This month I’m looking for your top 10 games for the Game Boy Color. Original Game Boy games are not eligible for this one, just Game Boy Color games.

Image

If you need a reminder, here's a list of Game Boy Color games.

Just list your top 10 below (each counts for one vote, so ranking them isn't important).

Voting is open for a month, and will close on 1 December.

This should be interesting, as I think the Game Boy Color has the weakest line-up of games of any Nintendo console (with the exception of the Virtual Boy, of course). I look forward to the nominations.

Man, I love the GBC! I used it for quite a few years; long after the GBA arrived. I'd just bought my flat and money was tight... I hugely enjoyed playing on the GBC. Will have a think and post later.

Was the GBC a full platform in it's own right or just an extension of the GameBoy? Don't remember there being much in the way of exclusives.

Both, really, Nick. It could play all of the original Game Boy games plus the dedicated GBC titles. There were some interesting gems such as Metal Gear Solid and the immense Loony Tunes Collector: Martian Attacks! :toot: .

I think all the games I had on the GBC were exclusives. The problem I have in naming a top 10 is that I didn't actually manage to play ten different games.

That's no problem, just list as few as you’d like and they’ll all count toward the votes.

A lot of the GBC games were a bit gimmicky, but I love them for it. I've listed the two Zelda Oracle games together. I imagine they're going to storm this vote.

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
Conker's Pocket Tales
Harvest Moon GBC
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons
Metal Gear Solid
Perfect Dark
Shadowgate Classic
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six
Tomb Raider Featuring Lara Croft
Tomb Raider: Curse of the Sword

EDIT: If everyone wants to list the Zelda Oracles separately, do the same for mine, and delete Rainbow Six.

Loves us all since 2008

I only own the Zelda's and they're very good so

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

And I also played

Perfect Dark

so that can go on the list

I didn't really play many GBC games as I never really had a GBC and so the only ones I got were picked up when I got a GBA. I believe the Mario sports games are well regarded and there's a couple of Warios, perhaps MGS but I've never played them so can't rate them.

I can't remember if Pokémon Gold/Silver were GBC only.

If so, I would say those games and Link's Awakening.

Oh yeah, I'll include Pokémon Gold/Silver.
They weren't GBC only, but were colour games. Think Crystal might have been.

I never had a GBC as I wasn't really into handheld gaming back then, I occasionally used my GB classic but only very rarely.

The only GBC game I had was Warioland II as that was one of the games that ran on the GB classic (minus the colour graphics, obviously) so thats the only one I'm nominating.

GBC was my first handheld (I got it with pokemon blue) and I absolutely loved it, even though I never had a massive library for it. It made me into the handheld gamer I am today!

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons
Mario Tennis
Pokemon Gold/Silver
Pokemon Trading Card Game
Spy vs. Spy
Space Station Silicon Valley
Looney Tunes
Looney Tunes Collector: Martian Alert!
Conker's Pocket Tales

Spy vs. Spy there being my only recently played/discovered GBC game.

1) O’Leary Manager 2000
2) Looney Tunes Collector: Martian Alert!
3) David O’Leary’s Total Soccer 2000
4) Looney Tunes Collector: Martian Revenge!
5) Mario Golf
6) The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX
7) Croc
8) Metal Gear Solid
9) R-Type DX

Those O’Leary titles were superb; I played so many seasons in them, particularly Manager 2000. They have top-down, Kick-Off styled match play combined with - in Manager 2000 - simple management options. They can be super addictive! The Martian! games remain two of my favourite platformers, delivering tons of fun. I would have liked to included the tremendous Spy vs Spy, as selected by OrangeRakoon, in my list as well but, alas, I have not played the GBC version... it was fantastic on the C64, though!

If Mario Tennis doesn't make the list I'm going to kick off

I have no idea why I didn’t get that... it was very well received at launch. Mario Golf GBC is terrific, too!

I need to play Mario Golf, I'm certain I'll love it, Tennis was just way more interesting as a sport to me at the time

Pokémon gold and silver were not Gameboy color games, Crystal was though.

The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
Pokémon Crystal.

Ages and seasons should also be 2 separate games, they aren't the same as gold/silver where.its the same game with slight tweeks, they are pretty much completely different.

They came in boxes that said Game Boy Color, that's as close to being a color game as you can reasonably get

While true they work together as one larger game. I think you can make a reasonable argument either way, but it makes it more interesting imo to group them together to make more room for other games.
