Hey, dude, we've potentially got three folk who want to ride out into the West; yourself, Milner and me. We could go ahead with this along the lines of "play it for a bit and post on what you thought of it"?

Yeah, possibly. I was hoping for some more engagement, I think the reason I finished Dark Souls was the thread and stream engagement and was hoping for the same for RDR to push me into finishing it  It's also really cool playing along with people and chatting about it. I guess the 3 of us could still do that, or we do Ocarina of Time and you can finally get out of Hyrule field?

I'm up for playing Red Dead if we wanted to do a "load it up, try it out and post what you think of it" kinda thing; I'm not necessarily gonna complete it, though (unless I really enjoy it and stick with it!).

The only issue I have is I don't want to go into it and stream it with no intention of finishing it. I guess looking for another game with more people up for playing would be best.

What're Milners thoughts?

I would still like to play through this at some point but I can see your point on this, with only 3 of us playing and Jawa likely not sticking with it it might lose momentum quite quick

I think you should have a poll, pick a few games and see what the majority would be interested in. OoT is a good shout as it’s available more widely than RDR

Now I finally have fast enough internet to stream, I'll fire it up on PS Now and feedback my progress and impressions. Not sure if I'm up to fancy screen shots and videos though. That's all a bit beyond my technical abilities.
I'll saddle up later tonight when everyone else has buggered off to bed.

Nice, more interest.

I forgot about PSnow. No excuses for those on PS4 to not play along then

Gonna give my honest opinion on this:

> Don't worry about how many people want to play it
> Whether it's two people or fifty, we can still do this!
> If folk want to play for one day or all the way through, s'all good :-)

It'd be ace, of course, if lots of people wanted to play the entire game but it's unlikely to happen with Red Dead. It can still be a fun event, though :toot: .

This reminds me that I need to get back and actually finish off the Dark Souls GRPlayde run. :fp:

ok. Didn't play for long as knackered and not particularly well at the moment but got my way through the intro and early tutorials.
To be honest, I had absolutely no recollection of the opening at all. And whilst the passing decade perhaps hasn't been overly kind to the visuals, Rockstar got the feel of this just right. It really felt like you were stepping into a classic spaghetti western with the blood red typography set against classic scenes of the great iron horse crossing the plains. You can really sense the influence of Iginio Lardani, Sergio Leoni's title designer, and know that this is going to be a true tribute to the genre, as opposed to just a setting for GTA on four legs.
Having said that, I'd forgotten that once you alight the train just how 'gamey' the intro is. Follow this path marker, go the next path marker, cos you're an idiot and wouldn't know how to cross the street to reach the saloon unaided. Having said that, the Rockstar attention to detail is still there - the drunk can be followed stumbling along the street until he finds somewhere to rest, the dust kicks up as you cross the terrain leaving hoofprints in your wake.
The first encounter at Fort Mercer brought smiles of recollection as John faces off with Bill Williamson. And I will be honest, a shiver genuinely went down my spine at the mention of Dutch. It's going to be strange playing this with the knowledge of the sequel/prequel (?), and will hopefully frame the game better as I never really understood why our protagonist was being pursued so incessantly by the 'the man'.
So I ended up at the ranch, did a few chores with Bonnie - man that shooting gallery with the rabbits just felt plain evil
Yes, so far it feels clunky and dated, which surprised me but it is amazing how the memory, specially one as ropey as mine, can play tricks on you. Despite that I'm already looking forward to playing again tomorrow., hopefully get a bit more done next time.

Wow, Yck, you're showing real enthusiasm for this. Great to seeing you riding off into your Wild West adventure already!

I was going to start this tonight, but I feel pretty gooseberry fool with flu or something, so will start tomorrow.

Put a couple more hours into this. The first thing to happen was I woke up to find Bonnie's ranch at the epicentre of an epic storm. Rain, thunder, lightening - the mighty Thor was giving it the full beans and Rockstar were sure as hell making the most of it. The trees were swaying, telegraph wires were swinging, horses were kicking off and rearing up in the mayhem, and the lovely Bonnie's shirt rippled in the wind as John opened up his heart to her and told her of his family and is desire to escape his past. Absolutely strawberry floating brilliant!
Then we went back to herding cows and all the clunkiness of the controls became apparent again. Amazingly I got the cows to pasture first time, quite a feat considering I got thrown off my mount within seconds of starting the 'have a race' horse tutorial :fp:
After that, it was a bit more story, a couple of bounty missions - the second of which kept producing seemingly endless bandits ripe for the shooting. So I filled my boots on ammo and dollars and went....to the movies! Forgotten about these little animated gems with honky tonk piano accompaniment. Well the Temperance Society put on a very nice main feature that appeared to promote shagging trees, giving drugs to children and being anally probed by the devil. Gotta love those god fearing Christians :D
And that's pretty much where I left it for the night, but not before a good half hour of killing anything that moved, which moved me along a couple of ranks in the hunt like a badass challenges.
It's slowly drawing me in though, so I can say with confidence that I'll be seeing this through to the end again. Thanks for the push, Jawa!

It sounds like you had a cool time there, Yck, and that opening to the game does sound pretty neat. You're really flying the flag for this GRplayde event; I hope to load up the game after the current Animal Crossing weekend event and I think Pedz is planning on streaming the game, too.

Yeah, I'm going to be streaming the game and I'll be streaming it to the GRcade channel on Twitch instead of my own. Due to illness, I haven't started it this week as planned. I planned to finish Galaxy and start this, but I WILL get it started soon, and I'll be playing it twice a week every week until I finish it.

Sounds great, Pedz. I look forward to following your progress. It's mighty lonely out here on the Great Plains all by my lonesome!
