A smaller denser open world with more to do, like Yakuza. I'm kinda tired of these huge open world games that are actually pretty sparse in terms of what there is to do in them.

Yeah, even if it was the same size as PS2 Vice City, but with more, I'd be happy.

Work on verticality and density, not breadth.

NOT TOO MUCH REALISM.

I like it to be fun. Nobody gives a gooseberry fool if you have to get a haircut, new clothes, social media links, weight watching etc.

I didn’t get on well with GTA5 because it was... boring. Give me wacky storylines, wacky characters etc.

Basically Vice City.

I guess if it's in miami and south america, the 80s would be a pretty sick setting cuz of the cocaine epidemic

I do feel open worlds are now big enough and it's just a case of making them more vibrant.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands had a vast open world. They could just use the same template and populate that with loads of variation and characters as the setting being the same doesn't matter if everything feels more alive and your actions have more consequences.

Scarface had a few scenes set in Colombia so that'd make sense

The humour is an intrinsic part of the GTA franchise and comes from the observations the Houser brothers have of US society and is also their criticism of it. However, it's not to say that Rockstar won't be modifying or maturing the things you are talking about! See this GQ interview. But I'd hate for GTA VI to leave that trademark humour or those Laslow radio talk shows out as now (or 2022) when there is mindless tribalism, GTA needs social and political satire more than ever.

Dan Houser is "thankful" he’s not releasing Grand Theft Auto 6 in the age of Trump. “It’s really unclear what we would even do with it, let alone how upset people would get with whatever we did,” says the co-founder of Rockstar Games. "Both intense liberal progression and intense conservatism are both very militant, and very angry. It is scary but it’s also strange, and yet both of them seem occasionally to veer towards the absurd. It’s hard to satirise for those reasons. Some of the stuff you see is straightforwardly beyond satire. It would be out of date within two minutes, everything is changing so fast."

This is the thing, there are now so many open worlds that have a big map or multiple quests but don't feel alive whereas GTA has always managed to do that. The gameplay from GTA: III to GTA VI has hardly evolved that much but they immersive. I haven't played Red Dead Redemption II but wonder how that has progressed the Rockstar formula.

It's not that I want to strip out all the humour (silly or sophisticated) from the next GTA, but the specific examples I pointed towards feel, well, like an angsty teen came up with them (another example would be the Tw@ internet cafés, or the Life Invader stuff from V). It's a particular blunt sarcasm, often used to attack, combined with a worldview by turns bleak and self-superior. That's the tone I don't want to engage with any more.

I’d like it to be set outside of America but I don’t think they’ll do that.

An 80s or 90s setting would be great.

Better writing. GTA V forced its tired satire into the main plot too heavily and it really harmed my enjoyment of the game, the characters had promise but quickly became mouthpieces for whatever statement a particular mission was trying to make and there was just no elegance with its application. I don't have a problem with them doing social or political commentary, but at least try to develop it beyond some inane nihilistic mumblings. Red Dead Redemption 2 was a step in the right direction, it stumbles occasionally but one of its biggest strengths for me was how earnest the storytelling felt in comparison to previous efforts from Rockstar. A change is almost necessary at this point anyway, the real world seems to be increasingly dominated by personalities that feel like they walked out of the more absurd events of a GTA game so the old shtick probably won't play as well.

I'm not sure they can get away with the rigid mission structure anymore either. By all means, have some set-piece missions and the compulsory Heat bank robbery homage, but if their design is as restrictive as it was in RDR2 then it's going to stand out even more than it does already by the time this game releases.

I don't feel strongly about the game's setting. A return to Vice City is the obvious choice and it's overdue if they never plan to extend beyond established locations from previous entries, but I don't think we'll see them leave a contemporary time period ever again. Something outside the US would be interesting though, it'd be a breath of fresh air from the New York, LA, San Francisco and 'vague Pacific Northwest region because we really liked Twin Peaks' portrayals that open world games in general are guilty of rotating through, not just Rockstar.

As long as the world is big enough that we can also take a trip to Jawa's flat. Once you get there you have the option to either glitter bomb the neighbours or join in with them and make even more noise. :datass:

The humour in GTA has always been godfucking awful, both-sides centrist infantilism. Sam Houser is a wannabe Tarrantino edgelord and the entire reason the writing in RDR2 was so lauded was that he apparently wrote very little of it.

There would also be a mission to wander around the site and pick up rubbish. With the option to club people if you see them dropping stuff.

Returning to this topic and the case of a Vice City return, if they keep the map is it was in the 3D-verse [though as I've said I don't think that likely owing to the vast difference in structure Los Santos saw going from 3D to HD], the only thing that really needs to be done is expand the mainland out more. It always felt to me that the beach-land had more density to it and a lot more going on. Compared to real-life Miami, however, that beach-land is barely a sixteenth of the mainland. For a HD Vice City, while I wouldn't expect it to be the same, having the mainland feel like a mainland would be nice.

And as I said before, get some of the wildlife preserves into the map for a bit more variety as well. And maybe a park or two with some river going through it.

Not really enjoyed them since 3 and vice city. I always feel that Saints Row does it better, more fun, actual gameplay and not an interactive movie like later GTA games or RDR2.

An over the top 80s game set in US or UK would be great. Or a 90s euro trash inspired game set in Germany would be epic.

Wish my image sig would work

An 80s Cold War-era game set in Berlin would be neat, you could have the East/West cultural divide,
Checkpoint Charlie, the Berlin Wall etc.

The Western half would be more bustling and prosperous, with decent music on the radio and better cars/weapons. The Eastern half would be more run down and oppressed, with nothing but Ladas to drive and terrible USSR clanky music.
