This sounds accurate. I fully expect it to release in the final two years of the PS5/XSX lifespan with an upgraded next console version released alongside the PC. It worked out for them with GTA 5 so why not do it again.

Is it though? It felt so... I don't know. Off, I suppose?

I loved GTA3 and Vice City. The GTA fatigue started to creep in after San Anderas. Then came along GTA4 where I got annoyed at people calling you and demand a date/bowling/whatever match in the middle of a mission and gave up.

Then GTA5... played a bit and definitely bloody bored of it. I far prefer RDR2.

I suppose its down to how much Rockstar try to cram in realism as much as they can. I want my fun GTA back where the cops go kamikaze on your ass and cause mayhem to the public. Even my character got so thin in RDR2 because I did not make him eat.

Realism is all well. But there have to be a limit. Bring back the wacky shite, Rockstar.

GTA5 was definitely a lot better than 4, and 5 did see the return of some of the ott bonkers stuff too.

It's worth giving GTA5 a second chance if you get the time, especially when you consider there's a rampage quest where you get to shoot hipsters.

You appear to dislike GTA5 because GTA4 and RDR2 annoyed you?

GTA5 was just as wacky as the earlier 3D GTA games and there was none of the annoying eating/"let's go bowling" stuff.

The last thing Rockstar released was the remastered trilogy.

And it was shite.

So let's see if they can improve on that.

Edit: forgot about RDR on PlayStation. Whatevs, my vague point stands.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

I actually think GTAIV is far better than people remember. And San Andreas is the worst, definitely.

Push Square has a poll running on their front page asking people if they think Rockstar will also announce this for PS4.

The remastered trilogy was not developed by Rockstar themselves. It's hardly gonna be indicative of the quality of the new game.

Anyway, I am kind of looking forward to GTA6. Not super excited for it or anything but on a technical level I find these games interesting. The scope they have and what you'll be able to do in them. I enjoyed GTA5 but admittedly it was only really on my second playthrough of it that I warmed to it - 60fps and actually going out of my way to do side missions made it a lot more fun.

My wackiness ranking: 3D universe > GTAV > GTAIV

5 was still lacking compared to the earlier games, no cheats being one of the big crimes.

They outsourced the Remastered trilogy to Grove Street Games. As publisher, it's their fault for it being shite because they did it on the cheap but it doesn't really give any indication of what their own development team going to do with GTAVI

And given GTAVI is going to have last over a decade, they're not going to be doing it on the cheap.

I'm sure GTA 6 will be extremely highly polished, and a real technical showcase, it's a flagship Rockstar game! Unfortunately, it'll almost certainly be full of their shitty restrictive mission structures, story beats that are just their favourite bits from genre movies that have inspired them, and edgy humour that got tired in the early 2000s, so even if I do pick it up, I'll stop playing about a third of the way into the campaign like I usually do because I've had enough by that point.

I didn't finish 5, and I definitely didn't go on as many mental crazy sessions as I used to on the earlier games. I wonder if it's because they were more visually encouraging to do that, where the more realistic looking 5 makes you subconsciously behave more.

Accidentally running over a cat in GTA V killed me. Absolutely heart breaking

I just played through the Definitive collection so I'm planning to replay IV very soon.

Vice City is still easily the best of the PS2 era games. Just perfect.

Good shout, Victor. I wouldn't want to be on a street hitting and shooting people in a way that is presented as realistic. This could be a tricky challenge for GTA VI and future entries.

Hated GTAV. Stop making me drive 40 strawberry floating miles to missions.

Seriously, the traversal in these games just sucks ass. I can at least give it that, it's very accurate to real life.

I do wonder if there'll be some sort of fast travel system with a subway/train network, considering how large the map is meant to be (supposedly 1.5-2x that of GTA V). Giving you the option of driving there or using that fast travel system to get closer to the destination. Wouldn't help for everything (such as when you have to deliver something or using a specific vehicle), but lessens the length of time spent on the road for those who would rather avoid it.

One thing I would like is for Rockstar to lean into the chaos of a sandbox by having exactly that kind of mode. Director Mode was fun for that reason, even if it was somewhat limited. I could just jump into it, choose to be a random NPC, activate the invincibility and explosive melee effects, then just go wild butchering entire swathes of the LSPD on Long Beach. For added hilarity activate low gravity. But more needed to be there. You were limited to the vehicles and weapons you had on your story mode character, various effects such as super speed weren't available, and to unlock animals (which are very fun to play as), you had to find special plants under a specific condition (I think fog of a night). One of the reasons I loaded the PC version up every so often was to have access to a trainer (mods), which opened up the full potential of what I picture Director Mode could be.
