What a load of mong. A few things:
(1) tnman posting the topic was an honest mistake and was not done with proper consultation with the rest of the mods or admins, nevermind founders (we don't decide anything, we just have the opportunity to suggest stuff and, for the most part, stand for the best of other previous GR vets, cue Suzzopher, Akai, sarge etc., all none of which were never mods before and none of which I can recall any major discontentments with.) He did this because I and one other founder I think (Cal?) agreed that a topic could be posted, and
nobody else, not even one mod. He was mistaken in that such considerations should have been given time for his fellow mods. This shouldn't have happened. The topic was left to go for so long because mods and Eight began posting in it so much, and there was such an overwhelming and fast response to the topic, that if it were locked, the cries of "fix!" would have been impossible to reconcile, goddamn conspirators. It was a mistake, but half didn't know whether it was a mistake or not and so ran with it, and half thought it was a mistake but where not in a position to end it. A line should have been drawn sooner.
(2) Frankly I don't think anyone should care for the poll, which was 1 point in favor to Eighthours anyway. It is way too easy to rig forum polls with alt accounts and people pissing around to make it more dramatic, initial confusion in the topic over whether or not Eight was seriously considering the mod position, etc. Garth recognised bogus accounts attempting to rig the poll. A great deal of verbal posts in the topic favored Eightours, and all of (I think) the existing mods supported him being elected, as did Garth and Steve. Those who were truly discontent with Eight had their opportunity to speak their mind and either didn't bother (count how many noes there were in the poll compared to the posts in the topic) and those that disagreed were in the minority. So, Eighthours is modded. Holy crap!
(3) Just like old GR, mods will be appointed by mods if they reckon they can do a good job. Meanwhile anyone is free to campaign, just like for Petercrisp and Parksey in the past, for anyone they think would make a great mod when mods are needed, and this will obviously be taken into consideration by mods. This is just how it always was, and if we stick with that, it's all good, right?
(4) Some of you, please stop crying wolf so much. We as a community had to migrate this place over so fast that there are inevitably going to be teething problems. Yes, some of it is a bit ad-lib. Yes, some of the rules have to be patched up as and when issues arise. Yes some things will be trialed and shot down and yes sometimes we will disagree with each other or someone will abstain or someone just won't be there to comment and so that will result in fragmented, less-than-perfect rollouts of rules/features/decisions/policies/whatever. Regardless of all of this, if anyone honestly thinks that this place is a farce, that it leaves anything to be desired compared to the old GR, that it is unfairly run and that there is some grand power mad clique behind the whole thing: let us know how you would do it better.
