My lower back is still strawberry floating ruined, I thought some time off the gym might help. Pulled it warming up deadlifts back in about September and it's never been the same since. Often it's so bad it hurts to get out of bed.

Will need to visit a dr once the virus dies down although typically I don't think they're a great help. Have been doing pilates and stretching every day which loosens it a little but not enough. Ordered a new chair too but nothing seems to be working.

:fp:

Lower back is the worst, mines been bad since I was about 19. Training for strength has made things a million times better but bending over with heavy weights is always a risk. To be honest though I find resting to be just as bad as I just sit around with shitty posture where as a light work out can loosen things up.

I think I'm slowly strawberry floating my shoulders with my home pull up bar. I'm having to do them with bent knees such leads to me leaning back at a weird angle.

Push ups are no substitute for the mighty bench press. All my gainz are disappearing.

Outdoor running has improved massively in terms of not having crippling DOMS, probably helps that I've focused on Steady State cardio rather than full on sprinting too. I like to think I'll keep outdoor running as an on-going thing even when the gyms reopen but the iron bug has had me hooked for over a decade so who knows!

Why not both

Doing 5-8km light runs every few days, is nice to get out and about.

I usually work a 6 day week so find it a struggle doing 3 gym sessions a week so adding a 4th day or 5th for running would be tough when balancing the pesky adult responsibilities and desire for a lazy day too hah! However by the time lockdown is over it might have to be a necessary price to pay to shift any excess weight.

Your definition of a light run is definitely impressive! An 8km run would have me curled up in bed the rest of the day without the energy to even watch Netflix on my phone!

Ah by light I mean easy, they generally take me 30-50 minutes so I'm not exactly posting great times!

I've been doing those A/B home workouts from a couple of pages back, modified them a bit with what I have available, but getting better at them. With this looking like it'll go on a while I'm thinking of getting a kettlebell and/or resistance bands. Any recommendations on these (more so the bands, slightly worried of buying some naff ones with people selling them in lockdown)?

Been doing a lot more running which is nice, especially with the recent good weather. Not that fast but doing 5-7ks and done a 10k, which I think was my first one in over a year. Though my pace/overall run does seem to vary a lot, some seem pretty good adn I feel like I could go further when i finish, others seem to have me knackered after 2k

I'm struggling. For some reason it seems so much harder to lift without full gym equipment – actually my rack turned out to be unusable so I'm having to clean the bar for things like front squats, overhead press.

I did 5 sets of 10 reps for just 57.5kg front squat last night and afterwards I had to collapse onto the floor to stop myself from passing out or throwing up. I felt ill for the rest of the day and couldn't sleep for hours... from 57.5kg!

It could be because I'm doing a lot more running than usual, I'm not sure really. Either way, the lifting is not going well at the moment!

I like to think the amount of running I do is why I'm so gooseberry fool at squats. Could be bullshit, but I'm going to believe it damnit.

Today is the first day in about 6 years where I've weighed less than 80 kg. Well happy, been very slowly working towards this for a year. Started on 88kg may 6th.

Damn, pretty much exactly a year, that's crazy.

I'm really really struggling without lifting.

Kettlebell and pull ups just not giving me the same satisfaction. I even ran a 5k for strawberry floats sake.

I just did a 20km bike ride on the exercise bike in the garage in about 45 minutes with the friction (whatever it's called) set at a fairly decent level for a beginner.
Being that up to now my exercise is swimming and I'm ok for an amateur (I manage an average of 2k a day) I have no idea if that's good or not. I will be going for a walk later with my dad around some fields out the back for about an hour and hope to do another bike ride later as I'm not at work either so need the exercise.

I think this should be enough until I get back to work and swimming and I'm not trying to be an athlete just trying not to turn into Fat Bastard.

Got to say since lockdown my running fitness has increased exponentially (live right beside the woods/fields), but I'm concerned about losing upperbody, arm mass & previous gains. I've very little weights to use indoors, and apart from a pressup- don't feel I can do much.

Part of the draw of the gym for me is slinging headphones on, zoning out, punishing myself (to an extent), and coming back outside to the real world. Working out in the living room, isn't the same.

100% agree. Garden is better than inside but it's still not the same as 'going' to train. The ritual of throwing your bag down at the rack, doing mobility, warm up sets, loading the bar, it's all part of the process.

Got my squat rack set up in my rents garage now. Going to ease back in with some 5x5 on all lifts and just slowly progress. Starting very light and giving myself a full three months to regain strength lost from this layoff.

I've been gone for a while.

How's everyone's squat, bench and deadlifts coming on?
