Too early, Burt.

Who would've thunk that 3 pints of IPA could make you feel so crap in the morning?

I think Steve has demonstrated, quite admirably in my view, he has big enough balls to keep the riff raff in line around here. I don't mind the membership bawling, I just choose not to pay too much attention over something like this. And yes - in the end, the Admins and the Mods have absolute authority here on GRcade - you may not like it, but that's how it works. Many things concerning the general business of the forum might be discussed with the membership, but some things will not. That's their prerogative. Someone has to be in charge, after all. I think just about everyone can understand that simple concept.

Right, then, now all that complete nonsense is out of the way, let's get on with other things...

I know! Eighty hasn't been on yet. I haven't posted the hilarious screen grabs from the staff room. Should keep another days work again. :D

Many things concerning the general business of the forum might be discussed with the membership, but some things will not.

Way to spectacularly miss the point that many people were making from page 3 of that thread. Things should either be in the staff room (which most people of both sides appeared to be happy with...hell lots of people, myself included, said lock the thread, nuke it and take it to the staff room for chat very early on) or by a public vote.

It shouldn't be (or appear to be, as yesterday does look like since it was left so late and comments from mods/admins/bluehats through the day) "we'll have public vote as long as they vote the right answer"

It's that illusion of choice that annoyed most people in the thread, and they called it as such from the beginning (and amusingly JNR got yelled at for it).

It's that appearance that seems to have created misgivings (again from people both sides of the vote...look at the thread).

And when's ComJam getting made a mod - he called the mess from the start and would have been best to clean it up? :P

Hero of Canton wrote:When a vote is clearly being swayed by some people putting an answer down just to make the poll closer, it makes a farce of the whole thing. It's a nice idea to think GRcade can work as a democracy, but with so many people playing the comedy card all the time, we might as well be conducting a general election by polling members of the Monster Raving Loony party.

It seemed to make sense to have a poll, but the comments said more than the votes ever could, really. Hence it was taken down. I hope everyone understands.

And for the record, bluehats don't make decisions. We're just there to provide helpful suggestions and advice, and assist with pointing out potential issues/problems.

GRcade is still young, and there are bound to be slight teething problems. Let's not start fighting with each other just yet.

Whilst I agree with the last sentiment, I simply cannot agree with the rest of what you have said. If you put an issue up for a vote you cannot then decide post facto what is or is not a permissible reason for voting one way or another when you don't like the way it is going.

I voted for Mr. Hours to become a mod, but how can he now become one given this farce? The clear impression would be that the poll was intended as a rubber stamp exercise that went badly wrong. It also exacerbates the bluehat/admin clique conspiracy theory. The whole exercise had been akin to sticking up a big sign saying "ALL forumites are equal" whilst a bluehat scribbles in "but some are more equal than others" when no one is looking.

I'm not saying the bluehat thing is wrong per se, but it is an issue that needs sorting to be honest.

And this.

Yesterdays debacle should never have happened. I don't honestly care if TNny should have posted it or not, the fact remains that he did, and the rest of you went along with it. I and others said from the off that it was a truly bad idea, but instead of taking quick and decisive act the whole thing was allowed to escalate.

Its all very well Cal saying that Steve took action - it was far too little and far, far too late. I just hope that lessons have been learned, and that the damage done to certain reputations, and to the forum in general, can be limited and moved on from.

The one thing I dont understand is that Eight hated being a mod at the end of his old GR days, so why is he so keen now? It seems a bit wierd.

The other thing is that the decision is being made by staff not mods, so its a much bigger group of people who are deciding everything, making those not involved feel even more left out. Its natural that people are gonna be narked if you are asked for their opinion and then ignored. The poll was a farce we all agree, so we can hardly say the fact it ended on 'yes' mean anything.

I'm just worried this staff issue is going to be repeated over and over again, I think thats people main concern. We are all GR after all, not just twelve to fifteen of us.

DML, do you think that me answering "yes" to "Eighthours for mod?" in both the staff room and all of these topics is really any different to me posting only in the poll topic?

It's up the mods to pay attention to those who are vocal - as they should - but ultimately bluehats like I have no proper hand in this. The mods still have the rubber stamps. Those are the facts. I can understand the manifestation of a "clique" but I think it is just as much up to you whether or not you believe that is the case. You could just call the mod team on GR a "clique", does it really make that much difference?

I don't know whether to congratulate Eighthours or not! He didn't really win or lose it seems.

Anyway, as I said before he will make a fine mod. Lets face it he couldn't do a worse job that the current mods did yesterday! (sorry guys)

Let the bitching end now. It's decided.
