I was a massive SEGA fanboy when the PS1 initially launched and didn't want one at first. I finally caved and bought one in 1997 and immediately realised I'd been missing out on some great games.

  • Ridge Racer Type 4
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Soul Blade
  • Tekken 3
  • Rage Racer
  • Driver
  • Gran Turismo
  • Rollcage
  • Point Blank
  • Wip3out

Namco were on fire back then.

My TM experience extends to about five minutes on the PS2 iteration as a downloadable classic on PS3 <_<

:x  . To be fair, I've only played the World Tour game in the series and it was at a time when a couple of mates had the game, too. We were not youngsters even then (all in our mid 20s) but we often played two-player battles and it was chaotic fun. It is a wee bit clunky and the graphics have aged badly, but it holds fond memories for me :) .

Ahah nice one, neat to hear it was a favourite among you and friends! I've never personally found the games' aesthetic appealing, even so I'm sure I'd get some goofy fun out of them in multiplayer. Funny thing is I get the impression the series was a far bigger success in the US than over here, I've certainly never known anyone who grew up with it

The first game was reasonably popular but the second one - World Tour - was very warmly received. The series seemed to lose it's way a bit after that and, as you say, Jazzem, I think they sold better in the US. I recall that a cartoon / chibi version of the game was released over there that I don't think made its way to the UK or Europe.

I liked the variety of characters and vehicles in World Tour and the battle maps were neat, too - we used to enjoy steaming around Paris and the Eiffel Tower :toot: .
