Luckily, Cal seems to have buggered off more or less. Fingers crossed eh?!

(Just speaking as a fellow member here.) I think it would be better if you didn't fan the flames like this. It's not achieving anything positive. I doubt it makes you feel any better about anything, and it is frustrating for others to be reminded of ongoing forum feuds, particularly in a thread that is supposed to be about community spirit.

Agreed. I haven't mentioned anyone I hate and I'm happy to pay for them to continue to annoy me.

I'm quite thin-skinned and I tend to take things too personally, so I do understand the position of people who feel a bit outcast from the board, or feel like they have to be on the defensive. I feel like that sometimes as well. But in a thread like this we've got to put any differences we have to one side and focus on the positives, I think. It's everyone's community at the end of the day.

I've had arguments on here but I wouldn't want to see anyone go, and like you Denster I'd obviously look past all that when putting my quid or two in.

Fair enough. I took jawa's post a little personally, which may have been a case of the bigheads, and couldn't help but respond. But you're right in that it's not fair in this context.

That's my feeling, too. Sometimes we (as in the forum members generally) may well disagree with each other but, hey, that's life.

We've had a couple of disagreements in the past, Taf, but I feel that we're both big enough put it down as water under the bridge. My post wasn't specific to us personally; more an acknowledgement that I've been involved in some differences of opinion during my time as a member of GR. That's gonna happen whenever a bunch of folk hang out together for a long period of time. We dust ourselves down and get over it :-) .

Yeah, the idea of this thread was to get some positive momentum around the idea of keeping GR going. A lot of us think of GR as being our home on the web and, if we can get a few people willing to pay a pound or two each month, the funding will help GR to walk confidently into the future :toot: .

And there really is a positive story to this so far; on current votes, we have 19 people in the £2 bracket and 9 in the £1 bracket; that's £47 per month, equating to a fantastic £564 per year! Plus the further 13 people who indicate that they will make ad-hoc payments!

Tl;dr People are responding positively to this funding idea and that can only be good for GR!

If we do get a bit more financial support, we can pay for our own ads as well by the way. It's easy because we can have a fixed budget for it that just spends itself and you also get a lot of data on whether anyone actually gives a gooseberry fool about forums and what we should focus on in terms of content and search.

These sorts of gaming forums that aren't Reddit or impossible to follow or get to know anyone are becoming increasingly rare. Especially ones not absolutely peppered with ads, despite having relatively decent performance. Ironically that actually benefits us in terms of targeting an audience.

Also btw, there's a sort of unwritten rule of "leave Cal alone" since his exile from off topic. No super retrospective, trans-temporal sniping please. Same goes for anyone you don't miss, that's not really what this topic (or any topic) is for. I don't like this propensity to lament bygones in topics generally about our future, unless there's something we can demonstrably learn from old situations.

Yeah, I would probably contribute, but I'm not sure how things would work as I'd be using a different currency.

Agreed. It was a shitty, needless post that I shouldn't have made. Apologies!

It was the TLJ of all posts.

I'm up for expanding our horizons and pushing for a more ambitious strategy in terms of funding advertising rather than just funding our existence.

Everyone knows that the only way to get a message out there these days is to put it on the side of a big bus:
