will all die, and nature will reclaim what is rightfully hers.
Image

The leftmost of this tree is one half of the makeshift goals we used for Aussie Rules shooting practise before we got some posts. I picked the left one because I'm right footed, so most of my shots curved into that one instead of going through the middle.
Image

I like trees that have wide canopies like this one. It would be better if it had droopy leaves, but this is nice enough.
4. Strictly Confidential
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=12434
Interest was slightly disappointing.
5. Reach Back
I began this task by messaging over Facebook, or "Facebooking", my friend Barry, who I had seen had recently changed his relationship status to engaged. I congratulated him and asked what was going on with him. He didn't reply, and after Taskmaster elucidated the rules, I needed to change avenues to ensure my success in this task. I noticed while watching England vs Croatia that an old friend of mine is the spitting image of Croatia coach Slaven Bilic. I decided to text him on his last known number to complete this task. Unfortunately my mate had sold his phone, and I told some random bloke he looked like Slaven Bilic. He wasn't amused, and neither was I - I don't have that many friends. Fortunately Barry replied to me the next day, and I'm going to his wedding reception - result!
6. The Entertainer
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, La Chien Vert
Image

I count that as six tasks done Mr Taskmaster sir, and if you could confirm that I would appreciate it.

Arboretum Council

My Zaffle tree. Painted that on a couple of years ago and it's still there. The tree itself is on my cousin's 'farm'. When I was younger, we used that tree to look over into his neighbours' land. If it was clear (i.e. they were out) we'd climb down and explore their barns and climb their towers of hay bales.

Image

Broked Tree. The remains of truly the greatest tree ever, also down at my cousin's. :( Back in the day this towered over the area. It was huge and great fun to climb. It also had a great rope swing. Sadly one stormy day it was hit by lightning and broked. Sad times. It's also sort of a monument to my dead dog. She's buried close by to it.

Image

Squirrel Tree: Located just infront of the block of flats I used to live in. Was great to sit and watch the squirrels scurrying around in the tree. Seriously, there were always squirrels in it. Like their headquarters or something.

Off to do the iPlayer task now.

Is it only me or does that tree look like a pair of legs?

Good going Zenigame. Dobowcop, you seem to have done a clean sweep. Impressive animal dog there.

One of next weeks tasks is so easy you barely have to do anything to pass it.
