Why would you choose SA then?

Just booked a trip to Florida in September for a fortnight

And a friend coming round on Friday so we can start looking at planning a trip to Japan next year

True true! Anyway I think after seeing that documentary on the BBC about Singapore Airlines, it makes me want to try them out...afterall they are rated the worlds best airline and I don't know when I'll next go back to that part of the world so normally never get the chance to fly Singapore.

Where you staying in Singapore? I know you like to flash the cash so would defo recommend the Marina Bay Sands. Aside from Instagram opportunities on the rooftop infinity pool, the hotel itself is strawberry floating wonderful. And right on top of a complex full of luxury branded shops I’m sure you’d love too.

Though I will counter this and say that, when I was looking at high end hotels in Singapore, I found that Marina Bay Sands was more expensive than probably some better hotels. It felt a bit like you were paying for the name and the fact that it's quite an iconic hotel. I didn't think the rooms were quite worth the price tag - you're definitely paying for the hotel rather than the room in that sense.

It's worth mentioning too that you can see a lot of the hotel without staying there. An exception to this is that photogenic pool. If you really want those Instagram shots, then it's probably worth the price. If not, I reckon you could get a better hotel for your money.

For what it's worth, hotels in Singapore (like a lot of cities in wealthy Asian countries) are generally more expensive than in Europe and also room size is smaller, presumably as a lot of cities are quite cramped and have high population densities. You'll generally be paying more for a smaller room.

I’ve not been to other hotels in Singapore to compare but found the price was fairly reasonable for the room we got and the experience we had. The view was fantastic and we were treated like royalty at every part. Breakfast was cracking too. Again, this could probably be said about other hotels. As far as N1FFF is concerned, it’s probably his jam to stay above a Rolex shop with a sky bar.

I'm not sure if they have announced a firm date, but Raffles is due to reopen this year.

If you're lucky your visit might coincide with that and you could stay there, N1FFF; it's fantastic!

Thanks for the tips! As much as I love to splash the cash £400 a night is too much! Plus I can't swim
Luckily theres a lot of other hotels to choose! I might even consider a hostel though as I am travelling solo. However when I get to Kuala Lumpur (by bus with a stop in Malacca for one night) the hotels are priced amazingly! Intercontinental is just £70ish a night!

Honeymoon next month anyone got suggestions for Miami

Were off on a cruise and the day we get back to the States we have a long wait before flying home about 9 hours so looking for suggestion.

The Singapore Sling cocktail was invented in Raffles. If you don't stay there you can always visit one of their bars and try one of their (expensive) cocktails.

I'm fairly sure Marina Bay wasn't £400 a night. Have you left it late or travelling on a particularly busy time? It was expensive (and as I said before, I think you pay a lot of the name) but not absolutely extortionate.

Raffles is easy enough to just pop in and get a drink. Might need to wait for a table but it won't be too bad. Prices are basically the same as a high-end cocktail bar in London so you should go for at least one. Has a very colonial feel, back when we had taken our country back, could call a spade a spade and entrusted menial labourous tasks to the locals.

South East of the airport is Little Havana, which has a bunch of Cuban bars and eateries. Ball and Chain is touristy and kitschy but worth a visit, it's been around for decades and they have decent drinks and live music. A few doors down we came across a great little craft beer place called Union Beer Store. It was weirdly full of wrestling memorabilia including a photo of Razor Ramon outside a domino park down the street.

Wynwood is also on the mainland, it's a bit of hipster neighbourhood so lots of bars, galleries, street art etc.

The Miami that everyone thinks of is Miami Beach, across the bay from the mainland. Ocean Drive is the main street running along South Beach, lined with art deco hotels and overpriced bars and restaurants. A lot of places have good happy hours though.

Obviously the best thing about Miami is driving around listening to the Vice City soundtrack. So I recommend doing that.

Went to Krakow.Too feart to use trams cuz we’ve been taking taxis everywhere for a week. Bought weed with Italian school kids (who somehow had a contact in Poland) who tried to hit on us before realising we’re actually 30 and married. £2 White Russians got us nicely pissed. Now we’re heading out in Wroclaw which is quite lovely and full of cheap wonderful food. Hard not to be excessive with everything given the price of stuff here.

Q. Does anyone have any recommendations for Oregon, Seattle or Vancouver?
