Bravo, that was an excellent start to the new thread.

On to the topic for about the last month I haven't lifted weights just been going to kickboxing classes 2 to 3 times a week, so plan on going back tomorrow and hoping I don't have to drop the weight amount too much from the last time I was there.

Been at it for about 7 months now and absolutely love it mate. It's helped in a lot of ways, fitness obviously and it's great to learn new skills, punching, kicking, knee strikes and elbow strikes but how to actually do them properly but for me personally it's helps way more than just fitness due to some mental health issues it helps me to get put of the house during the week and not just go out when I'm going out drinking with friends.

Since I've been there the club has had to fight cards also and I've went along to both (both very entertaining) also again a good way of socialising. Also I've meet a lot of new people and honestly I've never spoke to someone at the club who hasn't been nice.

Our instructor is very good and comes from good pedigree because he's a four time world champion, intense as strawberry float at times but you never leave a class without knowing that you've actually done something.

Sounds amazing.

I've always found that when in boxing gyms too, even in the worst areas the people have always been nice and friendly. Think doing combat sports teaches you respect for others that might not otherwise have been there.

Yeah I'd say that would be a thing because it's one of the main things that is always there with class is showing respect/being respectful, always touching gloves etc

I'd honestly recommend that you try it, I was nervous as hell about it but now I love it and actually hate when I miss a class or anything.

I'd actually like to give fighting a chance but because of shifts in work I'm unable to commit to a full fight camp, sadly.

Did bench at 100KG 3x5 again. Reluctant to go heavier without a spotter so I think I'll I'm to increase the reps first. Then add a 4th set. Would be nice to do 4x8 100kg.

Treadmill running is definitely easier than actually running but having done neither for years (prefer to swim for cardio), it made me one sweaty mofo by the time I finished my 1 mile run. Looked like I had showered with my clothes on. :slol: My current goal is 10 minutes of 12.5km without slowing the speed down.

I'm really struggling with my ohp. I've had to deload to 25kg.

Has anyone ever bought fractional plates? I.e. 0.5kg per plate.

Had a great few weeks, saw loads of progress with my physique and did a massive pump session with my PT to get some photo's before my wedding. Couldn't be happier with the results and the reception has been incredible, the cut was bloody difficult at times but that made it all worth it.

The diet has gone out the window the last couple of days and I'm off on my honeymoon so I'll probably lose a bit of definition but strawberry float it, food is going to taste soooo good. Going to keep.the training up so I'm hoping for a bit of a mini bulk.

I'd recommend some isolation exercises as that helped my OHP. When you can't press anymore try going to lateral raises to really hit your delta and maybe incorporate some rear delt exercises like face pulls or rd raises. Working on your triceps might also help with the press.

I would suggest switching to Dumbbell Overhead Press instead of Barbell. I don't know how much you weigh/how long your arms are, but I imagine it's probably technique/balance rather than a strength issue.

Also add in Pull Ups, it's basically the bodyweight version of an Overhead Press and translates very well over to OHP.

I think Ob Bob was able to easily do these sorts of lifts years ago unless I'm thinking of someone else?

I know I achieved Bodyweight Bench, 1.5x Squat within 12 months and 2x Deadlift within 18 months with no history of weight training and being about 19 when they happened. If you're training for strength, they're relatively easy goals like joining the 1,000lb (454.54KG) club.

True, although my bench has never been much better at all. I could squat over 120 and deadlift ~155 so just about hit those targets at my 75kg bodyweight.

These days I'll squat ~90 and deadlift even less. That's what two slipped discs and a career will do to you!

Sciatica and 2 slipped discs here too. :cry: The absolute worst pain! L4-L5, mild disc bulge and L5-S1, left paracentral disc protrusion impinging on the sciatic nerve.

I was crippled with pain for the first 3 months of 2013 and on drugs for most of that year. It was over 5 years before I stepped back into a gym (2011 April to 2016 August).

I don't train squats at all because every time I go above 80kg I feel a dull ache which occurred in the run up to sciatica. With deadlifts I hardly do them and try to stick to Trap Bar deadlifts when I do. Much more comfortable.

I'm the same with squats, always so wary of topping 100kg since doing my lower back in years ago. Can deadlift unlimited without pain thankfully.

Talking about when you were 19 though, I found progression much easier back then. Maybe just because I was more dedicated and focussed but I feel like prior muscle tears are starting to weigh on me now. 100kg bench with a spotter recently had me extremely worried for my wrist ligaments.
