That's a marvellous collection of racing titles! I'm delighted to see that Burnout 2 made it into the top 10... and even more so that Wipeout HD earned itself a place. That really is a gem.

No problem. One of the things I enjoy about it is learning about games I have never even heard of (Splashdown 2: Rides Gone Wild, for example).

As someone mentioned, the Xbox 360 was a beast for racing games. At the time I never really thought of the N64 as a racing console (compared to its direct rival the PlayStation, for example). But looking more closely, you've got: Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart 64, F-Zero X, Snowboard Kids, Mickey's Speedway USA, Wave Race 64, Excitebike 64, Beetle Adventure Racing, Hydro Thunder, Micro Machines 64, Ridge Racer 64, Wipeout 64, Destruction Derby 64, the F1 World Grand Prix series, the Extreme G series, the Top Gear series and the Rush series :datass:

I was a little surprised Gran Turismo didn't poll better. They were critically acclaimed at the time and the nostalgia factor too.

Absolutely, dude. It's generally perceived that "the N64 has no racing gaems"... but there are a lot of great speed titles. I, too, was surprised at the lack of Gran Turismo; I'm not a fan of simulation-style racers, but that series was massively popular.

I think "was" is the key word here. Polyphony are the most glacial racing developer I've ever seen; they take so long making a game that by the time they eventually release a new version it's already outdated. Kazunori Yamauchi has stated at least once that he doesn't play other racing games. In the many years between instalments other racing brands have flourished and the more serious side of racing games has withered away. GT6 was the second worst-selling title in the series, ahead only of the PSP game. And despite all of this its Evolution who get shut down :fp:

I'd echo the thanks of jawa, SerialCeler. There's a lot of hidden effort/time that goes into lists like these, so thanks - they're fun to read through/take part in.

It's a shame how far Gran Turismo has fallen, used to be the king. Those replays in GT1. :wub:

Because it's the only one I've played 8-)

Terrible.

I lie, I played one on the N64 a few times with a kid at school who was a bit of a bully. The arena mode was pretty fun (something to do with balloons), but I've never been a fan of the series.
