Provided I get a job offer and meet the requirements for permanent residence we would at worst be able to afford a two-bed condo in the Vancouver-Granville riding (our friends over there live in that area).

It was fascinating being over there for the election.

Just about to return home from a wedding in Tuscany. Absolutely beautiful area of the world, some of the views as you drive around are sensational. We managed to come a few days earlier and did day trips to Florence and San Gimignano (small medieval town) which were both great. Stopped in Pisa on way home too which wasn’t such a nice city but the tower was cool to visit I guess.

Highlight was probably a cheese and wine tasting evening

Would recommend, definitely coming back here at some point.

Italy is gorgeous, i haven't seen much of it (Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta), but what i have seen was truly spectacular.

You might be in luck on the visa front - there's talk of a freedom of movement pact between Canada, Australia, NZ and the UK after Brexit. It'll come in too late for my wife sadly, who'll need to apply for ILR in the next three weeks and pay the ludicrous amount of money that entails.

Have been previously and already done/seen,

Empire State Building
Statue of Liberty (Which was NOT worth the strawberry floating ridiculous wait)
The Ride (Would definitely recommend checking it out)
Open Top Bus Tour (Day and Night)
Visited Macys/Bloomingdales
911 memorial


Have already booked to go to Top of the Rock one night, and got tickets to see Lion King another night this time around and planning on a trip to the Intrepid Aie & Space Museum one day.

Naturally will also be checking out the Nintendo store again.

Didn't even know about that! Will definitely have a look into that, though do worry it might be too similar to being at the top of the Empire State and Top of the Rock (Ie, just being super high up and looking at the city but from a different angle)

The boat tours that do a semicircle round the bottom of Manhattan are a nice way to spend an hour or two. Better done around tea time, so you get a daytime view on the first leg, and a nice sunset/evening view on the way back.

If you fancy a bit of culture, the Natural History Museum and Met Museum of Art are well worth a look. There's also the Central Park Zoo which is nice, but a bit small. Cute red pandas, though!

And while you're around Central Park, you could hire a boat on the lake in the middle. Surprisingly tranquil for the middle of such a busy city, and lovely views all around.

If you fancy a knees up in the evening, Drunk Shakespeare is a fantastic off-Broadway show that's exactly what it sounds like. Probably the best part of my first trip. Drinks are expensive, I suggest priming yourself before you go.

Oh, and find a Magnolia Bakery and try their Banana pudding. *Chef's kiss*

Didn't know about that Drunk Shakespeare thing, my nights may be more or less sorted but I'll see if I can get it in.
My hotel is pretty near Central Park, so will probably have a good look around there since I didn't really get around to it last time.

I'm looking at going away over the Christmas period. Tokyo and Hong Kong are both on the radar but I'm having doubts, Tokyo simply because I've been so many times and Hong Kong because of the current political climate (I know, a lot can change in 11 months). Seoul is now a possibility as I've never been to Korea. How do people rate it as a city? Is it easy to get around, tourist friendly etc etc

If you like Japan you'll probably like Korea. It's a bit smelly/dirty compared to Japan in the suburbs but not as bad as Hong Kong suburbs. The metro is cheap and simple to use and the food is awesome.

I think that's the one we went with. We took the landmark cruise, if memory serves. It basically starts level with the Empire State down the Hudson River, comes round in a semicircle and up the East River so it's level again, and does a quick whip round the Statue of Liberty on the way back.

You get some really impressive views of the skyline, which looks even better lit up at night.

From what i've seen, it has more in common with The Shard than the Empire State.

I've found in London that such attractions are all very different to one another, so it would definitely be worth a look.

Williamsburg in Brooklyn is worth a visit. A bit hipstery but a nice change from the hustle bustle of Manhattan. There is a restaurant called The Dead Rabbit and Grog which was excellent.
