Greetings Task Adventurers!Hello and welcome back for the next weekly instalment of Tasks of the Week.
If you are new to 'Tasks of the Week', please, don't be afraid. This is the kind of thing you can either dip in and out of at your leisure, or contest seriously to take the ultimate title of
TASK MASTER.
The low-down: Each week, I set a series of tasks. These tasks are not supposed to be chores. They are supposed to be positive experiences. Things that spice life up a little. Some are incredibly simple, others require more of a challenge. All, I hope, make a normal day a little less normal and make life a bit interesting.
I will be running this for 10 weeks, at the end of which I will award the winner (the person who scores the most points) an awesome prize, along with the sought after title of
TASK MASTER. But the real prize is the satisfaction of achieving these tasks and the experiences you have in the process of doing so.
The 6 tasks comprise of:- 2 Easy Tasks (1 point each)
- 2 Medium Tasks (3 points each)
- 2 Hard Tasks (5 points each)
2 bonus points for completing all 6 tasks. For those interested, here is the League Table based on the 1st week's Tasking:
For the stat crazy maniacs among you, the most completed task was 'Reach Back' - the task requiring you to contact someone you haven't spoken to in 6 months or more. Quite heart-warming to think that loads of you did this. The least completed task was The Entertainer - Animal Balloon making
Week 2 TasksEasy (1 point each)1. Altruistic ActThis task is quite straightforward. Simply
perform a single altruistic act. That is, an act of completely selfless kindness to someone, that has no reward for you but is simply to help another person.
2. Music for the SoulThe power of music has been recognised for centuries. Music can instil you with a sense of euphoria but it can also bring you to tears. For this rather introverted task, you have to
create a playlist of 6 songs to encompass a range of following emotions:
Anger
Love
Happiness
Sorrow
Courage
Fear
Each of these 6 songs should be discernible to you as being reminiscent of the emotion you associate with each of them.
Medium (3 points each)1. Super-Continental Food ChallengeEat a traditional meal from any 3 of the following six continents - Europe, Australasia, Africa, North America, South America and Asia.
Bonus: For this task, I will award an extra point on top of the normal 3 for every extra continent you have a meal from, making a maximum of 6 points available for this task.
I will only require visual evidence of this task if you go for any bonus points.
2. Towering AmbitionTurn an ordinary object into the extraordinary. You must build the highest tower you can out of a certain number of the same object. Matchstick boxes, playing cards, cushions, chairs, slices of toast, the choice is yours as to what to use. To pass, all you have to do is go as high as you possibly can. Now, as an example, if you have only 3 matchboxes in your possession, it’s not good enough to build a 3 box tower when you know that it would be possible to go higher if you had more supplies. In that case therefore I’d expect you to pop to Tesco or wherever and purchase more matchboxes specifically for this task.
Visual evidence required. Hard (5 points each)1. Trapped In TimeToday is 14th September, 2009. When you read this thread tomorrow though, that day, that moment will be gone. This moment is condemned to the past, left behind forever, the only vague residue to show its existence being slowly withered away to insignificance by time. But one date and time will now be created to hold special significance for you, by you.
To pass this task, you need to create a time-capsule: Now, any container can be used - shoe-box, old ice-cream box or anything else of a reasonable size. You will then put a number of items of some significance to you now into the box (nothing essential like a passport).
Among these items must be a letter that you will write to your future self. You will then seal the time-capsule and will label the time and date on it. You will then label another time and date for opening the capsule (5-10 years?) and put it away at the back of a cupboard. Then, you can forget about it.
Visual evidence required.2. Paint a PicturePaint a picture of something meaningful to you. It can be a painting of a place of significance for you or of something of importance to you. It can be an expression of your feelings or of thoughts or whatever. Does not have to be paint necessarily. Chalk, pencil, watercolours - anything will do.
Visual evidence required. The deadline for all Task Completions is 9pm next Sunday - the 20th of September.
