I think they'll find it tough to get the positioning right between comedy and violence. As graphical fidelity improves, it can be tricky to present the fighting and crashing in non-realistic ways; they'll probably have to go for some sort of cartoon styling.

I've always found the core missions in GTA to be very challenging and often frustrating; I'd like to see a more open design where the missions aren't so rigorously structured and evolve from your own actions. A real openworld game where you define the story within a broader framework.

Sounds like True Crime

Watch Dogs Legion showed the potential for this, i think it would be amazing.

If Rockstar were to do a London, I'm sure we'd get more than what Legion gave use. I know companies like to use the core of London 'cus it's more recognisable, but there's so much more to London than just the central areas - which I'm sure Rockstar would take advantage of. Even if you are looking at an area that's 100km squared in reality, Rockstar have managed to condense Los Angeles and New York down to smaller sizes and still have them recognisable.

I think I really just want to see Hyde Park represented, honestly. At least with Rockstar's location but not really map design, that could easily become a reality.

80's or modern day. Would like them to go back and do a 3D London

PLAY | Persona 3 Reloaded [3h]
WATCH | Ted Lasso S3, HiJack S1, Red Dwarf S4, Dexter S2
RACE | Chew Valley 10k (June), GNR (Sept), Cardiff Half (Oct)

Top down, 2d with a killer main song. Something like this maybe:

More seriously, I'm not sure what would get me back into the series. An 80s setting might do it. Or maybe a city based on Hong Kong (since I'm never going to get a 'Sleeping Dogs' sequel) or Tokyo.

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

It would be particularly neat were they to do London like how LA was represented in V, with the surrounding countryside included too.

Just imagine, doing a six star tank chase along the M25!

Oh, I'd want it to go further. Imagine a representation of the entire south-east. As impossible as that might be. Have a grand old road trip from Margate to Bognor Regis, then to Watford.

But yeah. A six star tank chase along the M25 would be perfect.

I’d love a brand new city to be honest, different to what they’ve done before. Part of me thinks that they’ll bring out a new Vice City and give the fans what they want.

But another part thinks it’ll be Liberty City.. again (although I’ll still get it)

Considering there's rumours of a GTA IV remastered, I doubt they'd have the new one also be Liberty City. Then again, I'd accept IVs Liberty put into VI if they could expand it slightly to allow for some New Jersey/New York countryside.

I honestly dont know what they could add with regards to the world map. Surely an overhaul of the mecahnics is in order.

I would like to have a world map that is split into several different locations, like the recent caio perico heist update in Gta online but on a larger scale, where you can feel that you have travelled to another side of the world, like a Liberty City / London / Japan / Brazil where you would have to travel only by plane. They could set fuel limits to smaller crafts (like small boats) so that it gives you a sense that you are really travelling to another side of the world.

Never happening tbf

It'd be nice if it wasn't set in America for once (I know, gta London and that).

Maybe set a bit further back in time than Vice city, maybe in the 60s/70s.

I’m hoping for it all to be a bit Narcos: The Game - set it between North & South America, time period isn’t that important.
I’m fairly sure with Lazlo & one of the Housers leaving, the script is going to be a lot different - less of this Sprunk cringe, characters who aren’t all whiny sarcastic cynics.

London would be too flat in terms of geography and would probably end up being a bit boring in that respect. That didn't really count against Liberty City in GTA4 but I think GTA5 and RDR2 have spoiled me in terms of the types of maps I want to explore.

I'd be happy with a next-gen version of Vice City, or maybe somewhere completely different like Rio or Mexico City.

I'd like an all new (at least to GTA) setting, this is the first GTA without Dan Houser and a bunch of the OG guys at the helm so it should hopefully bring some new ideas along with it. I dont think it will leave America, spoofing American culture is such a huge part of the games DNA but a setting like Chicago or New Orleans or Philadelphia would give everything a shiny and new feeling while keeping a lot of the series trademarks around. Im assuming they will keep the multiple characters gimmick but one idea that could work is multiple time settings, like a 20s era Chicago and a modern day setting, the biggest problem with that is youre creating 2 game worlds (though setting it in the same place as RDR 2 would sidestep that) and then is it actually a compelling enough gimmick to make it work for a whole campaign. But it would make for some interesting story stuff, planting things in the 20s for your modern self to find, being able to do things in the 20s that impact the modern setting and potentially make your playthrough different depending on what you do. The heists from V but with the ability to go back in time and strawberry float with the construction of a bank vault so in modern day you know the weak spot to smash it down. Again there may not be enough there for a whole game but theres something there even if it hasn got longevity.

Then I remmeber how much money GTA online makes and I realise the setting is going to be a playground for that and if well be lucky to get a campaign at all.

New fictitious American location but set in the present and based around a real world city and state like V. Definitely not London; Watchdogs Legion nailed it and scratched that itch.

I don't want cartoony graphics - I want it to feel very current gen like a full game similar to the PS5 matrix demo.

I want a better story and more compelling characters. I've only played V and I enjoyed it, but I've played other Rockstar games, I knew GTA was meant to be 'satire' (I think Max Payne 3 did satire better) but that didn't make the misogyny and racism any less depressing or the torture any less disturbing (and unjustified with a very adolescent message). After playing LA Noire and Red Dead, I was expecting the story in V to be violent but something like the Wire or Breaking Bad, the characters are the wrong side of the law and morally comprised, possibly unlikeable but complex and with a story that has something to say. Having said that it mustn't take itself too seriously (the bits I've seen of Watchdogs 1, the protagonist does horrendous, revenge fantasy things and the game implies its somewhat morally justifiable and never acknowledges the games inherent ridiculousness - I maybe wrong I haven't seen much of that game). Allow players to go on a ramage if they wish, but have an ingame honour system that rewards nicer behaviour (RDR 2 style).

In that spirit, a political story set in fictitious DC / Maryland would be cool. It would have beautiful wooded and natural areas surrounding the cities and the cities could have a mix of prosperous (but corrupt) places and places like Baltimore (as dipicted in the wire) and other areas in decline. Or maybe Texas / Mexico as drug mules (but so long as they don't resort to awful stereotyping).
