I suppose Chris Columbus style does lend itself to cosy Christmas / winter scenes - and if you only watch them around this time of year you'll have that association. But yeah, I don't have that connection myself to those films.

Harry Potter has a Christmas scene but it's set over an entire year and so is not a Christmas movie.

Favourite Christmas films:

Die Hard
Muppet's Christmas Carol
Elf
Gremlins

I can't think of any Christmas films or TV I hate, there's probably loads I haven't seen that I would despise though.

The first two HP films have prominent Christmas sections and were released at Christmas time so I'd accept people considering them myself.

So does Goodfellas but it's not a Christmas film.

No, but I'm suggesting I can understand why people would associate them with Christmas and have watching it then as part of their traditions. Same with the LotR films, I know a few people who rewatch them around this time of year.

I just found this from Empire, from a few years ago: https://www.empireonline.com/movies/fea ... as-movies/

Never thought I'd see Brazil in a list of Christmas films, got to say.

i just don't think die hard was very good. also not really a christmassy film in that i didnt feel very festive watching it

Honorable Mention goes to Nightmare before Christmas, which scared me as a child and when I rewatched it recently all the power went off in my house

I'm of this opinion. Of course, a strong Christmas theme helps, but I'd say something like Jurassic Park or raiders of the lost ark are perfect Christmas day films.
