I wouldn't have thought that would be anything other than straightforward. As the only manager to have been there for every single Premier League season, as well as having won most of them, Ferguson would be the only logical choice - anyone else would be very surprising.

Fergie is far from an obvious choice and your (understandable) bias towards him is preventing you from seeing that - yes, he's won more trophies than anyone else, yes, he's managed for a remarkable amount of time and yes, in his prime he was a superb manager. But not the best manager we've seen in this league and he certainly didn't maintain that peak as long as some other managers in the same position - and he also managed a much superior team.

I must say I'm quite surprised to see Giggs' place on the team being debated!

Personally, I can't think of anyone who comes very close to him, really. Pires was excellent for a time, Ginola was capable of brilliance, but for continued, consistent world-class performance then it just has to be Ryan Giggs.

He has been a brilliant footballer at the very highest level for a decade, from flying, skilful winger to considered, playmaking midfielder.

Not only one of the best left wingers/midfielders of the Premier League, but one of its best players overall.

Dan does make a valid point though. If I were to sit down and make my own first XI I probably wouldn't choose a 4-4-2 and subsequently wouldn't pick Giggs. But let's be honest, if we start debating what formation to choose for this then we'd be here for hours and taking it far too seriously! So with a 4-4-2 formation, Giggs is the obvious choice.

I'm an Arsenal fan. If we were to pick a manager however of course it would be Fergie, Wenger would be second on the list and probably would have been in with a shout if this was done eight years ago.

Ahh, then it that case Moggy was parodying a previous post by Dan regarding Ryan Giggs. Moggy substituted "Giggs" for "Fergie" and "player" for "manager".
