Green Gecko wrote:Thanks guys. I know it's a large target than before (about double, but close to what we actually received in previous "rounds"), and I'm still committed to setting up something recurring and easy to manage.

It's funny you mention that because I was thinking of taking a pic of myself as the smiley face behind GRcade but then, I realised that might be a bit weird because no I am not available for "services" and this isn't really about me (apart from my ability to pay for stuff and worry about how the hell I cover it later) :dread:

I know you're joking, but I'm going to code up one that gets manually updated. So at least it'll look "live". :shifty:

You gave us enough information to find you on...a design and sales website.

If someone was curious and wanted a look :shifty:

Ha, I don't worry about that sort of things these days. Anyone can find me if they want! A lot of pictures are out of date but I feel like in my 30s I am finally starting to feel comfortable in my own skin.

I've had some more donations come in today, and once I've totted those up, should be able to look to the future.

As always I'm humbled and mildly astounded that anyone is willing to put forward green stuff to fund a corner of the Internet like this because so much is "freemium" these days or riddled with ads. But I can stop talking to that advertising agency that wants to promote us as "prime advertising estate to high value bidders" :dread:

That said I, err, did that for 9 months. Something I wouldn't have been able to do if there weren't other generous people in my life and a couple of customers so, it's all just swimming around really! Share the love!

I used to follow lots of littles websites for animations and stuff like that which asked for donations, in the earlier 00s, it seems like a kind of old school thing because, well, marketers realised they can make a mint by stuffing sites full of crap and just kicking their feet back. I am never going to do that.

Concerning the whole donations page and recurring thing, I am going to a space dominated by digital pros tomorrow to get this sorted out. Even if I'm actually doing it myself, it helps to be in the right environment. I'm not very good at coding at home these days (maybe when I was 15 and could stay up all night), I just get monumentally distracted because while I'm good at it it's not my favourite kind of task! Lots of trial and error and remembering and forgetting how to do things. I'm sure I can make a few simple pages in a day though. It's just not my day job anymore.

That's a whole day chargeable to GRcade .. That'll be £220 then ;)

Said it before, but GRcade is literally my home on the internet. It's BY FAR my most visited site (honourable mentions to Football365.com and xvideos.com :shifty: ), I can't imagine a world without it. To be able to come here and not be bombarded with ads and popups is just lovely. Plus, you know, all the people and that, even the annoying ones. As such, I'm more than happy to contribute to its upkeep, and really, so should everyone else if they can afford it.

Someone should host the butt hurt report form on there or make an interactive html version. And customise it for very GRcade specific issues.

I will allow it in GRcade court. We are governed by the laws of Brighton so homophobes or anyone who doesn't drink craft beer. You must have dyed your hair or had dreads at least once.

(That is despite our server being in France so don't mention Brexit either.)

Why are you giving these sites your money? There's plenty of free stuff out there!

Grcade pretty much is the internet for me. Donated.

Btw the PayPal link you put on doesn't have an option for selecting friends and family anywhere, so I hope they didn't steal some money by using it.

One guy managed to do it anyway, I think it's because I converted it to a Business account.

I think you have to do it through your PayPal account or app (and not through my link) for it to show up: https://www.paypal.com/uk/smarthelp/art ... ft-faq3352

As I can still receive gift payments even though it's a business account (like for eBay etc.)

It's only a few quid so not big deal I just don't like the idea of PayPal kinda stealing money for non-profit purposes.

With regards to the donations page/system, I have been working on getting the creaky old GRshop up and running for a couple of hours but I have run into issues with it not being configured to support SSL (it was before we switched to HTTPS) and I want it to be secure definitely if people are making payments so that will have to take priority. I will keep chipping away at it until it is done and secured to modern standards!

I really appreciate everyone's contributions and I will make this much easier moving forward, you will be able to log-in and manage your amount or cancel etc. so it's totally self-service. So if you super disagree with me about how awesome cats and geckos are you an cancel your donation ;)
