GM dropping some bombs

Aftertiming. (Aftertiming posts will be reported and/or deleted.)

GM wrote:People who aftertime aren't assets to the thread. They come here to brag when they win, and won't post when they lose.

This is bad. None of these posts can help anyone else because they have already won or lost. When these are bets that have been copied from someone else, it's just as bad - because you're not willing to show that person you believe in their pick (or thank them) unless you happen to win.

When people don't aftertime, the atmosphere in the thread is far more constructive; nobody shies away from posting their bets because the thread is supportive and we win or lose together. Aftertiming gooseberry fools up the atmosphere of the thread and kills discussion.

OP updated. Thanks to GM for doing this.

GM wrote:I'd recommend going through Oddschecker even if you only ever use one bookmaker. It's far easier to find specific markets and matches on there than even the best betting sites. It'll also show you best prices if you do happen to have multiple accounts as well as each way terms, and will help you work out if your site has a specific market or not.

SkyBet
Wide range of markets on specials that others don’t have e.g. transfer betting. Other sites do have this, but Sky have the most.
Their Free Bet Club
[click me] used to be better but is still fine if you do most of your betting there.
Very fast payouts on transfer bets etc. - if Sky Sports news has it, they've likely credited your account.

Frequent freebet offers, but rarely good value unless you bet with them all the time. I got one today, for a free tenner I need to bet £50 cumulatively this week. I might hit that if several things I want to back are all best with Sky, but I think most people who post here do smaller stakes.

Boylesports
Utterly unremarkable. Nothing fantastic, no reasons to avoid either.

BetFred
Frequent in-play offers. E.g. place a bet of up to £10 in match x tonight in-play, and receive a bet of the same value for match y tomorrow.
Main smartphone app is coherent with the website. Most bookies are bad about this and make them extremely different in terms of navigation.
The best for fixed odds coupons - goals galore, anytime goalscorer and so on.

Have separate smartphone apps for specific bets. This is fine for what BetVic and BetFair do, but ‘goals galore’ does not need its own app.

BetVictor
Good prices on popular markets – football win/loss, goal betting, handicaps etc.
Decent app as well as an ‘instabet’ app with limited time enhanced prices. I’m not quite sure why this couldn’t be rolled into the standard app, but it serves a purpose.

Will use any excuse to avoid a payout. Backed Defoe to sign for any MLS club prior to Jan 31 - they decided they didn't have to pay out because he wouldn't play for the club until March. They eventually paid out, but I'm fairly sure they were told to by the betting arbitration panel. They've also said they're not paying out on Forest's next manager if the caretaker gets 10 games.

PaddyPower
Often offer extra places on each way markets – golf, horses, football outrights etc.
Will give free bets of £1-£5 for their Games/Casino section around 10 times a year. This only needs to be played through once before it can be used in their sportsbook.
Their enhanced specials tend to be quite good, but it’s always worth checking oddschecker – sometimes they can still be beaten by the best market price.
Will often refund or pay out on bets if something bizarre happens - see them paying out on Mirallas anytime yesterday, or Beltran getting robbed against Ricky Burns.

Website is good if you’re looking for popular bets (English football, outright markets etc), can be a bit of a slog otherwise.
Freebet offers roughly the same as Sky – require a very large stake to win a small freebet.
Standard prices can be quite poor.

StanJames
See Boylesports.

Ladbrokes
Dire site, made up for somewhat by Oddschecker putting selections straight into your betslip. Still a massive pain for multiples.

Coral
Current signup offer is one of the best – bet £5 to get £20 free.
Site is messy and can be glitchy, with bets not wanting to go to your betslip seemingly at random. I’ve had to abandon the site for their app just to get a bet on more than once.
Payout issues similar to Victor.

William Hill
Live streaming on some football.
Website is pretty good.
Prices tend to be above average.
Wider range of markets than most.

Bonuses very rare.
Minimum deposit £10. Every other bookie on this list allows deposits of £5 and I’ve had even smaller ones go through with BetFred.

Betfair (Sportsbook and Exchange)
Navigable site. It’s complex because of the number of markets offered but it’s very much above average.
Absurd bonuses. I’ve had offers (usually on football and horse racing) of 25-100% bonuses on profit and refunds of 50-100% on losses up to £25. Yep, 100% of losses refunded for that weekend. Madness.

Separate smartphone apps for Sportsbook and Exchange.
Their markets can be worded oddly. This isn’t really a negative, just something to watch out for. Example – their ‘wincast’ isn’t the anytime wincast that most other bookies offer, it’s a first goal one which is why the prices are so attractive. The others tend to differentiate by saying ‘first goal wincast’ etc.
5% of winnings taken as a fee on the Exchange. They’re very up front about it – this is only a negative because it can make calculating cover bets difficult, especially ones that need to be placed quickly.

I have an account with Bet365 but I don’t use it. Their freebet structure is a mess requiring bet + deposit to be played through 3 times before withdrawal, everyone else here is immediate AFAIK. They have an extremely useful horse racing video archive though and you don’t need to deposit to use it.

FWIW, I find myself using Paddy, Hills, Vic and Fair for the most part. I do use every site here though when they’re best price by a margin or they have a good offer, but I’ll usually use one of those if possible.

Pretty good idea this. I used to do this with my brothers but the blame game at times nearly turned to violence so we had to stop

Anyway my betting tip/suggestion is to go for Ronaldo and/or Benzema to score at anytime against Real Zaragoza tomorrow.
