...but now struggle to find in affordable and/or good condition?

For me two instantly spring to mind.

Spectrum 128+2
Amiga 500

Played mine to death at the time of ownership and now deeply regret selling them on. And have done for some time. Sure emulation is a mighty tool to re-live some favourite gaming moments, but it's not the same.

Would I regular use them if I still owned them? Probably not as much as I might imagine, but I do like to retro game and I've a PC crammed with classic games from these two systems. So if I still owned them I know I'd certainly dig them out from time to time to re-live my favourite games in their original form.

(In case you're wondering why these couple of threads today we had some downtime at work and some "ex-gamers" my age and beyond begun chatting about gaming from their childhood. Lots of good natured reminiscing was had. Even got a few interested in emulation :) )

Did sort of miss my N64 and carts sometimes after I traded them in way back when, but I never want to play 50hz versions of games again if I can help it. Would collect old consoles if I had the space and money though, since I do like playing on original hardware when I can.

I sold my neo geo MVS because I was offerd a lot for it and couldn't afford new games, wish I'd held on to it but I know if I got one I wouldn't use it much, its a lot easier to just play the games on other things

I once swapped a Gameboy for a master system, no idea what the strawberry float I was thinking.

My real regret though was trying to upgrade my Atari STFM with a solderable memory chip kit. I didn't know one end of a soldering iron from the other and completely strawberry floated up the machine by essentially soldering all the pins to each other. Total mess and ended up binning it.

I don't think I've ever regretted getting rid of a console. In fact, I'm considering finally binning my Xbox 360 after all these years. I can probably count on one hand how many times I've actually played it in the last four years. The only thing that makes me think twice about it is Rock Band and all the DLC I bought for that. But on the rare occasion that I've even fired that up, it's only fun for about half an hour.

strawberry float it, I'm going to unplug and get rid of it this weekend. Finally bin those stupid, plastic guitars and DJ Hero controller as well.

I haven't played my 3DS or Vita in years either but they're small enough that it doesn't really benefit me to throw them away.

This is going to be a really, really, really sore topic. :(

To fund my GameCube purchase I traded in a mint boxed N64, 2 controllers, an expansion pack and mint boxed copies of:

1080° Snowboarding
Banjo-Kazooie
Banjo-Tooie
Diddy Kong Racing
Donkey Kong 64
F-1 World Grand Prix
F-Zero X
GoldenEye 007
ISS 64
Mario Tennis
Mischief Makers
Perfect Dark
Pokémon Stadium
Shadowman
Turok 2
World Cup ‘98
WWF Attitude
WWF No Mercy
WWF Warzone

There are no words to describe the level of regret I have.

On another note, I did trade in many GameCube games during its lifespan to fund buying other GameCube games. Fortunately I have been able to rebuy all of them and my GC collection sits at 50 strong.

I know it would be crap now, but I loved my C64 and kind of wish I had kept it. It would be an antique now, but I must have spent thousands of hours with that machine.

I don't really care about any of the other systems I have owned. I loved them all at the time, but don't really get that pang of nostalgia for them.

Everything Nintendo really. I sold my N64 for peanuts and my GameCube plus about 70 games for a couple of hundred quid (it's probably worth double that now). Maybe the Dreamcast too. :(

I regret basically every system I've ever got rid of! Selling or trading them helped in the purchase of new things of course but with hindsight I'd rather have just waited longer to get the new stuff.

Beyond a few traded GameCube games nothing really as I still own the vast majority of games and consoles I’ve bought. In fact, it’s really just Ikaruga on the GC and Tombi on the PS1 that I regret getting rid of.

I regret getting rid of my Master System II, I had quite a collection of games with it too. Not sure why I sold it on to be honest although I assume I was just short on cash and looking for stuff to sell at the time.

ZX Spectrum +2

The tape deck barely worked, but it would have been neat to have still had one.

I'm 44 and have been a gamer since I was about 10 but I honestly don't care about old systems.
As soon as I get the next gen machines my current machines will get shoved in a cupboard and likely forgotten about quickly and only used as blue ray players or maybe given away.
I've always seen gaming as a celebration of the new and don't really look back but that could also be down to my piss poor memory and me only being able to remember a few games anyway.

I regret nothing. If I got rid of it, it was because it was time to get rid.

I've never sold a system... however, my oldest brother sold our Dreamcast, PS1 and MegaDrive to one of his mates while me and my other brother were at school. Still got all of the games though so there's that.
