I started this last night, I managed to do Chapters 1 and 2, and now I seem to be doing a load of side quests.

Ha! Take that, Giant Enemy Crab!

And yes, it was actually quite easy in the end

I vow to play this on weeknights only from now on.

How are people are getting on with this? I may play this tonight after Jenuall does Mario Maker to get chapter 2 finished and be where everyone else is/was.

I'm going to carry on at my own pace now. If I wait any longer, I'll start to forget how it plays.

Yeah sorry I've not had much chance to progress this - I'm still in chapter 3 at the moment!

No apologies necessary! Just the way it is. I'll still post my thoughts as I go, but spoiler them along with a chapter tag.

I'll just blab things as I go, and get told off for spoiling things.

Need to crack on with this.

I am now fighting a giant enemy turret. I don't know what it's issue is

You should get on with Chapter 4. I think you’ll like it.

Well, I got through what I thought were the tutorials and now being given given loads of menu based info in Rookie Harbour.

It's put me off a bit. I thought it might be the kind of thing I'd play for the odd half hour or so, and I do like the base mechanics.

It seems like it would appeal to a lot of people, but it's maybe not as pick up & play as I like. To me, the pacing is a bit all over the place. One minute there's some fun platforming and combat, the next I'm getting loads of text info and side quests.

Mind, I suppose it's something lots of people could get into, plus the humour is very winning.

Actually, that's a bit harsh. Think I probably need to concentrate on it a bit, rather than flicking back and forth between loads of different games

Chapter 4 done. I’m deeply impressed with this game. I went in not really knowing much about it, but having the impression it was kind of an RPG Lite. But the depth of the skill trees is nuts, and most of you will already know how many quests it throws at you. Then I noticed the “trophies” - not the regular achievements, but tasks/challenges that are tracked in-game. There are 167 of them!

The story is progressing nicely, but the very best thing about Chapter 4 is
the game’s first proper dungeon. It leads you in gently, and you think it’s going to be quite straightforward. But it doesn’t hand-hold, and it soon becomes exactly the level of challenge that I wanted. Nothing extreme, but exploration is required, and thoroughness is rewarded. Tricky end boss, though. Brilliant stuff, and I hope there are more dungeons that are as good.

I was surprised to see that the achievement for completing Chapter 4 was a “rare” one (i.e. under 10% of players have got that far).

Nothing surprising about that. With the sample size we have here it seems bang on

Ha, true. I would have hoped we would be a bit above average.

I haven't had a chance to stream it, which is why I am behind. I will try and crack on with chapters 3 and 4 asap.

Had to play my new game

Streams are ll over the place, kids have been home from school with bad colds and the schools want to have them do a corona test (the home one you don't need to send off) to show they haven't get it. It's a pain in the arse. I normally do GRcade streams in the day. Hopefully the kit will be here tomorrow and they can get back Thursday where I will do Chapter 3 and 4 :D

I am very late to the party, but I picked up CC in a recent sale and had a first crack at it yesterday. Still on the ship.

I don't know what to think of it early-days. The 'real virtual world' device is massively played out at this point, and the writing so far... Well, it's had moments, but the rest has been a bit slow. The combat I do like, although if precision aiming under pressure is required in future I'm going to stutter. The visuals are... Look, I'm not Karl, but pixel art needs to do something special to get me interested. This doesn't.

Still: early days. Most RPGs start slowly, and this feels like an RPG-action adventure hybrid. A bit like if Zelda had more numbers. More as I progress, although I'm juggling 5-6 games so don't expect that any time soon!

Chapter 5 done. Another damn fantastic dungeon. I’ve really gone to town on the exploration, finding many chests etc, and it’s immensely satisfying.

To the surprise of many, CrossCode has been treated to a native PlayStation 5 version that is available right now. Head on over to the PS Store and you'll be able to purchase the current-gen edition for £15.99/$19.99, but concrete details are very scarce at the time of writing. What fans have worked out is that the game offers a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade, but you won't be able to transfer your save between the two consoles. The download is also only 569MB, which is sort of insane when you consider the PS4 version is 3.29GB.

Since this is coming off Game Pass soon I thought I'd best crack on with it. Think I've been playing too fast, as I'm now struggling to beat the first enemy on chapter 4. Maybe a little grinding is required.

Game is alright, pretty standard for the genre.
