Background
The Old World is dying. The continent is polluted, overpopulated, and plagued by a deadly, incurable disease. Its weary population grows desperate.

But there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon – an Island, remote and hidden, has been discovered. Teer Fradee... a land spared by the Malichor plague, a haven of life, wild and untampered by mankind. It is the promise of riches, but also represents the best hope for mankind to find a cure to the Malichor. On the hunt for the cure, explore a fresh new world as, alongside settlers, mercenaries and treasure hunters, you set foot on this remote island seeping with magic.

The world of GreedFall and its visual identity draw heavily from 17th century Europe. The architecture, costumes, weaponry, ambiance all take root in this period of history dominated by exploration, scientific discoveries, and booming culture in general.

The world of GreedFall is not entirely down-to-earth. You will explore an immense island seeping with magic. Its lands, inhabited by magic-wielding locales and fantastical creatures, hide countless mysteries and secrets awaiting to be discovered.

GreedFall is an RPG to its core, with an emphasis on freedom in both character development and how you proceed through the world.

Choose your gender, customize your appearance and select a few starting attributes, building from there to create your own playstyle. The classless progression system lets you tap various branches from an extensive skill tree and create your own skill synergies. With over a hundred skills to choose from, along with thousands of combinations of equipment, you forge your very own experience.

I was intrigued by Technomancer but never played it, so not sure what to expect from the devs. It looks interesting (sort of reminds me I should play more Elex tbh)

Snap on both counts, Orange! I wasn't really aware of this game - Spiders is a pretty small studio - but I like the storyline and, from what I have seen, the action. Oh, and yes, I want to give Elex a proper play, too :-) .

Dat BOTW framed shot on the cover.

Looks good, but I'm not in to pirates and it puts me off tbh.

This preview is neat. The developer is a small studio with a somewhat patchy track record but the footage looks cool. I spotted PlayStation button images towards the end so it's not just "high end PC" graphics.

Nice spin on a tried and tested trope. Love the outfits and what I have seen of the gameplay.

GreedFall, the latest RPG from Spiders studio, takes you on a journey to the mysterious and uncharted Island of Teer Fradee. Forge your own destiny when the game releases September 10 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. In a new Gameplay Overview Trailer, Spiders and Focus Home Interactive give you a tour of the numerous features that mark GreedFall as a core RPG with player choice at its heart.

Creating your character and picking your starting skills, attributes, and talents is just the beginning when it comes to carving your own path on Teer Fradee, whether you choose to specialize or be a jack-of-all-trades. In addition, the deep crafting system allows you to customize equipment, tailoring their look and stats to suit your playstyle.

When resorting to combat, you can approach it in your own way: subdue foes with heavy weapons, use your rapier to parry and riposte with flair, or control the battlefield using traps and magic. The optional tactical pause menu allows you to choose your next moves strategically. Your party members will follow you into battle, but keep in mind that they are people with their own hopes, goals and motives. Say or do the wrong thing and their loyalty to you could waver, or even turn entirely.

Your decisions will shape the future of the new world and the old, and so GreedFall provides you with the freedom to make them. Don the armor of an enemy faction to pose as one of their own or use your diplomatic talents to influence the powerful elite; these are just some of the opportunities you’ll be given in GreedFall.

Knew nothing of this until yesterday’s Inside Xbox. Surprised to see it’s out so soon, but it looks interesting.

Maybe merge the two?

Person from Reddit manages to get early copy so here are first impressions -

Hello all,

so as I usually do, I was able to acquire another game early, and in this case quite early, and that is Greedfall for the Playstation 4.

Here are my quick first impressions and some outlined details after some hours of gameplay.

Random thoughts

create a character is pretty good, not outstanding, but I was happy with the choices.
game is only 12.31gb installed, with a day 1 patch so far it wasn't that big but dont have the exact number
Aesthetic and UI is FANTASTIC, they seem to have some influence from Assassins Creed Odyssey in their menus and interface, and its very plesant navigating the different menus and interacting with the UI.
Voice acting is great
Visuals are great, character faces sometimes look a little off or janky, but the lighting, enviornments spell effects and creatures all look great. There is HDR support available.
Really surprised by this, but the music is fantastic. Peaceful tunes in the towns and epicness when out exploring and fighting.
In depth codex system in the menus that has all the lore you find, tutorials, creature info, places, characters, ingredients etc.

Customization

When you first start you will enter a character development screen, here you have 3 paths of skills to choose from, and the skill tree is open so you can mix and match as you please.
Warrior Path, Trap/Tools Path, Magic Path Every level up you can spend a point on the tree, mix of passives and combat skills.
Every 3 levels you can get attribute points, these are spent on stats such as Endurance, Strength, Willpower, Accuracy Etc.
Every 4 levels you get a talent point, these are spent on things such as, Charisma (cheaper prices and more dialogue options) Lockpicking, Craftsmanship (crafting) Vigor (opens up new pathways and recover health outside combat).
You can respec later with use of a resource
You can equip 2 Melee weapons at once, and a firearm. Chest, Back, Arms, Legs, Head, Accessory and Feet armor slots.
goes without saying but tons of quests and side quests, this game is massive. Ive seen and done almost nothing in scope of the entire game.
happy with the map and marker system, nothing unique but just clear and concise and easy to understand/navigate.
companion system that so far seems kinda like fallout companions. you can have recruit companions and they will follow you around and you can alter their equipment as well. they all have different focuses and strengths etc.

Gameplay

game runs really smooth, havent experienced frame drops yet.
running around the character model feels a little light, but in general not really that noticeable.
my biggest enjoyment, the tactical pause. this is implemented very similarly to dragon age inquisitions tactical pause, and will pause in the middle of combat and you can navigate small menus to access your magic spells, potions, techniques, and review the controls. this helps immensely in combat as this is not an easy game. On normal it is a challenge so the tactical pause is useful and cool to see used in a game like this.
combat controls are good and fluid, expect to have to dodge and parry alot.
some enemies you have to break armor with heavier weapons in order to damage them with lighter weapons/attacks.
magic spells ignore armor.
one control complaint is that the same button used to run (hold X on ps4) is used to initiate looting, and then square is used to take everything. just a little more awkward than I'd like.

Story

Now this is going to be short because I am not terribly far along but so far the story is very interesting. You are essentially a diplomat being sent out to explore and expand, and create new political allegiances. There are choices that affect the story.
did I say the voice acting is great so far?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that it is a core part of the gameplay that you can solve quests in different ways. For example very early on you have to pay back the cost of broken furniture in a bar, but if you chose craftsmanship early, then you can save your $$ and craft the parts and repair them instead. There will be several different ways to complete some quests, through crafting, combat, dialogue, stat checks, etc.

I know these arent the most detailed impressions, but im early on and this is a huge game. I can update later or just let me know if you want to know something a little more specific. I am really enjoying my time with the game so far and I think that this is easily going to be the best Spiders game yet.

Will this be on Game Pass at launch? I’m a bit skint this month but this does look my cup of tea.

I doubt it but only Dead Cells has been announced for September so far so there's always hope.

This does look interesting. Definitely getting a Bioware vibe. Although, I don't know much about the developer. I will look forward to seeing the reviews.

Watched the E3 trailer a few weeks ago and it did look interesting, will probably wait until a price drop until I get it.

Looks quite good, but as I just don't have the time to start yet another new open world game it's getting added to my price-drop list.
