I'm on 30k exactly.

I've always been happy and got by with however much I was earning so I don't think it really matters where you vote

That gap between £36-42k is sort of weird isn't it? Reasonably even distribution either side of it but it's like people skip straight from £30,000ish to £40,000.

I converted my $ salary to £ but it doesn’t paint the most comparable picture given that the cost of living in NYC is significantly higher than anywhere in the UK

I ticked what I should be earning if the disaster of a company I work for actually paid me rather than being a bunch of crooks. :evil:

Just got a judgement from a tribunal for some of the money but my career is in the crapper.

In reality I'm making about £100 a week on ebay. :cry:

It does make you think that maybe the "I went to the university of life m8 oi oi lads" approach isn't so invalid after all if all that studying doesn't literally pay off in the end. However I like what I do so am prepared to stick with it, which is more than some people can say, I guess.

Was it ever invalid?

You can’t really lump all university routes into the same group. It really depends on the subject, especially if you’re focusing only on earning potential.

I'm on £10 an hour + £2 an hour "performance bonus" that I always get each month and isn't actually means tested. If I were to do my minimum hours this would be about £23k, but as I get paid for every minute I'm in the building - and I take short lunches and leave a little late each day - it ends up being the equivalent of around £26k-£27k each month. Apparently I'm due a pay rise soon, but this will be the 3rd time in a year they've said this so I'm not holding my breath.

My out goings are very low. I live with family, in a council house, so rent and bills are very reasonable. I don't own a car, and use public transport to get around. I do know how to drive (we'll, I passed my test, but it's been a while) so this is a money saving decision. I'm trying to save for a home, and have saved a decent amount, but feel I need to be on a higher wage to be able to afford a mortgage for somewhere that I would like to live - and also I feel I need to be more happy in my job if I'm going to buy as it only makes financial sense if you don't move for the first few years and I want the flexibility to be able to follow any job offer I might get.

I'm currently waiting to hear how a job interview went, so these circumstances might change soon.

I'm 27 and on £27,242 or so before tax. Living in Southampton, reasonably decent since I can afford to rent a flat by myself and have a fairly active Pokemon TCG hobby. It isn't enough to do as much as I want to do with the game, though, so I'd really like to be on 33k plus to make things happen and also start putting some savings aside.
