Downing's not a winger, he's a wide left midfielder. A winger is someone that plays exclusively in attack, on the wing. The definition's got hazy over time because Sky Sports can't tell a sweeper from a centre half but don't go breaking your own rules already!

Schmeichel wins goalkeeper. Played with a counter-attacking team that often left him entirely exposed and time and again he produced world-class saves, eventually leading United to a first European crown under Sir Alex. Nothing against any of the others, I just saw Peter as a man-mountain of a keeper, with the big red nose and never-ending barrage aimed at the outfielders, he was like a Danish Fergie between the sticks. One of the greatest United players of all time, an absolute inspiration for team-mates and fans.

Peter Schmeical.

Julio Cesar was a distant second.
