Haven't been to the town itself, but on the map you're pretty close to Berchtesgaden.

It is a lovely area, and i highly recommend it.

I was in Berchtesgaden recently. We went to Salzburg (which I don't recommend at all!), so did some day trips, and one was to Konigsee. Such a beautiful place, and surprisingly not too touristy which was pleasant. If I can ever be bothered I'll post some snaps, as Obersee was pretty amazing.

Cheers @Still for the info, very much appreciated.

I'm kinda struggling with my holiday plans. I'm being incredibly idiotic and planning 2 holidays, which is perfect when you don't have much money and are saving for real life. Morocco may be a good shout for October, as the temp is a little cooler. I think I'd only really make it Marrakesh, and possibly a day trip somewhere, as I doubt I can go for too long.

I'm looking at Greece and Lisbon at the moment for September. I've always wanted to go to Greece as it looks stunning, but it's quite overwhelming, especially when flights aren't that great and only go to a couple of places. So far we are looking at Corfu, with trips to Albania and some of the small islands nearby. However, I keep seeing that Corfu is more influenced by Italy, and not so "Greek" as the other amazing looking islands further south. No idea if that's true though.

Sadly the more time I spend thinking, the more expensive the flights. At present the flight to Corfu is around 140 euros, which isn't too bad.

Going to Snowden end of the month, staying in Bewts-Y-Coed, not the most exotic destination but should be a nice few days.

Will do Snowden one day (with the best weather), not too sure what else to do, anyone been in the area and have any suggestions? If not there are plenty of other walks we can do.

I haven’t done it but there’s a Zipline in the area that’s meant to be one of the fastest in the world.

Portmeirion is worth a visit and not too far away too.

Has anyone ever been to the Mercantour National Park in the South of France?

I'm off to Nice this weekend with a mate and we plan to rent a car and spend the last 2-3 days next week visiting the park. Only been able to do light research so far and not sure what area is best to stay in and where's best to focus on for scenic driving, hiking, and perhaps some downhill mountain biking and/or white water rafting.

I haven't been to Salzburg, but i did visit Innsbruck during my trip, and it's well worth a look if you get the chance.

Can you imagine how odd that would be? You're having a nice holiday when a stranger sidles up to you and says:

Ignition: "Hi, you don't know me but I go to an obscure internet gaming forum with you son and he told me to say hi to you!"

Moggy's Mum and Stepdad: *slowly back away from the stranger smiling kindly so as not to upset them...*

Awesome thanks. I hear salzburg has this sound of music tour, not that i am bothered. All i want is to have a relaxing time and see some stunning views as well as learn a bit about bavarian culture.

I didn't think much of Salzburg. The castle was interesting enough, and there is a monastery that serves really nice beer, but other than that it was quite dull. FULL of gormless Chinese tourists just blocking small streets too which was rather irritating. Munich was cool though.

Bet there's some nice souvenir shops there though, there were some awesome ones in Innsbruck selling all sorts of neat Austrian odds and ends (see my post in latest purchases for my souvenir haul).

Leave for a month in Asia on Monday. Starting in Singapore, then heading to Hong Kong, China, South Korea, and finally Japan.

Last minute panic is setting in.

Booked flights to Corfu for 6 days in August. Hoping to just have a nice relaxing holiday for once, as usually we cram a lot in. Especially as we want to do Morocco in October which will 100 percent not be relaxing.

It's my first time to Greece, so looking forward to it. It's not quite the image of Greece I had in my head, as Corfu doesn't have all the white washed buildings, but the island hopping in the areas with Kos etc just looked a little gooseberry fool. One boat a day at 2pm kinda gooseberry fool.

Anyone been before? We're planning to go over to Albania, see some of the caves around the coast, visit the smaller islands nearby and just enjoy the sea. I don't think there is a huge amount of ancient greek history there which is a shame, but having lived in Rome I'm sure it would be nothing I haven't seen before, and I know Athens is the main place for all that.

It's Snowdon (sorry couldn't resist).

Anyway, Betws is a nice enough place, you can walk up and down the river there and go for a swim and stuff. Snowdon itself is a bit of a boring mountain, but I guess if you're not from the area it's the one to climb. If you want more of an interesting climb that involves some scrambling, i'd reccommend Tryfan. But again, not for a cassual hiker this one.

If you do go up Snowdon there is a nice greecy spoon called Pete's eats in Llanberis you can eat at before or after.

The zipline is fun yes, quite pricey. Surf snowdonia is also good. Electric mountain is interesting, but underground. There is some sort of underground trampoline thing around there too.

Port Merion as recommended earlier is another nice place, probably about 30 mins away towards Portmadog. Basically a little Italian town, created by some rich aristocrat. You could probably do port Merion and the Zipline in a day.

One last tip....the A55 on a Friday afternoon is chocker bloke full of Brummies and Scousers commuting to the Welsh coast. Leave early, or take the A5, it's a sodding nightmare in the summer.
