Is Prey a good Arkane game to give a go first? They've never really been on my radar so haven't played one before and feel I've missed out judging by people's hype for them.

It's probably the most 'open' of their games in terms of the goals involved and scope for player freedom and playing your own way. Dishonored is a bit more focused on a tighter gameplay loop, and Deathloop even more so, but they're all some brand of immersive sim and so favour freedom, choice, exploration and a game world that's based on simulated interacting systems rather than heavy scripting.

I definitely don't think it's a bad place to start (it's definitely my favourite Arkane game for reference!) but likewise I don't think you could go wrong with dipping your toes into Dishonored either

Played a couple of hours so far. Now I've gotten my head around how to best approach the gameplay I'm rather enjoying it.

It's not an easy game, though. Got the pistol now, but I've learnt to not get over confident.

Yeah you definitely need to stay on your toes, especially in the early game. There are lots of ways to tackle enemies and challenges though, you can get creative with using various tools, equipment and aspects of the environment to your advantage!

Glad you're enjoying it so far :toot:

Certainly found those turrets useful during the opening! I like that there's no real right way to play the game.

Gotten a bit further in, past the cargo loading section (which was really cool!). I was specced in a way which meant I could skip the mission that the lady there gives you to open the doors, but as I'm playing via carrying a turret with me everywhere I figured I'd do it as fabricating turretsseems very handy!

I'm streaming my playthrough and have the odd rando pop in who really like the game. It's cool as they're obviousky very familiar with the game but they keep seeing me do stuff they've not seen before - e.g. Take a turret into zero g.

Looking forward to unravelling the mystery, will likely have a big session on it today as I have the day off!

Yeah one of the joys of the game is that there is always something new to discover or learn!

I didn't achieve a huge amount on my stream last night, we met the Nightmare for the first time, but only to look at rather than take on, took down the Telepath that had taken hostages in the Arboretum green house and I got the lifts working again which makes travelling between some of the areas of the ship a bit easier!

I was basically getting distracted by recycling a lot, as well as trying to remember what stage of the game I was actually at as I had been busy exploring detours rather than progressing the main quest! I still love just how much freedom there is in the game in terms of it being surprisingly open about letting you find ways into areas long before the story actually requires you to go there. I was busy having a mooch around the Cargo Bay and Life Support when I should have been focusing on sorting gooseberry fool out in the Arboretum!

Considering how much so many modern video games like to hold players hands from beginning to end it's refreshing to get completely lost in Prey. On that alone it's a straight 10/10 from me.
