Been past Laon a few times but never had the chance to visit, looks really impressive from the motorway.

Yeah, we have driven past it so many times but never stopped off at it, but we had some spare time before our ferry. It was lovely, we lucked out as the town was holding a medieval festival this weekend (not so good on the parking front but managed to find a space). We could easily spend more time there.

That trip sounds really cool OS.

strawberry float me I need a proper holiday. Having our trip moved to early/mid next year has been a real psychological blow. That may not even happen either at this rate. We've got a few nights away booked in some posh lodges here and there, so that's something.

Can you not get out and about in your van? To avoid quarantine you could do a mini trip to Germany using the Euro tunnel.

My trip was mostly little short hops, so I'd do a 2 to 4 hour drive in the morning and rock up to the site at lunch time. That way you could spend pretty much the whole day fannying about.

Looking forward to this national lockdown coinciding with and utterly strawberry floating up our UK based holiday, which is a replacement for our already strawberry floated up and cancelled trip. I'll be spending my 40th at home eating a sandwich at this rate for strawberry float sake.

The place in Mexico we would have been going to next week ( :x ) has been evacuated (as in the entire region has) becuase a category 4 hurricane is due to hit imminently. Imagine if the trip had gone ahead :dread: Theres pictures of the guests sat on blankets in corridors at a school they've been taken to.

Not that you'll hear about this on the news of course because nobody cares about that part of the world. I'm sure once an American or British person is hurt, or it suddenly takes a turn up to new Orleans, you'll hear loads about it :simper:

That's because America is the only place in the world which gets hit by hurricanes, or has elections/protests/redneck hillbilly gunfights.

Thankfully, because the restrictions in Scotland allowed hotels to remain open, I've finally been able to get away, heading out to one of the Scottish lochs today which'll be neat.

We finally cancelled our big holiday last night. It was supposed to be in October, and got moved to late June, because we naively thought it would be safe enough then but no because banana split Tory government. Watching the Facebook groups for where we're going and it's full of Americans swapping tips on how to hide covid symptoms, and how to get hold of fake clear test certificates so they can go for their weekends.

I've nothing booked at all at the moment, will most likely wait until things improve and hop on a UK tour at short notice (which was what i did last autumn when i went to loch lomond).

I'm not expecting to be able to do a european tour until 2022 sadly.

Same here. All planned stuff is now off, and the best we can hope for is the odd local weekend away like we managed last year (Self catering in a lodge for 2 nights with no contact).

Got a festival in Barcelona for early June which I doubt will be on. Think we'll still be able to go to Barcelona by then just make a weekend of it instead.

has anyone been to Rhodes and have any nice travel tips for a long weekend? Any travel tips? I may do some Scuba too if there are any divers here? (qualified Padi 40 m, regular diver)

Call me nostalgic, but the nightlife seems to have lost its old charm.

I've been flying consistently for much of the pandemic and it's properly picking back up now. Been around the UK this last week, hoping to get to Venice next month while it's still relatively free of tourists, and am eyeing up a fortnight in Japan in April. That last one still feels a little risky to book considering the costs though.

Any recommendations for stuff to do in Paris. I'm fine for a haircut.

Going for my 10th wedding anniversary in November for a couple of days.

I have been before so have done Eiffel tower, arc de triomphe etc.

Looking at The Catacombs, river cruise & Sacre Coure & Montmarte Hill.

Any other recommendations, not massively into art but have been to the Louvre before.

Also any nice bars or restaurants worth checking out?
